I am looking for a better auto insurance company in Massachusetts. Some companies (internet) don't offer their service in my state which surprised me.

My old Ford Explorer 96 - my insurance company cost me 808 dollars 'annually'.

Complusory insurance -
Bodily Insury To Others: $20,000 - 40,000............premium 259
Personal Injury Protection: $8,000.......................premium 85
...injury caused by uninsured auto...: $100k - 300k..............23
Damage to Someone Else's Property: $100,000..................326

Optional Insurance -
Bodily Injury to Others: $100,000 - 300,000......................117
Medical Payments: $1,000...............................................12
Collision: $500.............................................................318
Comprehensive: $500.....................................................83
Substitute Transportation: Up to $15 a day ($450)...............13
Towing and Labor: Up to $50 for each disablement................8
25 % discount (air bag) and 20 % discount (anti-theft)

Premium total: $808 - just for my old truck?
(I thought that it would cost 746.40 because of the discounts.)

Insurance tips

A few years ago, a kid ran me off the road and totalled my car. I had full coverage on a Buick LeSabre that was built like a tank. State Farm gave me $1500 for it. I could have sold the SAME car before the accident for $3000 even though it had over 150,000 miles on it. I've heard similiar stories from other folks. One of my teachers called insurance a 'legal racket.' They take $$ for as long as they can, but give you almost nothing for claim.

My point is to reduce your insurance to the least amount that you are required by law to have. The insurance company will NOT give you enough to replace your car or truck. You didn't mention how much your deductible was. Ask how much your payment will change if you increase deductible to $1000 or more. You only pay deductible if accident is YOUR fault. I don't know your driving record, but you might think about dropping rental car and towing too.

I hope this helps.

i second that.. its not worth to have a FULL coverage.. normally insurance play with ur head.. taking ur money for worthless things.

as for my car i only pay $540 annualy. although its partally full coverage but i decline the Comprehensive because i don't think i need it.. but i keep the collision because I normally drive alot many many many miles.. and if i ever hit a deer the insurance will pay for what my car is worth

Keep in mind. "what car is worth" normally is below the national average of what car is worth.. for example a 1998 chevy caliver is worth around $3,000 to sell... but insruance might say "no.. its $1,000" so therefore it helps a tid bit.. but not much then u'll need to find a car and pay even more out of pocket

many insurance companies are trying to fool you, play with you and all they're thinking is PROFIT

by the way i forgot what insurance i'm with i'm with American Family insurance.. the last company i was with was ALLSTATE.. i believe ALLSTATE is cheaper than AMerica family insurance.. but keep in mind most insurance company will be expensive on the 1st year.. then the 2nd year u'll be paying less as known as "prefered costumer"

DeafScuba, hi, there!

Ummm, don't you mean the other way around? In your case, keep comprehensive and drop the collision?

If you have ANY assets (house, money etc) you want the most coverage you can afford. Say you hit someone and they rack up huge bills and sue you. Your insurance will only pay to the coverage limit , anything after that you are personally responsible for. Which means they can get judgements against you, go after your assests possibly even lien your paycheck. Where a minor fender bender can result in thousands of dollars in damage easy, going with the State Minimums is a bad idea.

Dropping Collision coverage can be a big saver(this is different than the above), if the car is paid for (most Lenders require collision coverage), the general rule is, if your paying 50% or more of the cars value per year, it's not worth it. Keep in mind that the Insurance Adjuster uses a Blue Book value and adjusts for mileage and condition.

My wife and I switched our car insurance from American Family (hers) and State Farm (mine) to Progressive. My motorcycle is also covered by Progressive.

Wonder...did you get more points by traffic/accident like get ticket by police? Auto insurance rate go up if you get more points.

No, I do not have a car accident so far. No speed ticket yet.

I believe that my car insurance in Massachusetts is a big rip-off. The insurance company is Commerce Insurance Company.

I am very disappointed that Progressive and State Farm do not offer one in Massachusetts. Last year, I have seen some Progressive ads on the trucks in my state. My sister has the State Farm for her mortgage and auto, but she is in Florida for her two-weeks vacation right now. (She forgot to take her cell phone with her.)

I am having a hard time to find any good insurance on the internet for a better quote before my insurance bill dues on the Feb 14th. I have to hurry up before it's too late... Oh brother...

Insurance is regulated state by state. Without any specific knowledge, it sounds like MA may be restrictive and a market they can't/won't enter.

That's why they call it a vacation :)

Go ahead and pay, then when you do find another insurance company, you can cancel your current and get a pro-rated refund. I just paid my State Farm when I switched and got a check back.

I had State Farm for two years, didn't like it because they kept raising my six months rate up and down got fed up with it, and switch to Progressive. :D

yes insurance coverages does vary state to state -- i also think they also factor in the kind of car u drive and the statistics of auto thefts in certain cities/states are factored in as well -- i read that somewhere ill have to find it at some point

Car insurance is not intended to "replace" your vehicle. It pays to you the current market value of your car.

Our car was totalled a few years ago, and the pay off by State Farm was fair.

We have State Farm for both vehicles (one commercial van, one Dodge Durango). South Carolina is a very expensive insurance state. We have full coverage on both vehicles, two drivers, for about $1,200 per year. We have the safe driver discount.

I have Nationwide

Comprehensive Actual cash value less $500 $94.50
Collision Actual cash value less $500 $267.70
Property Damage Lia. $25,000 each Occurrence $70.10
Bodily Injury Lia. $25,000 each person
$50,000 each occurrence $58.40
towing and Labor $50.00 each disablement $2.50

That's 493.20 every six months...

I have a full coverage.. and had 2 accidents in the last 2 years
