By the way, see if you can figure out where this was taken. I’ll give you a hint—that is the Great White Throne behind us on the left, but this shot was not taken from the West Rim or from Angel’s Landing.
Then I tucked my tail between my legs and made a beeline back to the West Rim Trail.
There used to be a cabled trail to the summit back in the 1930’s, but the Park Service closed the trail and took the cables down about 60 years ago because it was just too dangerous. Don’t try it! It’s basically death at any second. There’s about 15 places on the mountain where if you biffed it you’d be dead. The view from the top is incredible, though. Angel’s Landing looks like an ant hill from up there. It’s the only place in the park that has a 360° panorama of Zion Canyon and the entire West Rim drainage. It was worth doing, but I’ll never do it again!
