Do you like your job - This is a rhetoricle question, I have news.
My job, like any other job, has its good moments and bad moments. I've been working for a bead shop here in Minneapolis since June 2002, and I've worked my butt off, I mean, REALLY! Within less than a year and a half I had received $2 worth in raises, and a whole lot more responsibility, probably more than I should have taken on. A while back, I had a lot of my duties taken away from me, and that didnt make me too happy. Their reasoning was that I was doing manager duties for non-manager pay, so they forced the manager of the dept to take care of it. (Her name is Shannon) Shannon and I got along well in the beginning, but the more time that passed, the more of her work she threw on me and the crappier she treated me. It got to a point where she'd be like, "theres nothing to do!" And I'd be saying, "fuck im so stressed out, theres so much to do!" I was initially hired to work in the BTS - Behind The Scenes - department. We process virtually everything you see on the sales floor, but I leaned towards Shannon's department more than anything. This is how she handed off all these responsibilities to me.
Anyways, my point is, the payroll manager (Shayna) was telling me how I should get credit for the things that I do, and I agreed but I didnt want to ruffle any feathers (namely Shannon's, cause shes a total bitch to everyone, even customers.) Shayna eventually tossed out the idea "assistant manager," and I looked at it as an idea, nothing that could really happen. She came up to me today and said blah blah blah, remember our convo the other day? (yes) blah blah blah "Well I'd like to offer you the opportunity to become an assistant manager, do you accept?" I balked, and it really doesnt change much (as to my job description.) With the exception that our largest department will no longer be managed by Shannon, I get the other half.
Obviously I accepted, it also comes with a $.50 raise.
So here I am, almost 2 years later, 20 years old, and reaching my point - I got promoted!
