I am being thinking that it could be an accident then Leo discovery he liked that way it is.

Think about it. Many famous stuff been happen by the accident.

Sfumato would be the term for the "smoky" background - which is made of soft and thick shades. I can see that it would be about perspectives which can affect the art with trick angles. Notice how the both sides of the background don't match in the depth of distance - left horizon seems to be more lower than the right horizon. It probably is the reason for the mystery of the smile and why Mona Lisa seems to change positions to us everytime we see her! da Vinci was smart as hell, for sure.

I also think it is still a theory that Mona Lisa is the wife of Francesco del Giocondo but a very good one nevertheless! Perhaps ol' L conjured this model out of his visions only. Some people call this painting La Gioconda now based on that theory. I kinda like Mona Lisa. hehehe.. it's possible that it could mean "My promise from God" like he thinks God promised him a beauty like this one or something... hehehe... but then I could be just reaching for straws. It's really fun to guess and discuss these things.

Dada and Surrealist artists also parodied Mona Lisa. Ever seen her with the moustache? Yep. That's also known as a real piece of art. hehehe

I also studied art history and modern art for a year in college. It is one of my favorite subjects to talk about, too. :lol:

Actually, I believe Leonardo da Vinci spent years perfecting his artwork. You can see how much he has studied the anatomy and drew some inventions.
 
Despite having admired so many artistic portraits in different art galleries, I still haven't quite absorbed the history of each famous ones in its entirity. :o

My exception to this theory is the "smile" in her eyes, too, not just the mouth.

An insincere person who "fakes" a smile will smile with the lips only. A "real" smile includes the crinkling of the eyes. Mona Lisa has that "smile" in her lips AND her eyes. (Just my opinion.)

It could be a self-portait of DaVinci. Many artists use faces of other people as a source of different faces. They may use face #1 in order to paint face #2.

Just because it looks like a woman doesn't necessarily mean that he looked like a woman. He probably used his own face in order to get the figure and shape right for a woman's picture.
