I hate doing laundry. Literally loathe doing it. I like to do it on a consistent basis so it doesn't pile up on me, but lately I've not been able to do that...so now I have mountains of laundry.

I'm curious. What laundry "system" do you use? What soap works best? Any tips?

I usually use Tide with Bleach, and I sometimes add baking soda.

i normally do my laundry every tuesday evening at the same time so it becomes habit and i don't continually put it off.

i put my dark clothes in one clothes hamper and my whites in another. when I take my laundry to the laundry room, i put the laundry basket in a shopping cart and pull that behind me so i don't have to worry about balancing the basket under one arm while using my cane, guide dog or trailing the wall with my other arm.

as for laundry detergent, i use "all." prior to that, i used "era" before it was discontinued at my local grocery store.

I just do laundry every time I run out of clean pants. It can be anytime either the week or weekend.

I just dump whites and colors into the washer and toss in a cupful of Arm n Hammer soap in it and turn it on.

I also consider laundry day payday cuz I fish out a lot of change in the washer

sabs,

you never experience fading or blending of colors when you put colored clothes and white clothes in the same load?

never had a problem with that :)

Only thing is if I forget to take out ink pens before tossing my pants into the washer....nice ink spots on my clothes. Ruined my favorite Cas Walker Coon Hunter t-shirt. Added a lot of character to it :) So I just wore it anyways.

I have to carry pens around a lot because of my job that involves a LOT of writing and I keep forgetting to take the pens out every time I get home from work.

oh, okay. :)

before i received braille clothing tags, i also used to combine all of my clothes in the same load but sometimes they would blend colors and/or fade.

then again, i don't have alot of white clothes, so it's not a problem separating lights from darks -- especially during the summer months.

Interesting about the braille tags on your laundry.

So if you buy clothes at a store do you have the clerk attach the braille tags that you bring with you before you take it home?

That gives me an idea to suggest to the higher-ups at the company I work for (Goody's Family Clothing a regional clothing store most in the South where I live) in order to improve their customer service.

yes, i do. i bring the braille clothing tags with me as well as safety pins. i just have the clerk who's helping me attach the braille tags with safety pins and it works out well that way since my clothes are instantly ready to match.

i also make my life easier by purchasing neutral colored clothing.

for example, i always wear white socks in the spring and summer and black socks in the fall and winter. this prevents me from accidentally wearing two differently colored socks.

My secret:

TOTALLY TODDLER!! Seriously though it gets stains out that other stainbusters fail to remove. Also another for removing superglue from your favorite jeans is Disolve-It.

I hate doing the laundry too and I feel like it never ends. Thanks to my new HE washer and dryer we had to buy over the summer after our old one flooded the basment, the laundry time has been cut short. As for laundry tips, I dont have any cuz I dont have any patience for it..I just throw everything in the washer..dont even bother separating the clothes. Blah!

If you want your clothes looking finely pressed and crisp longer you should NOT wash jeans and towels with everything else. The friction of jeans rubbing against your shirts tends to stretch and wear them out faster. You can however put your jeans and towels together in the same load without a problem, and you should turn your jeans inside out to preserve the dark wash in them, otherwise it will fade out after 3-4 washes.

Also towels cause those pesky fuzzballs allover your shirts so that is why you never wash towels with anything but other towels or your jeans.

I know that throwing the clothes together isnt good for them but my life is sooo busy and I am just too tired to expend the energy on that. I just have a hard time finding the time lately to be able to do that with my laundry. I used to do all that...I probably need a laundry basket sorter agian. LOL!

Always do my laundry every Sat morning. I never put white with colours cos mostly i wear alot of dark colours or bright colour clothes.

Never knew about jean and shirt but whew luckily i have always wash my jeans on it own as i often go thru three pair a week.

Towels are washed seperately cos they are lovely and thick. I always use cold water for washing my clothes with Cold Power washing powder and it always comes up a treat.

I never forget my mother using a LOT of Cold Power soap way back in the '70's.

Since my kids left home and it is just me and my husband, I do one big load a day.

I try to keep to all khaki pants instead of jeans and everything comes out fine.

Unscented undyed soap and dryer sheets.
