    Pray for my son

He was transferred to the rehab pediatric hospital and he has been GREAT!! Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. They are working. I am going to do my very first trach change tomorrow. He will wear the trach for a long time so it's important for me to be comfortable changing...

To give or not to give?

But what if you don't have time to give them food? What if you don't have a food gift card with you? Oprah said once that when you give to someone, you have to let go the attachment to it and just know that you did the right thing, no matter what the end result is. I agree that most...

    Don't Buy Girl Scout Cookies!

Talk about reading the Girl Scout's packages... Last year I was going through a depressing time and I got 10 boxes of Girl Scout cookies from a local troop. No I did not intend to eat them all BUT I did. :giggle: Then after 3 weeks I noticed my pants did not fit AT ALL anymore and I...

To give or not to give?

I was inspired by the other post so I am creating this thread. The question is: If you saw a homeless person that was clearly emaciated, would you give them money for food? About a month ago, I was in Baltimore city on my way to Johns Hopkins to visit my son. I was about a block away from...

To Live or Not To Live?

Shel, then we would have to pay for him to be housed in jail. :dunno2: I would not interfere if it was me. The reason is because we just can't know what is and what is not supposed to happen. What if the guy on the sidewalk was supposed to die? What if I was put there to save him at that...

Does the use of baby sign delay speech development?

This thread is right up my alley. When I first started my ASL education business, this was all I did. I focused on parents with babies and toddler age kids and taught them signs that were REAL ASL. I saw many cases where people used English in conjunction with signs and had incredible results...

    ASL in public schools??

Dreamchaser: Thank you for the clarification. I see what you are saying. You are absolutely right about childen being able to learn ASL much easier than adults. Their brains are still forming many connections and it's a valuable time to expose them to ASL and Deaf culture. My girls are high...

    For Hearies Only

I'm a coda so I didn't make a choice to learn it. What I CAN say is that I am a better person because I know ASL. I think it makes me different than many people I meet and I am proud to tell people that I have a Deaf mom.

    Adding Video Comments

We currently have a forum which could be a great means of communication within our organization but only a fraction of our members use it. Someone recently pointed out to me that maybe people are feeling uncomfortable with their English and might prefer to use ASL to communicate. My question...

    Adding a Message Board?

We have our own message board and we use phpBB. So far we have 56 registered users so it's still small. I have noticed that people don't really talk much in our forum and someone recently pointed out to me that maybe people would rather just sign video comments. We are working on a way to make...

    ASL in public schools??

I am a CODA and I do help. Just not for free. I do not believe that ANY teacher should volunteer their valuable time and expertise for zero reimbursement. The school I work for contacted me and asked me to create a curriculum and adopt a program in the school that would offer ASL as a...

Using the words Hearie & Deafie

I'm just throwing my 2 cents in here... I see Pete's point and he seems to be coming from a perspective of an individual who has had bad experiences with hearing people. I also see the other points made where people feel that it's just slang and no big deal. I think if someone feels like...

    What is your dream job??

It's not all it's cracked up to be. My husband thought he wanted to be a mechanic and he went into that field for many years. Actually, he is selling his tool box now because he doesn't do that anymore. I suppose if you could just go to work and fix cars it would be cool. The problem is "shop...

    What is your dream job??

My dream job is to work with wild animals. I love elephants, lions and dolphins. I would love to photograph them or train them. Just something where I get to be with them.

What Job or Career are you in?

I never said they didn't reimburse me for my time. I make $67 per hour when I teach at Oldfields. ;) For the materials, it's ok that they didn't reimburse me for the books, I like that they belong to me and I did write them off on my taxes. Yes I still have Creative Hands. I don't really...

    HTC Mogul 6800

Yes, it does need to be beefed up with additional RAM and the third party apps are cool. You can download .CAB files to install on your phone which makes it act like the Apple IPhone. Neat. I think they are working on WM7 now. Can't wait to see it. As far as youtube videos, I will try that.
