There should be a law against senile old people in regards to driving, shopping, or anything out of the house.

I was at Walmart last night. While I was walking down the aisles with my cart, this old lady was walking down this aisle in my direction but on the opposite side. However, she was pushing her cart with her big purse on her left arm. By having her purse hanging on her arm like that, it would swing left and right as she walked. By the time I was side by side with her, her swinging purse hit my cart. (We were at least 2 feet apart.) She looked at my cart, then her purse, then at me... then then yelled at me for touching her purse. She actually started bitching at me and accusing me of being a disrespectful young man who shouldn't be shopping in a place like Walmart if I can't respect the property of nice old ladies like her.

WTF!?

What do you think?

Why did you not report to the store manager? He/she will speak to that old hag that you were innocent as a deaf and mute shopper (didn't you use your voice yet?) If the store manager refuses, you may request for a police enforcers to come for your assistance....

If you see the security camera on both of you, you can show her your infamous bird. You may request a digital pix for your moment of Kokak...

Just because her purse touches my cart means I'm a thief?

I didn't get in trouble or anything, so I'm fine. If the manager did show up, I would simply point out that her purse hit my cart. Period. ;)

I would tell her to put her purse on the other arm so that her purse can hit the shelf instead the cart or person. Then she can blame the shelf or the items for geing a theif.

Apologize, then hit her, then scream at her," why are you hitting me?!" reversal psychology.

I know the feeling, I just shrugged it off and ignore her. Imagine the driving... hit you then accuse you..

Vampy, your description about old lady sounds that she has an Alzheimer’s Disease.

I´m not surprised because I know old people suffer like this.

I know what I am saying because of my hubby´s Great Aunt Marie... *sigh* My hubby & I took care of her for 4 years until she died aged 90 in 2000. (My MIL is unabled to take care of her because she already is dead - It´s our turn to take responsible for her).

We accompanied her to bank, doctors, shopping etc. She scream and judge/accuss everyone for fraud, thief, etc front of us.

One day my hubby, my both sons & I together were in Marie´s kitchen. We watched her doing with her handbag... she was about put her handbag on the kitchen table but it falls down to floor so my son want to help her and pick her handbag up for her but she screamed and accussed him as thief.

Simple ignore her and call Manager then Manager deal with her himself......

Be careful what you ask for....you may get it.

Aren't all of us getting old? It won't be long before some of us are these old folks you mentioned and "WHAM" it applies to you!

Some are real grouches and somewhat crazy upstairs and others are very nice and sweet. Getting old is not for sissies! You ought to try it sometimes... :D

I don't excuse her actions. Just consider, it may be a reaction to some slight that happened before and not having the awareness she used to have to distinquish and make good snap judgements about a situation. Heck, your body doesn't do what it used to do and it is breaking down all the time and takes forever to recover if ever. It enough to drive somebody insane!!! ;)

That's what I did. She snapped at me for "talking back".

I'm with sr171soars on this one. BLESS HER HEART! We should try to be more understanding of our elders, afterall, one day we will be in their shoes and can only hope that the youth are more understanding of us.

 As Leibling said, she could have had Alzheimer's, as my mother had dementia, and had gone through the same thing. But, my Mom was not allowed to go out alone. She used the same accusatory excuse that people were trying to steal her pocketbook, that people laughed at her, people were rude to her.

In Vampy's case, he was out shopping at Walmart, minding his own business, and had every right to be out shopping, and this woman comes along, her purse hits him, and then she accuses him of stealing her purse? Sounds like she is going through the same thing my Mom went through, and that woman should not have been out shopping alone like that.

She as well as Vampy had the right to go out and do their shopping in a local store, but, when a minor accident happens, such as this one happened to Vampy, then it should have been reported to the store manager. Vampy couldn't have possibly known what was going through her mind at that time.

But, it all worked out well for Vampy in the end. :)

Vampy described sound that a old lady is alone without accompany... It´s irresponsible to leave her alone like this... It look like that she has nobody to care of her. That´s why I suggest Vampy to ignore her judgement and call Manager then Manager will see her himself and get her stay in the office and call old lady´s children or relatives to pick her up. If she has no relatives to come to pick her up then call on ambulance to take her away to old people home because what she did is unacceptance.

Its similar with my hubby´s Great Aunt. We accompanied her to stores, bank, etc for 4 years... It´s too irresponsible to leave her alone to everywhere.

I know many old people who don´t have Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson, etc. then they can take care of themselves but some not. We show our respect on old people but if they suffer dieases then they need accompany.

That´s exactly what CODAgirl said in her post for report Manager because it´s irresponsible to leave old lady alone like this.

If it happened to me, I would stare and scoff at her then walk off. I m sure it will piss her off even more! :naughty: If she yelled at me, I act like I didn't even hear her at all. I know I'm being rude, but I'm sure it pisses her off more than it does to me.

That's strange, elderly in west coast including California, Nevada and Arizona are friendly with younger people, especially old baby boomers. Between 35% to 40% of teachers at my school are elderly (60 years old and over). I have no problem with elderly in somewhere but I guess that elderly are acting like bitch in north USA and even midwest, or east coast. I only know that many baby boomers were leaving LA in 1970's until late 1990's, then moving back to LA again. I haven't experience with domestic migration for middle class families but more elderly from north/midwest are moving in Arizona than moving from CA. I'm expected that middle class families would stop leaving state then moving back to our state again after real estate is recovering in few decade later, or soon as in 2020. Don't forget to said, nearly 40% of domestic migration loss in CA are blacks, most of them are moving back to south, that's known as called "Reserve Great Migration" but "Great Migration" are started in 1910 until 1970. "Reserve Great Migration" is starting in 1990's that where many blacks from west coast, northeast and midwest are moving back to South.

I feel sorry about got rude from elderly woman, just report to store manager then they can control with her behavior, if not then report to police, at least if Wal-Mart have own police. They can kick her out from Wal-Mart and no big deal with her. I guess that big purses must be illegal, it would help elderly woman to learn her lesson.

I m sorry you had to go through this, Vampy...sometimes when I accident hit other cart with my purse...I tend to say excuse me as polite or im sorry with smile...Ive seen few old people say excuse me or im sorry in polite...

I noticed when old people are nice and acts childish...they acted the same when they were in childhood...but when old people are rude or mean while childish...they acted like that when they were in childhood...have you all ever noticed that?

For example: I was friendly, outgoing, sweet when I was little girl...then when I become old lady,...I will act exactly what I acted when I was little girl...does this make sense?

I agree with you, Sr171Soars.

Vampy : Have you heard a famous quote " You reap what you sow " ? Respect elders ! :)

I notice that some of you did not answer Vampy's question about this.

I suggest Vampy in my early post to report store Manager to take care of old lady until one of old lady's relatives come to pick her up. If there're nobody to come to pick her up then call on ambulance and police to take her to old people home because it's irresponsible to leave her alone to public like this because it might be happen to her which it's no good.
