    Music and Cochlear Implants

PAC is best For me, the Personal Audio Cable (PAC) is best, better than t-coil, better than headphones, better than fancy speakers. With the PAC make sure to experiment with your sensitivity setting; setting sensitivity to zero gives the best sound by cutting out all background noise...

How long do you wear your HA/Ci's in a day?

I put on my CI immediately after showering in the morning, and don't take it off until I go to bed. The HA I usually wear at work and in some social situations, otherwise it stays in its box. I need to wear it more (keep that ear stimulated for a possible second CI). Sometimes I go for a...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Are you deaf? I am late, progressively deafened, but never considered myself as "deaf" until quite recently. Since then, however, I've had some thoughts. I think you are "deaf" if you cannot hold a conversation effectively. You may be able to hear all sorts of environmental sounds, but if...

Inputs on CI and Hearing Aids

I am one of the late-deafened, and the problem is not so much whether I could learn ASL, but more about whether my family, my friends, and my coworkers could learn ASL. I ended up taking some classes, and love ASL, but no one I know is Deaf so I never get a good chance to use it. For me...

    CI Moments

Latest CI moment for me: YouTube - Susan Boyle - Singer - Britains Got Talent 2009 (With Lyrics) (I could not understand all the words, but the singing was amazing.) I am *so* happy to be able to hear again.

Anyone ever just throw the HA out and be deaf?

For me, digital aids worked *so* much better than analog, but they did take a long time to get used to. My audiologist really encouraged me to wear them as much as possible, and I hated them but I also loved them, and the deafer I got the more I loved them because they became the only way I...

    exercise and CI's

Running I run long distances with the CI on with no difficulties. I ran a marathon with my CI on in April. (Now that it's rainy season, though, I'm probably not going to wear my CI for long runs, because between the rain and sweat, it would literally be soaking in water for hours, and I...

    CI Moments

Another CI moment Can something as prosaic as listening to the car radio on the way home from work in a traffic jam---and actually *understanding* the news---be considered a CI moment? I used to hate traffic jams; wasting my life on 101. Now, they don't bother me so much; there's always...

Longtime browser, scheduled for CI impalnt 11/12

Short hair Congrats! Short hair is the way to go, for sure; dirty long hair is just nasty, and washing your hair is sometimes forbidden for a while. You may not be off your feet very long! But do take it easy. Congratulations and I hope you find all the pleasure of hearing that I have...

    cheaper source for PACS?

If you get background noise with the audio cable, try turning your sensitivity all the way down to S0 and see if it goes away for you. It does for me! Crystal clear music or audio even with the loudest background noise. I'd like to see a someone not deaf do that.

watch on hbo of hear and now

    > Four years later they are both happy with their implants. They have caught up with one another now. They are a very sweet supportive couple too! This is very interesting! Do you have any more information? A reference would be great! It was a very bittersweet show; I wish both of them the best.

    Freedom Battery Compartment

turn sensitivity down Howdy everyone! For me the key to using the personal audio cable (PAC) with an Ipod in noisy environments (like an airplane or a loud street) is to simply turn the sensitivity down---way down, even all the way down to S0 sometimes. For me, the sensitivity controls...

    My 3 month result!

Congratulations! Good results; keep working on it! Don't use no cable as an excuse. Buy a pair of ear-cup headphones and stick them over both ears, over the whole CI; that works surprisingly well and they are cheap. (This works either using just the microphones, or frequently in the telecoil...

    countdown to CI surgery!

Turn it down? Wow, I thought you would be able to turn these things down, just like we do with hearing aids, if the environment is too loud. Is that not the case? I know they are 100% different from hearing aids, but between the sensitivity and volume controls one would think you'd be able to...
