I'm pretty much old enough now to drive. But I'm studying for it. i haven't took the written part of the test. But I've just started studying. My dad had been teasing me on how he had a old car, which was my grandpa's car and I would drive it. I didn't want to because its such an old car. It's a minivan. I'm not sure what kind it is. I just want to get a small car. Not too fancy though. I'm not like one of those spoiled kids on mtv that wants a BMW or a lexus. And plus with everything in the world today being so expensive, I just rather buy a small car from used cars or something. I don't wanna have my parents to buy me expensive stuff such as My implant, Hearing aids, my phone, clothes, and I want to be able to do something for them too. But I can't think of one to show them how i appreciate them.

but I'm definatly scared of driving now...My dad wants to take me to my school and drive for a little bit. Just for practice. I don't have my temps yet. But I'm hoping i can be a good driver.

haha Thanks for that offer.

I'm hoping that i'll be a better driver than Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan..have you seen their driving lately?? Good lord, i bet they have no better sense to be a better driver and just focusing on their "Tell-me-how-pretty-I-am" in the rearview mirror. or talking on the phone and not paying attention to the road..
 
Driving is easier and you will get used in over time, gal.

I had start driving when I was 15 years old, it was back in 2003.
 
I started to drive at the same year as Foxrac (he's the same age as me) been driving for 6 years now. :)
 
When I first drove. I was nervous and excited. Once I got the hang of it. I thought I was hot stuff!! I was 16.

I would beg my mom to let me do the grocery shopping, or run her errands so I could drive the car. :giggle: Durring the summer months when I was out of school. Mom would let me drop her off at work so I can ride!! Go to the beach and hang out with friends.

Oh Boy!! Those were the days!!
 
Wow- minivans can't be that old can they? I know what you mean though with a small car. One day everyone needs a shaggin wagon at least once!

The best thing you can do to show your appreciation to your parents it to tell them thank you and that you love them.
 
Another thing - Get the hang of parallel parking. I am still amused at how Mtv types dent cars and floor it! LOL

haha oh godd...parallel parking..Thats the one thing I'm dreading. I asked my mom and dad that in the Driver education schools would have me do Parallel parking. They think that the driver education schools don't do that to you anymore. Because people rarely do those anymore. Unless you're in NY. I mean I can't wait to drive, But i'm more nervous in driving because I haven't drive yet. The reason I wanted a smaller car because It can kind of help you see the road better, Its not big, because I would hate driving big cars. And also, small cars can sometimes fit in a small space. I'm thinking about having a Silver, Black, or a dark blue car color.

I gotta go, My mom is driving me and my sister to my grandparents for dinner while my parents are going somewhere. I'll check later!! :D
 
First truck was a 1978 Chevy crewcab long bed. Learned how to parallel park in that thing.

I can parallel park a truck with a trailer now adays with no problems. Then again I use to hotshot for a drilling company and I would drive with a gooseneck trailer all day and had to back it up in tight spots.

I was 6 when I first drove though, but it was private property in a old oldsmobile diesel car. 7 I was driving with a standard truck but my dad worked the pedals and I would work the steering and shifter.

It's not hard to drive, just be a defensive driver, always be aware of your surrounding, and make sure your mirrors are set properly cause you can't hear when a car comes up on you. Also don't drive too close to the person in front of you, cause they will slam their breaks on you.

Other then that have fun!
 
I remember when I started learning how to drive.. I was a complete CHICKEN! Dad tried to get me to drive his Buick car in an empty parking lot, and I freaked out. At the driving range (I took a driver's ed course at the high school), I REFUSED to drive any of those OLD OLD cars, so I ended up driving my interpreter's car around the parking lots at the Events Center. whew. I've had my license for 7 years and I'm still a wussy driver. I just drove up and down the mountains for the first time ever yesterday, and I've only driven on the interstate to another town 2 hours away ONCE and that was a year and half ago.

I'm sure you'll do just fine. :)
 
I have been old enough to drive for a few years, but havent had driving lessons. I think it's because I know I would not be able to afford a car till I got a job. There is a driving instructor in my local area who can sign but it's money isnt it?

LMAO! Ive been driving for over 23 years since I was 15 but I didnt get my license til I was 17.

and I agree with coolgirlspyer that its better to have a cheap nice car than a Beemer or Lexus for first car. I never forget my first 2 cars were cheap (1977 Pontiac Grand Prix and 1980 Ford TBird). Funny I learned to drive on cars with V8 motors and I drive 4 bangers most of the time esp when 90% of the cars I had were 4 cyl motors.

The most challenge part of driving? I say its learning how to handle stickshift cars :)
 
Gosh, I remember when my mom took me to an empty parking lot without telling me what was going on. She parked the car and I was like, "What's going on?" She said, "Now, it is time for u to practice driving." I was like "SERIOUS????" It was one of the most exciting days of my life..ha.

That was back in 1987. I have been driving for 22 years now..no problems. :)

There are days when I dont feel like driving and would rather walk. Ironic cuz when I was a kid, I grabbed any opportunity not to walk and now I grab any opportunity to walk instead of driving!

This brings me back to a lot of good memories when I first started driving. I learned how to drive at a young age (12-13 years old) on my Dad and Uncle's farm since it was way back deep down in the rural area which gave me the advantage to drive. Of course, I couldn't drive on the main roads or interstate, etc until I was licensed at 15/16. (Permit at 15; Licensed at 16).

The day I turned 16, I went straight to the DMV to take the Driver's License test. :lol: I know, I was too excited and couldn't wait until I get myself licensed. That was way back in 1993.

Coolgirlspyder - I wish you the best and good luck on your driving journey. It will be one of the most exciting part of your life. :) Drive safe and you'll do good.

What's with the laugh buddy? I am only 22 years old, well almost. You can explain 6 years.

Did you know that for the first year these people who got their licence, are banned to drive high powered cars in Sydney?
 
haha, Well the most part i'm worried about is the Written Test that i have to pass first. I mean I have the driver's manual for that to study for. And I'm also worried about driving with a driver instructor next to me. I haven't even started driving yet. And I'm more nervous about that. So hopefully i can get off my lazy butt and start driving.
 
I got my license when AI was 16; a few years later, dad tried to teach me how to drive a stick and the first time I popped the clutch, I thought he was going to have a heart attack. So, I kicked him out and taught myself. Fast forward a few years, learned how to double clutch a school bus and fortunately, got assigned to an automatic for the school year, the last year for the Ford buses. :bye: A few years later, went to truck driving school and learned how to drive semi truck; when I was with one trainer, he taught me how to shift without using the clutch.

Parallel a crew cab truck? :laugh2: Try doing that with either a 40-foot school bus (no trailer) or with a semi and a 53' trailer then tell me how tough it is! :laugh2:

Then, of course, I learned how to drive, park and back up on glare ice. I'm betting that with 80,000 lbs., (36,287 kg metric) no one will argue or fight with me over a parking spot. :D
