Christmas tree--Real or fake and the timing to put it up

Christmas tree

Yes, we decorated the real tree in 2nd living room and our garden yesterday.

My hubby brought a large tree (around 7 feet tall) and too big so my son Danny suggest to change our couch, sofa and table to be free for that tree. It look much better now. Danny's suggestion is much better!

Anyway, my boys decorated the tree themselves and won't let us to help them. All what we drank cup of tea and cookie and watch them.

It look pretter and "scottish" romantic tree decoration.

I decorated a 6 foot 2 inches fake Christmas tree that was given by my husband's Godmother last winter. The husband died of brain cancer over a year ago and she didn't want to keep a lot of stuff in her place. So, she thought about us because we take good care of things. What a gorgeous tree. Have many Korean style ornaments, sparkling red, white, gold, silver birds with white feather tail, white and silver sparkling snowflakes, and white lights around the tree. Finally getting the Christmas spirit!

We prefer live trees but my mother-in-law gave us her large fake tree (she is downsizing), so we really don't need two trees. Live trees are too expensive, so we can save money using her tree. We decorate the tree with a nautical theme, like our house. We usually don't put it up until after hubby's birthday this week. We like to celebrate his birthday seperate from Christmas. When he was a kid he got combined birthday/Christmas presents and no parties, so now I always celebrate his birthday as a special occasion, seperate from Christmas. My mom and step-dad's birthday was also in December (same day), so I am used to doing it that way.

My daughter will be a year old on December 17 and she won't know the differece, but she will when she gets older. I love decorating for Christmas just after Thanksgiving. Guess I can't do that when my daughter gets to be two years old huh Reba?

Yes, we also decorate lighting on windows bay and fire place, too.

Candles and lighting decoration are everywhere in 2 living room and dining rooms, kitchen and boys's bedroom and hallway.... (stairs)

lighting on front door and lighting on our garden tree. (copy Aussie's tradition). More Germans decorated lightning in their gardens now.

I have a fake tree. But, I did not put it up yet. I am trying to find a place for it ha ha.. since I brought new furniture I cant find a place to put the tree now.


I was planning on buying a real tree because, I love the smell of pine I heard if you take good care of it, then your house wouldn't start fire.

I don't have one since I'm living in the dorms. However, if I did get one... it would be artificial because I don't want to have to go through with the hassle of taking care of a real tree. Plus, it's really messy as the tree is brought in the home and as the tree is being cleaned out. :roll:

Not really, I use real tree as cut wood for fire place to fire. Simple is take the real tree from terrace door to our garden to leave it until spring and let sunshine to dry the tree.


(woods should be dry before we cut the woods to use for our fire place).

No, but the candle should not go near real tree. I would not add candles on real tree. It means that I has to watch them and make sure it's safety. No way. I use electricity lighting on that real tree.

Candles is on bank of fire place, coffee table, dining table, etc. where it should be not near to real tree.

We havent gotten it yet...but since Dad should be home today, we will probably get it sometime this week...and put up the angels, Santa Clauses, knick knacks, til the house is full to bursting...and then we'll be shoving the presents through the bathroom window.

I think you can decorate for Christmas, that's fine. Just remember to get your daughter a birthday cake and birthday presents (not mixed with Christmas presents). I'm sure that you are more sensitive about your daughter than my in-laws were for my hubby (and his sister--she was a December baby, too). Their parents used to say, "Hey, you got plenty of Christmas presents, you don't need birthday presents too!" My hubby never, never had a birthday party, until we married.

One suggestion: Set aside "birthday" money for your daughter each year during the summer. Then, when all the Christmas expenses pop up you will still have enough money just for her birthday cake and presents.

When my parents were alive, my sis-in-law used to have a July "birthday" party for them, instead of their actual birthday in December.

My friend used to put a small rotating fake tree with lights in her bathroom shower stall. The shower had a glass door, so when the lights were off in the bathroom, the tree was emphasized.

She didn't leave it there all the time, just for the evening that she had her annual Christmas party.

Another friend floats candles in her bathtub when she has parties at her house.

We already got real xmas tree. It's all decorated as usual as the tradiation. Stairs are all light up, fireplace has all the stockings, outside of the house have lights on as always, wreaths are up too, lots of more of xmas spirit everywhere in the house... :-D It's a MUST to have real tree!

I'm sorry for your parents-in-law's attitude about putting his birthday and Christmas together for that long. I'm glad he has you and you've truly made the difference in his life. That's really sweet of you and he must feel real special. This is exactly what we want for our daughter. To enjoy her birthday and Christmas APART. Celebrating a birthday in the summer for December people sounds like a great idea.

Wow, that sounds very interesting and beautiful. Wouldn't that be too hard to go to the bathroom when there's so much distractions going on in the bathroom? (that's what I was kidding about with Liebling, ha!)
