How do you handle those "deaf" ppl who try to sell those ASL cards?

Did you really? Sometime I do wonder if people really don't like deaf people. I wonder because how I was treated over the years. I had more of a medical view of deafness at the time too, so I didn't think about audism or anything like that. I was quite friendly and accepted anything people say about deaf people.

Me thinks you misunderstood. I read that as a karma example.
 
But that hardly ever happen.. and when it does, they just get a cochlear implant and go back to their usual business (sometimes they are worst than ever).

Oh my! I never thought about someone "faking" they were deaf. I always had donated a few dollars, without taking a card. Next time I will sign to the person also.

Whew....I'm glad you got it as intended..didn't need to start something else today!:lol: Never thought of a deafie as inferior to me as a hearie..in fact always kind thought they were smarter as most knew more than one language fluently!

This is another example of deaf beggar's wares from long ago. No alphabet, just a sewing kit.

I went to college with a woman that was HOH and I ran into her while I waiting in line for some reason, and that woman was trying to sell the card saying she was a deaf mute . She saw me and got really uptight as thought I was going start talking to her. I knew she could talk as we have spoken to one another. I did not say anything ,but she was really untight about me being there.
I ran into another person in Ca. trying to sell ASL cards. I was shopping with my boyfriend and he was a verbal fast, he was was trying to not talk for awhile and he carrried a notebook and wrote down every thing. The both of us where checking out some food on a shelve and a guy tapped us our backs and when we turned around he saw me wearing a body HA and my boyfriend with his notebook , the guy got really embarrass and just walked away and did not try to sell us a card! This was the only time someone try to sell me a card.
 
Something like this happen when I was at my girlfriend house, but it was a
'blind' man with and another guy. The two men came to the house ,the 'blind 'man was being helped by his buddy. They where trying to sell something to help the 'blind' mam. My girl friend's mother looked at us and we all thought something was odd about the 2 guys.and said 'no thank you'
and closed the door. All 3 of us ran to a window and watch both men run back the car , the 'blind' man was running without any help from his buddy and got in the car with out any trouble.
 
This happened to me while I was in Greece. In Mykonos to be exact. Some deaf guy came up to our table and left a deaf card with a few objects (flashlight, pencil sharpener, etc). I started signing "Do you know ASL?". He actually knew some! We talked back and forth. He told me that his wife does the same thing in different areas and they make good money out of doing this. It was a bit difficult to understand him, but I don't know if it is because I am not fluent in ASL or he was mixing ASL with another sign language. I dunno what they use in Greece.

Anyway, I thought that was pretty awesome!

I'm an equal opportunity hate kinda gal...I don't hate or dislike ppl based on race, religion,deafness, disability etc...If I don't like someone it's because they're an idiot or mean or something like that not because they are different from me. Wow, that's one I'd never heard of! Actually went to elementary and jr high with a blind girl...2cnd day of jr high we all are asking her for directions!:lol: She had every place that we ever went mapped out and down pat long before us seeing morons did! Now that I think about it I don't remember her ever having a dog or a cane...I wonder how she did it?:hmm:

Ask Souggy. He does that. I prefer a cane as I hate getting run over.

Well if I remember correctly..Cherie was totally blind. She never wore any kind of sunglasses so I could see her eyes and she looked almost like she didn't have eyeballs, they were very sunken into her head and never moved to focus on anything. This was back in the 70's and 80's and then I ran into her again in the 90's. She always used a braille typewriter and I think she had a part time aide in jr high to keep up with the note taking. But I never saw her with her aide once she left the classroom. Honestly I don't think any of her friends including me ever asked what she could see, if anything...didn't care, she was doing everything that we did and we all secretly wished that we could learn braille!:cool: We thought it would make passing notes in class much safer and easier!:giggle:

I helped a blind woman once when the bus driver let her off at the wrong bus stop. The poor woman was crying for someone to help her . I helped her find the right street and asked if she wanted me walk home with her and she did not want my help. She counts her steps to find her way home. I wa really impress as I get lost so easy and I can see!
