My Good News

Do you like your job - This is a rhetoricle question, I have news.

My job, like any other job, has its good moments and bad moments. I've been working for a bead shop here in Minneapolis since June 2002, and I've worked my butt off, I mean, REALLY! Within less than a year and a half I had received $2 worth in raises, and a whole lot more responsibility, probably more than I should have taken on. A while back, I had a lot of my duties taken away from me, and that didnt make me too happy. Their reasoning was that I was doing manager duties for non-manager pay, so they forced the manager of the dept to take care of it. (Her name is Shannon) Shannon and I got along well in the beginning, but the more time that passed, the more of her work she threw on me and the crappier she treated me. It got to a point where she'd be like, "theres nothing to do!" And I'd be saying, "fuck im so stressed out, theres so much to do!" I was initially hired to work in the BTS - Behind The Scenes - department. We process virtually everything you see on the sales floor, but I leaned towards Shannon's department more than anything. This is how she handed off all these responsibilities to me.

Anyways, my point is, the payroll manager (Shayna) was telling me how I should get credit for the things that I do, and I agreed but I didnt want to ruffle any feathers (namely Shannon's, cause shes a total bitch to everyone, even customers.) Shayna eventually tossed out the idea "assistant manager," and I looked at it as an idea, nothing that could really happen. She came up to me today and said blah blah blah, remember our convo the other day? (yes) blah blah blah "Well I'd like to offer you the opportunity to become an assistant manager, do you accept?" I balked, and it really doesnt change much (as to my job description.) With the exception that our largest department will no longer be managed by Shannon, I get the other half. :) Obviously I accepted, it also comes with a $.50 raise. :D

So here I am, almost 2 years later, 20 years old, and reaching my point - I got promoted!

Pinkster, that’s awesome news—congratulations. You got exactly what you deserve. :thumb: It’s kinda refreshing to hear somebody on this message board report something positive about their employer. Remember I told you about 2 or 3 months ago to keep your chin up because things were going to get better? Well, you can just call me Nostradamus… :P

Oh, wow Pinkster! That's great to hear! :) I am so proud of you for takin' Shannon's shyts until you get your promotion. Congrats! Keep your head high... *Winks*

Nostradamus ? Very funny! Remma, you ain't my God. *laughin'* But, it's nice to share your thoughts with Pinkster anyways. lol !

*Cheers!*

Congrats Pinkster :thumb: !!

Just don't let this promotion work its way to your head...keep up with the great efforts and even continue doing 'extra' beyond the call of duty as you have so stated... ;) Perhaps now you have something to attribute to...something attainable whereas the 'next' promotion is now in progress whether or not you are seeking it...Shannon's position...however, enjoy and celebrate THIS promotion!! Once again, congrats and wish you all the best along with much success as you fulfill the 'shoes' of being an assistant manager!!

That's great! I had almost exactly what you got. I became manager and loved it!

:applause: Good job! It proves that not all hearies are so close-minded about promoting deaf and hard of hearing workers to good positions.

Congrats to you Pinkster..... ....

Thanks you guys :)

 at Levonian, I suppose you're right! But it was a hard few months, Im just glad it paid off.

As for not letting it go to my head, it wont. My job really doesnt change much, like I said. I just get full posession of part of a department. Im not worried about getting a big head about it, Im just really really glad my hard work has paid off and I'm getting the recognition I deserve. About 6 months after I started, I jokingly said I wanted Shannon's position. Now that I've been there this long, my reasons for wanting it have changed. Her attitude is intolerable sometimes, and at some points I want her position so she wouldnt be there anymore. =/ I miss the way we'd get along really really well, and work exceptionally well together. I :dunno: what happened, she just started hating her job and we all suffer for it.

And yeah, we went to the Olive Garden! I really like that place a lot.

And PDP - its not about the cost, its about the thought! You really didnt need to say it was cheap, somethings mean more to other people than money, good food, good company. Just as well, the cheesecake factory was not all it was cracked up to be when Megladon, TinyStrawberry and I went. It cost me about 40 dollars for TinyStrawberry and I, which was less than the cost of last night. And the food wasnt THAT great. So next time, lets not try to one-up the other, cause that was fairly rude. (and I have no say in his response to what you said.)

Congrats Pinkester..... I am glad that you work so hard to get something that you really deserve.. remmy to treat your workers equally. If you don't know who I am.... we used to have lockers by to eachother at old school... and hope to see you sometimes...

:applause: Congratulations Pinkster! Not bad for 20 years old!
Im sure the first thing Pinkster as assistant manager would be requiring her employees to wear pink to work everyday! :thumb:
