Mars Landing Tonight

I hope this doesn’t deal a death blow for Martian exploration and space exploration in general. What if the Opportunity rover suffers the same fate? It will be just one long string of failure after failure. Where will that leave us? The shuttle is grounded, completion of the ISS is years behind schedule and billions of dollars over budget, and Mars is turning into a graveyard for expensive probes. I just hope that Congress and the American public won’t become discouraged and scrap space exploration altogether. :(

Look at the bright side Levonian... There is "Mission to Mars" ride in Disneyland... I think.

The pathetic thing is that that’s probably as close to Mars as any human will get anytime this century.

i have to agree with levonian here... I believe that having a future exploration on mars will give us future generations.. i believe it's important to explore the space.. mars is primary for now... since we're looking for life on mars (bacterica, water, ice, etc..) mars is the planet that is well-known that's similar to earth... Yes i believe another galexery there's 2nd world...

They're planning on buliding a base on moon.. so we humans can walk on mars.. then we will build a base on mars so we can explore further worlds... ahead of pluto...

So.. i believe it's important to continue the space exploration.. for our next generations.

If there is no exploration to Mars. Then there is no such Chris Columbus to be found in America. No Lewis and Clark will found in the west.

Here's good news....

The Mars Rover Spirit just sent data to JPL... Whew!

Whew is right! I feel almost like an expectant father here. I don’t think our space program can take very many more kicks in the ass. That is wonderful news. Hopefully full contact will be reestablished soon.

Europe Mars probe discovered water-ice over Mars' south pole. Water is a good indictator of life. We will see if there is more water underground along the equator. :fingersx:

Yesterday marked the 18th anniversary of the loss of the Space Shuttle Challenger and its seven astronauts. In a fitting tribute, the landing site of the Mars rover Opportunity has been named the Challenger Memorial Station.
