Adjustable Light Bulb?

Exactly! Some people still prefers checks because they "Thinks" its safer than debit card and refused to switch, but in reality both are the same thing. And these people have no clue about this.

I have not write checks for years, don't see point of using checks because I knew how system works.
TCS accepts only checks or cash from his customers. He doesn't want to pay the fees for using cards. In all his years of business he's only had two customers not make good on their checks.

That one will take time and give you free ride.

My whole point is that technology has evolved so fast and so amazed. I could give you more examples. 1965 TTY was invented, do we use it nowadays? Not many use them, we now use what is called VideoPhone. See? That is one example how technology has evolve the society.

Jiro if you disagree, I would suggest you visit Intercourse, PA and see what Amish people live on? They (Orthodox Amish) don't believe in technology and don't see need of em.

Unless you're sending a check thru the mail, it's processed at most retailers just like a debit card. That is, they scan it, and it's recorded at the bank as quickly as a debit purchase.

I use checks for mailing, person-to-person payments, and for church offerings. They pass an offering plate at church, not a scanner. :giggle:

In stores, online shopping, and at gas stations, I use a debit card.

Our church as an online giving program, but I still write 1 check for the monthly offerings. Though I give the same amount each month, I like to indicate on the envelopes how much goes to "specials". I'm not sure the online giving site will let me do that. I think it's set up to automatically take out the indicated monthly amount from your checking account.

Yes, we designate our giving on the envelope also.

I also keep handy my checks for giving for unplanned special offerings that are taken on that day during the service. For example, when the pastor mentions an emergency need that has just happened to one of the members or missionaries, or when we have a guest speaker.

It seems more personal to put an actual offering in the plate. I think it's good for the kids to see the example of their parents giving, and the kids always seem to enjoy putting their own coins in the plate. :)

Even if our church set up automatic giving, I couldn't do that because I don't get a regular paycheck. Same with Hubby. Self-employment means irregular income.

Our church's school does have an automatic payment system for the school's tuition.

EZ passes are pointless for me because Alabama doesn't have any toll roads, except for bridge in Mobile/Gulf Shores.

Florida does have some toll roads.

Disagree? How can I disagree when I live in a rapidly-changing modern city?

One place the surprised me that I had to write a check rather than use my debit card was to renew my auto license plate. It seems Regions Bank uses the wrong debit processor to suite the State of Illinois! It is a Visa debit card and the state does not take anything branded Visa as Visa has higher processing fees than others.

but... many households would not get color-changing bulbs...

we've had color-changing LEDs for quite a while now.... and nobody gets it except college students or "pimp my ride" guys
Some people do have a preference for colored lighting. It would come in handy for baby rooms or kids rooms.

I do know that there's a pink light bulb that softens the mood of the room.

Huh?

Hey, think how many light bulbs in Vegas and other vegas style cities? It appears that somebody found a way to make a single bulb that can change colors, tone, illuminate levels, and so on. It is not about necessity and luxury. It is the idea of producing one that fits all.
Man, LED does have potentials.
Yeah! :thumb:

Imagine if the whole house had these! You just walk in a room and change the lights so that they fit your mood. What if they had enough technology so that these lights change depending on what's going on around you. For instance, the alarm goes off... lights will brighten enough for you to see, but not too bright to blind you at first "daylight". Perhaps, a little light trail that lights part of your path as you walk through the dark home in the middle of the night to the bathroom. Even a room light that changes color based on what's going on in a movie you're watching on television. Watching the Hulk? The room gives you a shade of green in some places whenever the Hulk appears on screen. The possibilities are limitless!

beside.... we've had "adjustable lightbulb" for a few decades already...

ta-da!!!
My dad installed those in several rooms around the house. He actually did it years ago for the purpose of a murder mystery night he was hosting one night. After that night, he just left the lights alone because they came in handy.

Exactly! I believe this will come out in production for a long time. Timing couldn't be any better. 30 years, no computers, today we got too much.... oh maybe not enough, LOL

Even though I changed subject to chex system and checking account system. I was referring to how technology changed while Society at the beginning opposed to the idea.

So, this idea of programming LED light bulb is great, and I don't see it as luxury or necessity. Mainly it is a benefit for us.

What I was thinking, we now have VP on computer, smartphone. This could have the possibility simple programming to change the light bulb or flash them when incoming calls is up. That will be cheaper than these devices where we buy to plug in alert of VP calls, doorbell ringing etc. Other idea, if you got room mate and each of you own a Videophone or smartphone with VP in it, can program to flash different color, like as if you choose Golden flash light and your roommate choose Purple flash with same light bulb! I don't like the idea of having too many lamps or flashers all over. One bulb do all the dirty work, eh?

When it comes to alert system, I prefer regular (Including LED) bulb over Xenon tube. I hate super ultra bright light because it can startle me easily. When half of my Gentex smoke detectors with built in strobe breaks, Im going convert them to regular smoke alarm and have relay take over and combined with the system that I built for doorbells, Carbon Monoxide and baby crying.

Yeah! :thumb:

Maybe I should have gone on and added that they DO take debit cards just not those branded Visa. So . . . if your bank uses say, Master Card, you are fine and can use your debit card to pay them.

It is the same way with credit cards and the State of Illinois — they will not take Visa but there are others that they do take.

What will they cost when they hit the market? I have at least 75 bulbs in and around my house. That includes regular, decorative "flame" tip shape, for dimming, on motion detectors, recessed in the ceiling, on timers, floodlights, and various shapes, sizes, and capacities.

I'm still not clear about what happens if the WiFi goes down. Can you override that and use the lights manually?

I'm not anti-technology; I don't want to live in a disco or theme park.

Will these bulbs come on faster than the current CFL's? It's annoying waiting for the lights to come to full illumination.

Will the "white" lights have that weird cold bluish tinge like the LED's do now? Or will they have a more natural spectrum?
