7-Year-Old Forced to Take Bus 3 Times

NYC isn't safe for little ones to be out alone, that's for sure. I agree with Eve, Redhead and Angel. I would never let my 11 year old kid go out to NYC alone.. its not just NYC, It's all over the world. A young child shouldn't be out there alone. they should have a couple of friends or group together.

Yes I can image that helpless child alone is on the middle of big city which is not safe.

It´s not just all over the world but depend on which safe places with good enviornment, you can trust to live.

even kids having a cell phone doesn't save lives! cell phones can be helpful but it surely doesn't 100% save lives.

Yes I has to agree with you on this.

Yes I know and has to agree with you on this but the authories don´t care.

Why you are not sure to trust cabbies?

I thought NYC is a safe place to live? I remember the thread somewhere here said that NYC is a safety place?

cabbies are more likely criminals looking for money or sexual harrassments.. that's what I think.. I don't live in New York but we'll wait to see if someone else can answer that.. lol

NYC isn't a safe place to walk around alone. Its best to go with a group or several friends.

but the problem will be create more because they will tell you to take a car or taxi - why can´t you do that then?
Good question. First of all, here in America all children are entitled to a "FREE and appropriate public education", that includes transportation to and from school if necessary. Furthermore, it is not as easy to get around in a big city, nor is it as safe, as to do so in the suburbs or rural areas. Most school districts require transportation to be provided to students if they live more than 1.5 miles from the school or if they must walk in an unsafe environment (along a busy street or crossing a busy intersection).

The cab driver is a stranger. Would you trust your little kid alone in a car with a stranger?

Every big city has some dangerous areas and many strangers.

Someone said that 11-13 years old are old enough to ride on public transportation ?...Well not my children, I won't allow them to ride the public transportation alone either...so I'm with Eve on this one...

Not alone, no. I would only let them if they are going in a group like with 2 or 3 friends. And if they have a cell phone and understand how to use relay or the phone has texting capabilities. Also, depends on which areas of the city they are going through. Ghettos, no way! And only during the day when it is light out.

Agreed. I was :eek3: when Liebling thought NYC was a safe place to live!

Well, all middle school and high school in LA school district aren't allow students to ride on school bus except for students with handicapped, also they are just walk to school, ride on city bus, parent drop off/pick up, ride on bikes or other thing to get in school.

It was counted on crime rate, that low than most largest US cities and doesn't make safe for them but depends on area, such as South Bronx and Harlem are unsafe.

cabbies - do you mean private taxi, not yellow taxi?

Logical yes, I alway make sure that my boys go with their mates, not alone.

Yes, I aware that every school buses are free for school education.. It´s same with here in Germany as well.

Yes I can understand that it´s unsafe for the children go alone in a large and busy city.

A school bus should be responsible is take them to school and bring them back to their homes. Its about children safety.

stranger? but he work as cab driver... (see my question at Rebelgirl´s post). We don´t have cab driver here in Germany but taxi. We prefer to drive children everywhere than leave them with taxi driver because of taxi expenses.

Yes I agree - that´s why I choose to not live a big city.

I only said is because accord other threads somewhere here that NYC is a safe place... I was like "Oh" because I know for a long time that every large cities are not safe place to live until threads come last year or 2 years ago and claim with links that NYC is a safe place to live... :dunno:

Oh no Hun, no place is safer than others. Every place has it own flaws. ;) NYC is a very busy traffic and so much people, it's not good for young kids should be walking around down there alone.

OMG...if that 7 year old was my child and we were told he had to take the city bus to school, I would have a coronary AND an aneurysm!!! :pissed:
7 years old is too fucking young to be on a city bus by himself!!!

NO SHIT!!!!

Child molesters started years ago, especially at catholic boarding schools, institutions, etc.

Yea I agree..I read on some research that the number of child molestors per population quota is still about the same as it was 100 years ago. The only difference is that it wasnt public knowledge like it is now so it seems like more cases now.

Yellow cabs and for hire cabs are all privately owned. The yellow cabs are for hailing rides, and the for hire cabs are for base dispatched pick ups.

stranger? but he work as cab driver...
Just because someone works as a cab driver doesn't mean the mom knows him. There are over 100,000 cab and limo drivers in NYC. Most likely the drivers will be people that she has never before met.

We don´t have cab driver here in Germany but taxi....
What's the difference?

Yes I´m with you on this.

High child molestors from family household, relatives, school, church etc. than outside.

Yes, I aware that it´s unsafe for the children alone in a big and busy city.

interesting... I remember old days hm.. few times I wud be late to school due to yellow bus school but I am sure the school in NYC excused kids from being late due to stupid transportation... blah and I agree that 7 years old is too young to take city bus.. but sadly I notice more and more kids are younger to take bus like at this age.. I was like geez oh well.. if I had kids I wud have my kids have cell phone cuz of due to communication I don't want any lack of communication tho.. and some kids I see are too young but wud be with bro or sis on bus.. or family relative as usual.

Offtopic...

Sometimes I wish kids up to middle school age would be prohibited from riding the city bus without adult present because I really hate it when 12-13 years olds who have just gotten out of school, they come to the bus station/bus stop or get on the bus and they throw stuff at other people, act inappropriate, get in everyone's way, get loud, etc...it disturbs everyone else. I have actually witnessed a 12 year old throw a molten black banana at an adult bus passenger and he got away with it.

I understand if it is the only way they have to get to school, but for love of all that's good, please BEHAVE and be considerate of other passengers!
