    looking for an answering machine

Hi guys.. I have a CI, and clarity is a big issue for me. Hubby is a bit hard of hearing so volume is an issue for him. My question is..is there a good answering machine out there that gives clear messages and has a good volume control? Most of the ones I have tried have one but not the other...

    Don't like my new MAP!

Had my first real mapping session last Thursday and I know I have to go back and get a new one. I sat through all the beeps, and my audi asked me to tell her when they got to the point of being "too loud". Trouble is, they didn't. There were some high frequency beeps I just plain didn't like the...

Davie's law to be voted on in North Carolina

Not sure how many of you are from North Carolina, but if you are, and you are an animal lover, you might want to drop your representatives and governor an email telling them how this makes you feel. I already have done so. Maybe if enough human voices are heard, it will help unwanted animals not...

    t-coil and cell phone question?

I have never used a t-coil before. Even with my ha's I had dai connection but Cochlear does not make one. Is it normal for you not to hear your own voice? That takes me back to pre-CI when I had no control over my own volume and I don't like it.

    How long is long enough?

I work for a major retail chain and three days a week I work in an office. I have a CI, but it has only been activated since December. I am still "learning to hear" and have not tried to use a phone. I may never be able to use a land line phone and due to that, I put in an ADA request for a...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

When I was there in December, the day of my activation, my surgeon mentioned something about a weakness somewhere in my ear and possible surgery in the future with a cartilage transplant. I couldn't understand much more than that, but now, I have noticed this weird indentation behind my ear that...

    Odd sensation/feeling in Walmart entrance?

This may sound strange, as it does to me, but I am wondering if anyone else has a had a strange pulsating, beeping sensation in the entrance to Walmart where one of those new Redbox DVD rental machines are set up? I work in one and was updating the missing children's board when it happened to...

    CI processor adhesive?

Is there such a thing? Mine shifts and I am constantly readjusting it. It also tends to stick out at the bottom. If there was such a thing as double sided sticky tape, I would have fewer problems and also wouldn't have to worry about it falling off.

    Surgery Day

Well, the time has come and gone. Went in to surgery at 8 this morning and I am now home resting. I feel a lot better than I thought I would. Lucky again, I guess. No dizzies, very little nausea and more discomfort than pain. Only used one pain pill so far. The only thing that has really...

new type of hearing aid..worn 24/7

Found this in another forum..... The devices (standard ha's) can squeal with feedback and overamplify background noises like the click of a turn signal or whir of a ceiling fan. They must be removed for showering or sleeping, and their batteries die frequently. Many users, out of exasperation...

    cheaper source for PACS?

I know there has to be a cheaper source for PACS for CI's other than the homesite of the actual CI maker...do any of you have a favorite source?

    FOX network CC

Does anyone else have trouble viewing FOX channel TV programs? I do not mean the live ones, but the prerecorded shows. I have a really hard time understanding what is going on during most shows as the CC often flashes too quickly on the screen. I have emailed both the FOX network and the local...

A few personal questions about CI surgery and it's aftermath.

Oh, I know that I could ask the doctors or other people involved, but I would prefer to hear the answers from the people that actually were on the operating table, not the ones standing. I know the surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis, but I do have other questions.... How much hair...

Hearing aid not much help anymore...

While it is true I can still hear sounds, speech comprehension in my "good" ear is now at 50% or worse, while there is no comprehension in my bad ear. Both ears tested at the high end of the profound loss range and my Military ENT has put in a referral for an off base specialist to have a...

    hearing aid and glasses..annoying sound

I didn't see this in the thread, so thought I would ask. Does anyone wear glasses and a hearing aid? If so, do you get an annoying "clicking" sound when you walk and the aid is sitting a bit off kilter? This happens to me all the time and I have to constantly reposition my hearing aid to make...

    Worried and upset

I just don't know what to do. My Mom is 87 and has Alzheimer’s plus Parkinson's Disease. She and my Dad live in Minnesota and the closest family is 3 hours away. My Mom fell twice in the last week. Once, she had to have 6 stitches in her scalp and this last time it was 10 stitches in her neck...

    t-coil vs dai

If this thread has been posted before, I am sorry...I did search the topics and didn't find it. Found several links to t-coil, but none to dai. I have a Widex Inteo Pro and have the boot for accesories already since I have a mic for me "deaf" side to give me some directionality. I am looking...

    Hello from N.C.

Hi, I guess the reason I joined is to find people that understand where I am coming from. Up until I turned 50 I had "normal" hearing. Then I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease. Luckily, I have not been hit too hard with Vertigo and balance issues, but I have lost most of my hearing in...
