Would you live in a mobile home?

I would move to a mobile home, pay off debts, save money to put a down payment for a luxurious home. That was what I wanted to do at first but my hubby didnt want to buy one. Oh well.

That is probably true. But, I recalled that you bought your house two or three years ago. I think that you should be happy that you have more room than living in a mobile home.

But my house went down in value since then. If we had gotten a mobile home (a triple wide one ..around 2,500 square feet), our monthly payments wouldbe low and we would have gotten the bills paid off and started saving money for a bigger house than the one we have now. We saw some very nice ones when we were looking before we bought this house. Oh well..

Shel, you just further proved it is best to wait for certain things so that you get what you really want and not have to settle for something you don't want as much and your stuck with it for the rest of your life.

I would rather live in a mobile home with lower payments for a while and save up for what I really want in a house rather than rush out and buy the first thing I can afford (which wouldn't be much), be stuck and unhappy with it for the rest of my life. It's not fun being in debt up to your eyeballs and not feeling satisfied with it.

This is part of the reason why I am living with my parents now as a single parent. I want to be able to save up for things that I know my daughter and I would enjoy and at the same time I am able to pay some bills down.

Great idea but for some of us staying with parents is not an option.

I understand not everyone has that option, and I am thankful that I do have that backing for until I am financially stable enough to move out again and know that I'm going to make it. It's not fun living paycheck to paycheck and not knowing if your going to be able to pay the bills for this week to cover rent. It's tough. I've lived it and it's extremely stressful. The stress was bad enough I ended up in the hospital with a basketful of ailments. Polynephraitis and severe UTI was just the beginning. :dizzy:

How about this?

My mother has lived with hubby and I since 9 months after we got married. For 16 years we were a family of 3,then 4, then 5. Now we five live with my mother-in-law to help her. At least we will get a very solid home with 2 car carport and 3 bay garage (huge!!) when she passes on. Totally paid off.

While I enjoyed my mobile home, I am thankful for the solid house we have now.

Better talk to a good planner on how to pass that house down. If the estate tax exemption in repealed you could owe 55% or more of the value of the house in taxes

I'm happy you were able to get your house and everything. It's great when you don't have serious family problems that makes it impossible to live together.

What's the heck is polynephraitis and UTI?

I've been there, Dixie. In my case, it caused a very severe depression for me.

I don't know what's polynephraitis but UTI is urinary tract infection.

I wouldn't mind living in a mobile home. It may look ugly on the outside, but it can look wonderful inside if you can use some creativity. :)

I am sorry about that happen. Actually, my parents bought a house in a nice town. They lost $30k of the house value. Ironically, they sold the house after 30 years, the new owner also lost $30k three years ago. What a mystery!

I wonder how difficult if someone who wants to sell his/her mobile home someday.

Many people rather own a medium or bigger house with wings (additional building). Unfortunately, many people, who bought a bigger house, admitted their mistake because it is just too big for them. Their nightmare is that they pay an accumulative tax property every year. The town property inspector checks every house and evaluates the house values every three or 10 years (I don't remember the numbers of years) because I was a house insurance inspector for a few years. Most town halls rather to eliminate the elders every few years in order to recruit young families to move in so that they pay more taxes for a dirty profit. I don't see an alternative way to make us easier life to save our money. It is kinda of scary because it reminded of King of England that stole people's money for the tax - well, it sounds silly for me to say that.

I've seen the work that big houses require. No big homes for me. I don't want to think about heating and other costs that gets incurred by maintaining such houses. I understand that the Mc Mansion behemoths may be our future slums in as little as 20 years or so.

The house was already this past June, transferred to both my mother-in-law's name and my husband's. She just switched my father-in-law's name for hubby's. Father-in-law died in June. According to her tax preparer and the tax office, there will be nothing my husband will owe since it was done this way. When she dies, we just take her death certificate and our marriage license and take her name off and add my name.

That the hard part. Mother-in-law never liked me, but we get along great now. My mother is going through beginning stages of dementia and it is rough. She makes it hard for anyone, but we are learning to deal with it. We do have our moments, but for the last 7 months, it's been a bit of an adjustment and learning experience.

I wouldn't mind a mobile home but there are too many tornadoes here for my comfort. Tornadoes and mobile homes don't mix well.

at least you can evacuate with your home together to a safer location!

That's the best way to do it. Good planner.
