Expert: we’ll be marrying robots by 2050

How is that old news? In Japan, they're trying to teach this robot to understand the emotions. God forbids, sooner or later, we will have to deal with robots in our lives. They'll be here to help us reach out to the stars that we have dream since birth of humanity!

Well..not that I don't mind have robot legs to run faster, but it wouldn't be too wise if I spend eternal life being robot. It's far too risk to left being unemotional to understand others.

And it's all unavoidable that our great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren will be robots. If God made man in his image, then do God made robots in his image? Does he wants all his children to be robots??? We have to examine to answer that question.

this concept is old news. people have been trying to do this since 80's. The reason why I mentioned the part about ROBOT IDENTIFYING SMELL is because our body emits certain odor depending on our emotion. It is a very strong explanation to how dogs/cats can understand our emotions.

Prime Boss - understand that just because you have robotic body parts doesn't mean you will lose your emotions. Emotion comes from your brain. You can have robotic heart, arms, legs, kidney, eyes, ears, tongue, etc but the human emotions are still there as long as you have the brain.

I believe you that our great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren will most likely be enhanced by robotic body parts but they will still have human brain. it's something that cannot be replaced. That's the beauty of life - a brain. Humans can replicate anything such as a submarine that moves like a whale, a torpedo that moves like a shark, a small plane that flies like a bird, a helicopter that hovers like hummingbird, millions of nanomites in your body that function together like a colony of ants... but one thing that we can never do - replicate their brains. We can replicate any organism's physical ability but we can never replicate organism's cognition. It's not possible. It will never be achieved - no matter what. Even 5 top geniuses in the world cannot achieve this. It's impossible.

Jolie, I don't think robots will understand the word of "I love you". More like they're going to question that word.

What about tears, hmm???

:hmm:

You know, I didn't think of the intellectual stimulation until you mentioned of it. You're right, some people would prefer to go down that path, and of course, to have a partner that can be logical.

But, What about involving emotions? I don't mean by being sad, happy, crying, elated, so and on. What I mean is, having an dialogue of conversation where both sides can weight each other's emotions that are involved in the process. That's something I wonder about, and how exactly would that work with the robot? Would a robot understand what "I LOVE YOU" really means without being commanded by a key-phrase?

mind you - when I say intellectual stimulation, it doesn't mean we would be talking about Socrates or e=mc2. it just means a continual 2-ways communication exchange between 2 individuals on whatever the topic is. Having a one-way conversation like talking to a dog can get quite depressing and lonesome in a while.

"I love you"... interesting phrase, isn't it? now let's step back and think about why we say "I Love You." We say it to those we love because they remain with us. We say "I Love You" to our dogs because in return - they give us their companionship and undying loyalty. We say "I Love You" to our love ones because of same reason - companionship and undying loyalty.

robo-dog, robo-girl, robo-man, robo-etc. can do this - companionship and undying loyalty. If our robo died, we will weep and mourn for it. If we died, well I don't know how robo will feel but that doesn't really matter if we're dead, eh? The only way for anything to truly understand the human's concept of "I Love You" is to be a human. There's no other way.

It doesn't really make any sense to try to make android to understand the concept of human emotion if we still can't truly understand dog's nature even though the dogs have been cohabiting with humans for several thousands years. and the only way to understand the dog's nature is to be a dog. :)

What about tears, hmm???

here's a marker for you to draw tears on robot's face

Prostitution is illegal(except in backwards Nevada) and the whores are bacteria/virus factories. Many whores are also drug addicts, scammers and thieves. I have no use for whores in any way whatsoever.

There are many other places in the United States where it is legal.

And I'm willing to bet a Franklin that you've touched a prostitute not knowing it.

I've had a woman in the sack who works as a full time prostitute. I just didn't know it at the time.

I'm clean. No issues there, so..

Don't know what that means? Well, you got a boyfriend(or girlfriend) and do you ever plan to have a robot?

I have 2 questions;

As you know, it is in our human's nature to crave the physical touching, intimacy, foreplay and all that kind of thing. Do you really believe that a robo-girl would be able to satisfy you completely than what a live human female can do to you?

Let's say, If you had this robo-girl for 10 years; Do you ever think you'd get bored with it and crave for something more to come out of it as compared as to a live human female?

I have no luck in finding a girlfriend, so I would have nothing to compare the robogirl to. When technology can design a robot who's likeness can fool humans, does it matter anymore if your man or woman is human or not if you can't tell? Besides, a robot can do everything your way.

Ill upgrade way before 10 years with a newer, better model and she can look different than my old model as well. People get bored with other people for the matter. Most relationships only last a few months, even marriages lose their spark in a couple years.

actually - it's in our human's nature to SOCIALIZE by whatever the means. Look at some of us - we do not go out due to whatever the reason we have - psychological/medical/etc... and yet we are fine with online interaction like AD or even pen pal via good ole' fashioned paper & pen!

handful of people are not interested in sex and/or physical intimacy (hugging, kissing, holding hands, etc) but prefer an intellectual stimulation. If we have a robo-dog or robo-girl or a robo-computer that can have an intellectual conversation with us... that's really something to think about.

My social life is done online. I can't cuddle though unless she visits me. Ive had a bunch of women over the years say they would visit me but never did for one reason or another. I am interested in the romance aspects, especially cuddling.

:hmm:

That's what the internet is for.

I have a robot that can detect if you are lying or not. It's called Mr. Polygraph.

no, he is telling the truth. Our son came home one of the latest book on Robots and technologies. Sensors help Robots detect things. These robots are not human robots that you see. They look more like machines (think Roomba vaccum). All they have to do is gather all these robots that can do all kinds of things and form a human-like robot.

The only difference is that programmers have to program human emotions in robots (so they can express and react like humans.. such as happy or hurt). These robots can't really form emotions on their own.

And I don't think they gave up yet.

never said they gave up. just that they've been trying since 80's and still trying. All I can say that it is futile because it's impossible. If we cannot make chimpanzee or Koko (the gorilla who can do sign language) to be like human, then how we can expect to program a robot to be like human? it's impossible.

Chimpanzee is born to be a chimpanzee, act like chimpanzee, live like chimpanzee, think like chimpanzee. and robot is born to be a robot, act like robot, live like robot, think like robot. period.

lol I didn't say he's lying. I guess you missed my sarcasm :)

IMO, I personally think robot/human relationship is pretty phony and sick. Besides, I highly doubt robots will understand humans better. Human/human relationship is more changeling and more experience, the best pairing one. :)

Human/human is work.

dog/dog is work.

horse/horse is work.

robot/robot is work? Yes.

Human/animal is fail. (You suck it's pussy and does animal tell you, "I love you"? O_o)

Cat/dog is fail.

Horse/rabbit is fail.

Human/robot is fail? Yes, more likely.

</opinion> ^^; Peace.

Karissa Human/animal is bestiality and its sickening!

Phony? I might agree there. Sick? How so, especially if for nonsexual purposes? You can program or "train" the robot to understand you. Not everyone has luck finding another human to be in a relationship, I for one don't.

How old are you?

im 27 and have already tried dating websites. 90% don't even respond to emails. Those women get like 20 emails a day from men, I can't compete with that. Also, I won't date just any woman, I have requirements/standards.

As ive said before, I think robots(that usually look just like humans) will be immensely popular for all kinds of relationships. Some people will have relationships with only humans, others only robots and others with both. Robots will be great for nerds like me without luck finding a human. But there's advantages to robots anyway as ive also mentioned.

If the robot has a nice banana down there, sure!

I kid!!!

Humans Marrying Robots? A Q&A with David Levy: Scientific American

Will you one day marry a robot? - Technology Trends

10 Reasons I'd Rather Marry a Robot

10 reasons to marry a robot. Lots of good comments.

Humans will love, marry robots by 2050 - Network World

Yes, Levy was quick to say that humans will have sexual relationships with robots, perhaps within five years -- sooner than most might think. Levy also estimated that robots will be able to have interesting conversations -- not yet at the level of a college graduate but enjoyable -- within 15 years. In 20 or 30 years, however, he expects them to carry on sophisticated conversations.
