Which auto insurance company do you think is better?

This is entirely TRUE!

A few years ago, a kid ran me off the road and totalled my car. I had full coverage on a Buick LeSabre that was built like a tank. State Farm gave me $1500 for it. I could have sold the SAME car before the accident for $3000 even though it had over 150,000 miles on it. I've heard similiar stories from other folks. One of my teachers called insurance a 'legal racket.' They take $$ for as long as they can, but give you almost nothing for claim.

My point is to reduce your insurance to the least amount that you are required by law to have. The insurance company will NOT give you enough to replace your car or truck. You didn't mention how much your deductible was. Ask how much your payment will change if you increase deductible to $1000 or more. You only pay deductible if accident is YOUR fault. I don't know your driving record, but you might think about dropping rental car and towing too.

I hope this helps.

Many factors on why state farm don't give you steady rate, perhaps they found the risk that you have that lowers the outlook. Sometimes state farms have to raise or decrease based on loss experience like claim pay out, the more people claims, the rate will go up, the less people claim then rate goes down.
The serect with state farm is longnevity! First 6 years with state farms are usually very expensive to start with. BUT after 6th year you won't believe HOW CHEAP state farms are! I have been with state farms for 17 years, and they treated me like royal! Howcome? I never mess up with them, always pay them on time. Take everything serious, sure I had couple accidents and plenty of speeding tickets, even that one of my vehicle was stolen, recovered and repaired covered by state farm. My premium on my truck? cute 440 dollars a year, Maximum coverage! I checked with other insurance carrier, they all wanted at least 3x of what I am paying State farms!

The truth is, when you change the insurance carrier, you automatically will be in "New driver" risk category! So, giving up others, lose that "driving experience" discounts. That is why I said the serect to deep discount is longnevity! Even if you had insurance lapse for 30 or more days, u automatically lose that experienced driver status.

Wonder...did you get more points by traffic/accident like get ticket by police? Auto insurance rate go up if you get more points.

No, I do not have a car accident so far. No speed ticket yet.

I believe that my car insurance in Massachusetts is a big rip-off. The insurance company is Commerce Insurance Company.

I am very disappointed that Progressive and State Farm do not offer one in Massachusetts. Last year, I have seen some Progressive ads on the trucks in my state. My sister has the State Farm for her mortgage and auto, but she is in Florida for her two-weeks vacation right now. (She forgot to take her cell phone with her.)

I am having a hard time to find any good insurance on the internet for a better quote before my insurance bill dues on the Feb 14th. I have to hurry up before it's too late... Oh brother...

I am happy with AMICA so far. It is depend on how many mileages do you drive per week. Also, depend where you live in the town. If you live nearby city like Framingham, Netwon, Wellsey or Boston. The rate is awful going up.

all I can say....all insurance companies want your money, so what can you do about it? If you haven't had accident for 3 years and you're wasting money for it. I hate when the time you're paying a car loan, they require you to have a full insurance coverage. I don't like that rule...*shrugs*

My insurance is Geico. I haven't had problems with them. :)

We have had State Farm for our vehicles and house for about 20 years. No problems.

Very interesting to read those thread here which it's different from Germany...

It's impossible to share mine with you all since Webexploxer's thread to question everyone here cons/pros over Auto insurance companies...

I only post to thank you for share your interesting posts here. :thumb:

One important exception I forgot to mention is that it is NOT always good idea to go by state minimum requirement. Suppose you owns house, or property and you have 50k liablity coverage, while state maximum coverage is 100k, and if you get sued for damage like going though somebody's house and were found your at fault, you are LIABLE to pay for the loss up to 100k, but since you own property, the court CAN take your property to cover the remainder of up to $50K. For example the damage to the house is $75,000 dollars, the insurance coverage you have to cover is only $50K, and YOU CAN BE STUCK with remainder of $25K. But if you don't own anything that has valuation which can be auctioned off, then you will walk off. State liablity limits of 100k is for New York State. I don't know the rest of other state except North Carolina which have one million dollars limitation.

Also, if you still have auto loan, do NOT just go by state minimum! You are generally required to abide the creditors (Bank that lend you money for that car) policy. They generally require you to have comprehensive coverage. But, if you don't have auto loan, and the car is worth less than 4,000 dollars, drop that comprehensive coverage.

Guess what? I saved a bunch by NOT switching to GEICO! :giggle:

Actually, State Farms wants $440 a year for my pu truck, while GEICO wants whopping $1,800 a year for the same coverage!!!
Progressive is the worst! $1,100 for same coverage. I couldn't believe their quote! Glad I am sticking with State Farms! Like a good neighbor! They have been treated me very well.

I have Mercury and it's like 175.00 for 6 months full coverage and havent had an accident or moving violation ticket for 25 years living in the big city.

Same insurance company for 25 years? If this is the case, MAKES SENSE!

3 years is not long enough. Most insurance wants 10+ years before they treat you well, and give you deeeeeeeeep discount. That is because they know your in good risk, so they give you favorable deal. When switching various insurance companies, they all don't know what you had with other companies, so your considered unfavorable risk, and don't want to give you discount.

I have AMICA for two years on my 2003 blazer. I used to have Farmers Ins. group and was not happy with them because the rate is $2,150 a year. AMICA rate is only $993 a year. That is the biggest different...

10 years, without an accident? That's impossible....no one can avoid an accident for 10 years. *shrugs*

Oh yes! there is plenty people that have accident free for more than 10 years. I was one of them had been accident free for 11 years, then 2 stupid accidents in same year (Freak ones). My mom and dad, only had one accident in their 40 years!

There are two kinds of accidents that insurance companies looks at... "Chargeable accident" and "not chargeable accident". The chargeable accident means it is YOUR FAULT, Not chargeable accident means not your fault. Not chargeable accidents generally aren't counted for risk assesment.

I have been driving for over 30 years, and I never had any chargeable accidents, and never any tickets (not even for parking).

Yeah I've surrendered my driving indescretions that tend to get the cops attention.

Same here....I have had one accident in 45 years of driving. Currently my insurance company is 20th Century Insurance....
