Big City or Small Town...???

Would you prefer to live in a big city or small town?

For years, I have lived in big city (pop. 120,000)...and with sooo many small towns in the state I grew up in, I could NEVER imagine living in a small town, there was NO way I was going to...several years ago changed that and given me a new perspective towards small towns...where I discovered lots of space, peacefulness...more ppls. being friendlier...and of course, less traffic...even if it meant less places of various kinds of businesses available...driving to the nearest big town or city took care of that....right now, I'm in a much bigger metropolitian area, there are times I'd wished it was smaller and less populated, less congestions out on the roads/highways, etc.,...

It would be interesting to know your preferences and the reasons....
 
Although I live in the largest city of Utah, it is not as large as Philadelphia or New York City. The city where I live in now still has the feeling of suburbs, even though I live 2 miles from Temple Square. SLC only has a small fraction of the population of NYC (140.000 people compared to 3 million in Manhattan). The only complaint I have living here in SLC is that it's always a pain to go through downtown traffic to work, as there is no other way to go around it without taking more time. But other than that, I think SLC is a great city to live in, so close to mountains and so much to do for hiking, parks, stores (some open on Sunday, hurrah), etc...
 
I live in a smallish town but it's a halfway between big and small so it's perfect. If I want small towns, I go south down the coast and if I want bigger, I go up north the coast... so it's a quite nice place where I live.
 
I've always live in ' Big City '....but now I would love to move into a small town ...I guess I am a country girl!..... :fly3:
 
I have always lived in the city...born there, raised there and still live there! :) Yuck. I hate it...it is too crowded sometimes. Well I don't HATE it, but I do dislike trying to walk down the street and always getting bumped into by people who are rude enough to keep right on walking. :)

So I'd like to live in the country someday...peace and quiet, plenty of space, privacy and a safe place to raise my kids. :)

I'm a city girl and will always be one for as long as I live! I grew up living 5 miles away from Boston. Cannot imagine myself living in a small, lonely town like my hubby did for years. He lived in a small town in New York and since he moved here he said he wouldn't go back. He considers himself a city boy now. :cool:
 
I'm in between. People say that Dallas, TX is a huge city. However, I live in a city that's north of Dallas. It's still big, but it's not exactly HUGE. As for Rochester, it's the same. Rochester is a big city, and I live in South Henrietta so it's a city... which isn't exactly HUGE.
 
I prefer something inbetween, I guess. I love visiting downtown Minneapolis, and I try to do so as often as I can. I have visited friends who live in small towns, and I get so bored :) So I think I prefer the suburbs of big cities (such as the city I live in now - Edina, or where my mom lives - St Louis Park.) Big city living is too expensive anyways :P
 
I am a city girl, but our house is in the country. I drive to the city everyday to work and home in the country on weekend. :cool:
 
I forgot to add:
I was born and raised in a tiny village of about 250 inhabitants. All of us had farms and the houses were far apart. Over the years, farms started disappearing, and houses were being built on these farmlands. I am sad because the woods were cut down and houses built. It is still growing, and I bet in 10 year's time, if I go see my village again, that it will look so different. The local store was upsized to a SuperWawa with gas station and all, and so on. Crazy...

Although I consider myself a city boy, I still like the proximity between Salt Lake City and the surrounding countryside such as Park City and Midway. It's so beautiful to go hiking in that area and enjoy the mountains. It wouldn't hurt to have a holiday home out in that area, but I would need a 4x4 vehicle first to drive in the snow. heh

I was army bratz and moved all around USA.. I have experienced big city and small town all of my life.. when I got older, I started to have preference of where I live ... not have to follow my army dad all around.

I have been living in Pittsburgh, PA ( 2nd large city in PA ) with my husband and he is a native there. I liked it okay there and moved to small town here, in Cave Spring, GA.. wow.. big difference.. peace and quiet.. beautiful mountains and creek.. deers walk by like nothing scare them.. sometimes deer run along with our van .. (fun) My hubby loved the country as I do now. We dont like living in the city anymore like our college years.. pfft.. Glad to be here !
 
I grew up big city myself.... and have been live in small town and middle class city ... what I really like to live in big city is too much thing to do round .... and small town is dead boring but peaceful and less problem with deaf community but hate that part is that everybody know who u are .... it drive me nuts !!! and middle class city is wonderful place to live !!! but I have been grew up in Mile High City Metro .... I recall that back in 70's Denver only had one tower ... but now i think it has probaly 10 or 15 towers and too heavy traffic during rush hour !! I was thinking about moving out of Mile High City and possible out of state ... but I am not sure about it yet ... hopefuly live in middle class city .. cuz i am very respond to Deaf Community since I can't live without deaf community otherwise my brain probaly be dead and way behind the news of updates like new laws and new informations events etc u know what i am talk about ...

Washington D.C. will be a good choice if you plan to move out of state. Deaf community there is huge due to Galludent.

yeah but I rather not be nearby captial area !!! U may call me chicken or parniod due to 9/11 types or nukes as I don't want to be among the first hits !!! catch my drifts ?

I was raised in a big city (55,000) but it have other cities connected to it which its called Twin cities.. those who lives in minnesota have an idea what it is.. till i graduate from high school.
I,then moved to Eagan.. its a smaller city but still so-called a big city i like Eagan better than the city i raised (brooklyn Park) because its more space, richer, less traffic, closer to MOA, closer to Minn Zoo, and closer to MSAD.

Now I live in a Extremely smaller town (22,000) And there's no other town nearby this town we live in is like we know everyone around here. the near town is 5 miles away which that town is 500 people..

Anyway since my experience in living in both big cities and small town.. i have pro and cons in both cities..

pros about big cities is, friends are nearby, family nearby, things to do around
cons about big cities is, Too much traffic, annoying peeps, stores are too crowded

pros about small town is, Friendly people, few traffic, peaceful neighboorhood, can go snowmobiling or ATVing :D
cons about small town is, Few deaf people live around here, Not much to do around that's fun, long drive to see family,friends or go to deaf events.
 
I am definteley a city girl!! My parents were city people as well. I go to school in Bloomsburg which is like in the middle of nowhere and if I wanted to go shopping, clubs, or go out to dinner, I'd have to drive 45 minutes to the nearest city, Wilkes-Barre or Williamsport. Where I live is not too bad...pretty much suburban, but my mom wants to move again because she misses the "city" life lol.
 
I think choosing between big and small cities is like choosing between people and animals. :lol: In the great plains whereas the land is flat and few trees, in the country you could talk to the cows all year without talking much to peeps. I wonder if that is how Bush got elected governor in Texas after talking to the cows in his ranch near Crawford, Texas. :laugh2: But me stepping on bullshit, I think I will prefer living in the cities (suburbs) instead of rugged countryside. I heard European countryside is beautiful especially France. So not all countryside are bad. But living in the cities will give you more services like natural gas line, sewer line, cable line, many stores to pick from, and theaters. Saves lot of gas in the car going around less than 5 miles to get everything you need.
 
I like big cities. one million people lives in one city is good enough for me. any less than it, it is a town to me. :D

1,255,742 in San Diego... larger than San Francisco... (second runner-up next to Los Angeles)

Got couple good friends that live in surbs of Minneapolis/St. Paul area including Edina as well but I'm almost always in Brainerd area whenever I'm in Minnesota. I'm from Illinios myself, grew up in the country outside Bloomington/Normal. So I would prefer live in a country just outside a city or suburbs. Right now I live in Gates, which is considered a suburb of Rochester with wonderful roomies as well. So peaceful and less traffic, not to mention open space views of the nature! :)
