here's a funny thing.... when you feel pain, we have emotional attachment to it... thus we do not repeat it. Now.... for fish? they repeated it even though it elicited pain response from fish.. thus concluded that fish has no emotional attachment to "pain" and that it's merely an automatic reflex.

oh about Native Americans thing... I don't think they give thanks to creative because of pain response... it's because they were thankful to their God for food. Christians prayed before meal even if the food is completely vegetarian...

:dunno:

And who says that plants do not have consciousness as well? They respond to feelings directed at them. And how about bugs? Do they not have consciousness as well? But I agree with you...I give thanks for the food available to me, but not in the Native American way, lol.

:laugh2: I don't really pray to my food. anyway - all living things have "pain stimuli" in order to prevent itself from being damaged. that's all. When living thing sees prey, it's programmed to go after it. When living thing sees food, they're programmed to eat it. When they see females, they're programmed to mate. When a fish hook pierced fish's skin, it's programmed to flip flop to shake it off.

The fish can die from overeating. They're programmed to eat whatever it sees but lacks a function to feel "full" to stop from overeating. Thus... "fish has human-like feeling" is debunked and proven by scientists and experiments.

From the link you provided -

Just because fish has brain and nervous system doesn't mean it's advanced enough to have human-like function. It's a very simple brain with very simple function and stimuli responses.

source

This source have been implying that the fishes do have brain and think. This source said that they have memories.

Only the difference thing I see is their brain function compare to us and their reaction to the pains, but that does not mean that they are not living object.

I work with my parents who work with the Native Americans, I've learned so many things from them, and they don't said thank you to God, they are not Christians. They do tell the animals thank you for allow them to kill for surivival.

wow - positive and interesting points here... :ty: for post here... Also :ty: for explanation, Vegans and Vegetarians.

I haven't vote yet.

How bout alligator?
Meat or Fish, in your opinion, regardless of science specifics?

I ate BBQ'ed Alligator before and I have to say.. it tastes like chewy fish.

Also note! Be safe and monitor your mercury intake from seafood.

Really? My hubby's view after taste in Thailand, like chicken's meat. I refuse to try Gator or Crocs... :cold:

Interesting, each has different taste.

Gator tail is served in restaurants where I live. I haven't tried it but my grandson said it was OK. (He'll try anything.)

When I went to public school in the 50's and 60's, Friday cafeteria lunches were always fish sticks, in consideration of the Catholic kids. However, those fish sticks might not even have qualified as "fish", much less meat.

True, We ate like that at school...

The kind of fishes are still serve in canteen every Friday, where I work. I call it as "Fish Day" when we went to canteen every Friday to have our lunch.

The debate was started when my youngest son questioned me why we must eat fish on Good Friday instead of any meats.

Why can't you? Did you ask him what the taste alike?

I didn't say that I "can't" try it; I just didn't want to because I was eating something else (I believe it was seafood casserole). I might try it some other time.

My grandson said it taste "OK", and that it taste like gator. He's had it more than once, so he likes it. But it's an expensive appetizer so we don't usually order it with our meals.

I've ate a bag of fried meal worm. god...... it was GOOD and very healthy! full of proteins!

Yes, I know they are full of proteins but I would NEVER try it :barf:

I eat shrimps a lot. They have high and healthy protein...

I'm sure I have eaten a few larvae in corn meal, flour, or oatmeal without even being aware of it!:giggle:

:laugh2: true...

We visited Science museum in London at 10 years ago. We saw different foods there in museum with binocular... You can't see bugs/flees in flour, oalmeal, etc then you have to use binocular to see ... that there're plenty of little bugs and flees... :barf: They recommended us to use tupperware box to fill flours, oatmeal, etc. protect from bugs/flees go in... We used the tupperware box since we learn in Science museum.

Don't forgot eggs. I am still having a nightmare from class I took in horticular years ago, they showed us slides of pictures on those bugs, eggs and larvaes in those wheat, rye, corn, etc... I can not image how many eggs I have eaten all of my life. U can find them in candy bars at the stores or vending machines. And I even ate a cockroach at resturant once. yuck.

WHAT!!!!!!!!! :barf:

they sell the actual alligator feet at China Town.... I was horrified at the sight of it. The butcher just chop it off and put it in the big bowl for people to buy. There's a big bowl of water with live turtles and people just point at it... and the butcher will kill it. bbbbbrrrrrr :cold:

Just another opinion/factoid:
"Meat" in the strictest sense refers to muscle. A steak is a big hunk of muscle. So is a chicken thigh, breast, cutlet, etc. The white "flesh" you eat from a fist is also it's muscle. By this definition, fish=meat.

Yes, I consider fish to be in meat family because it's got muscle.

If the living being has a face, it's a living being. As a vegetarian, I don't eat meat and yes, fish is meat.
