How do you deal with it when you have to breathe in that smoke, second hand smoke, mind you, and get sick?

I have had to tell my 3 brothers to butt out with the smoking in my house so they can smoke outside in summertime and in wintertime tehy can smoke downstair in the basement.. one time my 3rd brother wasnt supposed to smoke while in the loo (bathroom) and his wife told me he was smoking in there and I yelled at him about that told him no smoking the shyt in there please.. lol.... I did mutter some cuss words at him for sure... lol oh boy...

My first response would be to go somewhere else that is smoke free, there are places that are smoke free apartments, condos etc.......

I have a tolerance for it as long as the smoke doesn't stream my way! LOL

I would find that impossible to deal with. We own our house, but if you can't do that, I think you could find a house to rent and not have the smoke problem.

I never allow anyone to smoke in my apt. My husband used to smoke a cigarette. His friends and sister come over to our apt. They smoked a cigarette in other room when I was sleep. I smelled and wake up. I yelled at them for smoke a cigarette in other room. I couldn't get sleep. Because it's bother me. I don't like smoke in my APT or house period! You should read other threads at General Health.

I'm married. We don't want to have any roommate to live with us. I want to have a family only. If our friends are sleepover here. I will tell them to smoke out at my patio. His sister complained about outside was so cold and freeze. She wouldn't smoke. I told her toobad! She have to wear a glove at outside. This is SMOKE FREE!

Last 1 or 2 years ago. My husband's best friend who is smoking a cigarette. He asked us if we don't mind to live with him at our apt. Then he changed his mind and not want to live because I am not allow smoking in my apt. Toobad for him!

Doug,

The friend that I live with rolls his own cigarettes, twice divorced, smokes in the house and allows his gf to smoke, too. I have been sick since a week ago Monday, when the doctor told me it wasn't strep throat. The coughing broke yesterday, but am still coughing, not as bad as before. I'm looking at another place tomorrow morning, as I can't take this smoke anymore.

Forgot to mention, friend has custody of his three kids by two different women; eldest (a girl), supposedly has ODD. Any chances of the smoking causing that?

Yeah, I was raise with my dad's smoking cigarette since he died. I got hit sick with my sinus for 3 years. I can't stand to smell smoke stick into my clothes and hair. But my friends do smoking in their house. After I left their house and go home. I took a shower to clean out from stink cigarette!

Absolutely. If you move into a home with a smoker, you knew what you were getting at the start. If it bothers you, find a smoke free place.

Smoking does not cause ODD.

Smoking definatly can be cause for IUGR (intrauterine growth retardation) or low birthweights- whatever you call it. That can translate into a whole slew of problems, but wouldn't supprise if some neuroligical issues, such as OCD, like you says. What were the consentual agreements to the place (rules etc) when either of you got together as roomates?

I rather not live with a smoker ever again. If a friends want to smoke,, I prefer they do it outside like any other dogs. My child health is more important to have smoke free clean home for her to breathe. Smoking smells, polluates, and make my walls dirty from the smoking. I don't hate smokers but smoking is a turn off for me.

im been smoking for longtimes when i was 18 years old till im stop by 2006 its my decision to quit for my good reasons because of my lung surgery when i was young. They later i smoke again for while but my plans to quit again.

my brother been smoking but im not sure how long he been smoking and my mom and me not felt like smell at my brother's smoking remind of my late grandfather who been smoking chain!

my mom got smoking plates for my brother but im hope he will smoking outside they dont smoking inside!

my boyfriend not smoking its his decision and he asked me dont smoking so i plans to quit ASAP dues respectives!

I've had roommates that smoked, but they always smoked outside. They prefer to keep their place smelling fresh inside. :)

I don't allow anyone to smoke in my apartment, but I still can't avoid smoke, though, because the people who lives below me smoke. Their smoke comes into my apartment through the vents. Ugh! :barf: Oh well, I don't really have a choice - I cannot afford to move!

Simple: move out and get your own apartment or get a new roommate. You're old enough.
