It would be interesting to see various of responses here in regards to not having electricity or having a blackout and how we would be able to deal with it....

Since last year there was a major blackout covering several eastern states and part of Canada that effected many customers with quite a few not having any electricity for several days...and it's likely to happen again since the demand per power grids (an area of supply/customers) has really peaked the last few years and the upgrading of this system is sorely needed to meet the huge demands when new homes, buildings are being put up crowding the capacity and ability to consume electricity effectively....

I voted "Yes, it would bother me some" because of several reasons. TTY battery charged up need to be plugged in several times a week; cellulars same reason; computer, of course; and few others. It would make me feel isolated with my immediate family.

yeah it will be bothered me some ways.. for example my food will become no good, can't watch t.v. can't do anything that use power..

and it can be threaten to security system...

if it ever happen and will be black out for a week or more.. WELCOMe to 1800's and use candle, etc..

I voted yes I wud go nuts without a computer :squint: at least if had electricity or blackout I wud sleep more longer

Yeah, it'd bother me some. I like to read with lights on as well have the computer on to chat with a cutie :)

I suppose I won't mind when the power goes off when it is at the time everyone in the Northern Hempishere is asleep

:D

I Vote "Yes" because, I do not like when the Food in the Refrigerator go bad cuz of no power for Hours Like it happened to me Once and Made me throw away some of the Foods and Kept the other Foods in Cooler. And I do not want Kids knocking over Candles, There is One in every Room like Bathroom, Kitchen and Living Room. Accident do happen. and if it is humid out side and no Air just Hot Air that would be bad for the Children. (No Air Con.) or (Fans)

*Imagining all the cheap feelies copped in such a situation* :laugh2:

I got trapped in the city when we had our 48-hr blackout last summer  Sucked.

Given my background, I wouldn't mind it but if I was in a big city, I'd go into the nearest wilderness area and wait it out, getting dinner with a cross-bow, etc. Problem is the city property; who'd watch it? Crimes of all sorts happen in a situation like this, especially if it was prolonged....

I use common sense.. I have back up coolers where the meat storage and freeze it temporary.. Did once happend from Blackout probably on Sept or October, Cannot remmy when happend whole thing on eastern coast.. (chuckles) Lot of neighbours were freaking out.. I was laughed them.. cuz they cannot live without electric.. why can't they learn use common sense "back up thingy". We did survouir using BBQ to cook our the dinner.. and have nice ice cream for snack.. In since few days, we are using BBQ (chuckles) Espically my hubby was late for work but not bother at all, out there only cleaning the floor and prepare for next assembly line coming up.. Everything seems okay.. as survouir.. LOL
Think.. Think....back of 1800 or as Camping's way.. Why don't you do it same thing!

When we had our blackout (massive: all of the province + more) people all got stuck in the subways and elevators and everything. It was rush hour and guys ran out of gas all over the place tryin to reach home: there was no gas to fill because you need electricity to pump up. The traffic lights went out and people got out of their cars and had to direct at intersections.

And it was like the damn hottest day of the whole year.

I got 2 days off work (couldn't do anything, less GET there). Out in suburbs it came on within 12 hrs but those of us in the city waited up to two days for electricity. I had to send a friend to come and get me. Nothing open, no restaurants, nothing. When Tim Horton's opened up the line went out the door, heh! Conklin was set up at the CNE but they couldn't open; no juice to run the rides on and even afterward, we had to conserve.

But people had tons of fun. You wouldn't believe it. Stayed up all night drinking rum & coke with work buddies, hell you're stuck there - make the best of it! And we had TONS to eat because everybody came outside with all their ice cream and pate and crap: because if you didn't eat it NOW it was going to go over. We all sat up late by candlelight and I bet anytime now in Ontario, there's going to be a major baby boom (since it's been 9 months since the blackout) :naughty: !

The scariest part was the first half-hour: dead air on the TV and no phones worked, none - TTY, phone, cellulars. You had this idea that aliens had landed or something freaky like that - until we finally got the word on what happened.

Voted for the first one.. Not really it does not matter to me BUUTTT

Last year was the worst one for me because I just gave birth to my son. He was less than one month old. His sleep hours were totally off for me. I had to stay awake at night checking on my son to see if he needs me or not. According to the light out which I completely rely on the baby cry signlar. UGH! I was at a loss without the cry signlar for one night. Till it turned on about 2 am but I didn't know where the black box was. We just moved in the same month as my son was born. YEAH ME DUH I should have checked the black box when i moved in.

The other things are nothing to bother me...

if there was no power for much longer than just 2-3 hours i would be going berserk!!!! going  but hell if the partner/significant other is home TOO then u can make it all romantic and make love all nite (or day if its daytime)! haha

We used to have a lot of blackouts in my neighborhood during the summer because of a faulty transformer that the city was too cheap to fix. So I went and bought a generator. Then they fixed the transformer—grrr. The generator has come in handy for other things, though. And it’s nice to know that if anything does ever happen again, that I’ll be ready.

A monkey was climbing on the power line cause a blackout during the summer, I think the monkey got confused between a tree and a power line.... :smoking:

*singing* Kentucky Fried Monkey, we do it right…no other fried monkey tastes so right…

Oh, I remember last August's blackout. My goodness, we were without electricity for close to 12 hours. Thank GOD we got our air back - it was a scorching summer day when it happened and there was pretty much NO air. I couldn't sleep, couldn't do a darn thing!!! Eeeeeek.

Makes us wonder just what else we take for granted, eh? We're all a bunch of spoiled brats...gotta have our electricity! Indoor plumbing, etc. Hmmmm. :) They had it rough in the old days.

At least, in my house, we'll never run out of candles!
