between right after thanksgiving and 3 weeks before.

I usually like to put a tree up during the first or second week of December. This year, I will be flying to the East to visit my family, and also my dear friend in Canada, so I have been hesistating to purchase a tree or not. Recently, my roommates downstairs suggested to share one, so I think I will get one set up this week. Trees are pretty inexpensive here in Utah, much to my surprise. 5 to 6 feet for 18$, 7 to 8 feet for 34$, etc... When I was in NJ, it was so hard finding an inexpensive tree.

With my mother and her cancer, they donated a free tree to my family in New Jersey. Same goes for my partner, a free tree was donated to his brother.

I think you can decorate for Christmas, that's fine. Just remember to get your daughter a birthday cake and birthday presents (not mixed with Christmas presents). I'm sure that you are more sensitive about your daughter than my in-laws were for my hubby (and his sister--she was a December baby, too). Their parents used to say, "Hey, you got plenty of Christmas presents, you don't need birthday presents too!" My hubby never, never had a birthday party, until we married.

One suggestion: Set aside "birthday" money for your daughter each year during the summer. Then, when all the Christmas expenses pop up you will still have enough money just for her birthday cake and presents.

When my parents were alive, my sis-in-law used to have a July "birthday" party for them, instead of their actual birthday in December.

It's very sad that your hubby never know what his OWN birthday party alike during childhood because of that "December" birthday. I'm wondering about your hubby. Do he have siblings? If yes, I find it's unfair when they receive birthday presents in different months except December.

My hubby also have December birthday, too. His family make sure that he has birthday and Xmas present separately. We do the same with him, too. I know it's expensive to have birthday and Xmas presents in December but I can't do anything because he can't help it that he born in December.

He has one sister. She was born in December also. :) They did get some birthday presents (when they were old enough to notice), but very reduced because of Christmas. They did have simple birthday cake, but just for the family, no kids' parties.

I am always working these days - so it's easier for me to get the Christmas things out and displayed right after Thanksgiving. I did mine the weekend after. I totally LOVE my tree. It's not a real fancy one and the ornaments are mostly plastic, but when it's lit up, it looks real pretty. I'm not totally fond of lights - folks call me a half-vampire. But I love Christmas lights. So colorful. :)

Anyway, weekend after Thanksgiving is a great time...and my decor stays up until the first weekend or two in January.

I don't have one since I'm living in the dorms. However, if I did get one... it would be artificial because I don't want to have to go through with the hassle of taking care of a real tree. Plus, it's really messy as the tree is brought in the home and as the tree is being cleaned out.

i has a friend tht use small artificial tree with light in his dorm room.. it is so simple.. ya can do it.. if ya wanna check out let me know.. :P

Dad is back home...and from what Mummy and Daddy-o are talking, sounds like they will pick up the tree either today or tomorrow...since they will be gone next week trying to cope with Mom's Mom...heaven help us.

Meaning we decorate the tree either tmw or Thurs nite...*shatters ornament*...oops hope it wasnt an antique.

Well I been grown up with fake chritmas tree and it is safety -- IMO I already set up my little tiny christmas tree on the middle of coffee table right after thanksgiving day. I felt shame to have tiny one in this house... I added christmas light over the window outside and little lights in basement... for my warming up party this Saturday!!!

I been touched real pine tree and it worried me lot.

A member from other American forum suggest me to create my thread at German thread to compare between American and German over that faked and real tree. I did for her at other forum. I thought it's not bad idea to share my German thread with you to compare.

I'm aks Darling:))) at German forum. I asked Admin. to help me where to find poll because I can't find. She told me that she don't have poll in her thread so I created a thread with election:

I got answer from 30 members. (Maybe more than 30 this week or next???)

"Bist Du das Echt Weihnachtsbaum dafür? (Are you for the real Christmas tree?)

Bist Du das gefälschten Weihnachtsbaum dafür? (Are you for the faked Christmas tree?)

20 of 30 is for real Christmas tree

5 of 30 is for faked Christmas tree

2 of 30 don't have tree because of Christmas holiday and don't want to put tree alone because it depress her/him because he/she live alone.

3 of 30 is only share the opinion/discussion over pros/cons between real and faked tree

Echt = real
künstliche, Unechte, gefälschten = kind of faked

Interesting post:
One of members said that they leave real tree long until May. They added Easter decorations on tree leave it until May...........

Any questions?

It's just my thought and share the difference between Europe's and America's culture. :)

I have a 9 ft Christmas tree in the living room. It is fake but looks pretty real. The lights already came with the tree so I dont have to put on the lights on the tree. :)

not having a tree this year :( just want to have a empty house this year and had no time to decorate.. also no reason to :P

I don't have a Christmas tree in my apartment since I'm in and out a lot...

but the folks has already set up the artificial tree.... we've had it since 1985-ish... Probably one of the originals.. haha... We don't buy real Christmas trees unfortunately due to my allergies... I get bronchitis on an annual basis :(
