Hey, didnt want to go off topic in the other thread so thought why not discuss about the tolls and motorways here.

Since I said in the other thread, in my hometown, we dont have tolls for the roads, but I am one of the freuqent visitors to Sydney where there is plenty of tolls to pay for, and the etag is what I have and similar to this below

Just a bit different to that, which that is an older model. But the one I have doesn't have the 'e-tag' logo on it anymore.

These are the tolls we have in Sydney.

This is the ED1 toll station on the right side, before entering to SHB or the Harbour tunnel

This is the electronic entry to the M7 -- they are cashless.. no cash booths available. Must have etag there though :mad2:

I have exactly similar EZ-Pass toll booth like the 2nd pictures on NJ Turnpikes. It's called "EZ Express Lane" or something. It is truly a great time saver but I DESPISE an idiot who backed up on that road to get to another toll booth on right side because he does not have EZ Pass. What a moron... There were PLENTY of warnings before EZ Pass. I fail to understand why that idiot do not see it beforehand. If you go thru EZ Pass w/o tag... I think the fine is $30 but why would an idiot risk getting caught for going backward on highway? it's considered as "Moving Against Traffic" violation... and that fines is even HIGHER! (about $100 + 2 points)

Commuting cost in here is definitely not cheap. I commuted to my college (from North NJ to Central NJ) 1 hr each. I think my commuting cost was about $200 a month.

You have a really nice electronic tag. Mine's just an ugly thing.

Yeah, the etag I have has been useful, the people who actually lives in Sydney mostly spend $200 a month but for me it is around $40 everytime it runs out. The pet peeve I have is the admin fee if the tag is not used for 6 months will be charged with a $6 admin fee, :mad2: It depends on how much I travel there to Sydney, I enjoy driving up there, despite the flight via plane is only a boring 45 minute flight, but using the car is a good option to get around in Sydney.

I was lucky enough when I went on the M7 in my friend's car, which is new, and I forgotten to bring my tag which I left in my car in Canberra. And I told myself 'fuck it' I can risk anything, which they took an photo of the registeration number plate where it has the details to post the costs and all, but fortunately, didnt get anything, so free pass... nice.

The system there is sometimes useless. Few months back, the prices went up when the prices and food prices went up -- a lot of communtors were :mad2: about it, since it was ripping everyone off.. the money they collect are spent on roads :roll:

What can we tell the difference with these tolls?
 
We have what Jiro have. Its called EZ pass as well. Love it...save time and it's quick! Not worry about go to the bank to get cash!
 
tolls are truly :mad2: It's a traffic starter. NJ announced unofficial plan of abolishing all tolls in NJ in the next 10-15 years. Who knows?
 
What is the point having them in the first place? What are the monies going to?

same as yours - "it goes to road" :roll: What's extremely annoying is that NJ Turnpike has too many "road maintenance"... causing half of road to be closed... causing it to have a long traffic jam. btw - this toll system brings in millions of dollars of revenue for NJ

They seriously need to build it like German.
 
I wasn't surprised that these motorway tunnels that Perth have (western Australia) doesn't have tolls! But it is a bit unfair for the others such in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane (yes, they have tolls) have tolls, and Perth don't :roll:

Too much maintainece isn't good for the traffic. Sydney are trying to avoid them by doing it during the night. There is a new rule in the toll system in Sydney, if you use it and you get the money back at the tax return time :roll:

True and I agree with you. Jiro, is there tolls all over in USA, or just the major cities?
 
No tolls in Minnesota yet. The Chicago, Illinois area has tolls and the roads are still pathetic after all these years. Parts of Indiana and Pennsylvania have tolls, still, pathetic. Just pays salaries for lazy people.

usually in major metro areas. California does not have it as it has the most serious traffic jam problem.

Like the crazy LA motorway which looks similar to our M7 in Sydney and the mini one GDE in Canberra which just opened for the public last may
 
E-ZPass will be available to Ohio Turnpike customers in the fourth quarter of 2009. I always cash tolls in Pennsylvania tolls which having E-ZPass. I dont need to pay monthly charge for it.
 
I think no toll roads in Iowa yet. Thank goodness.
 
Im sure there is a few of these tolls in NY, is that right, LT?

The M7 EZPass booth looks great. Never saw a road with glass walls!

Anyways good thing is that Tennessee doesnt have any toll roads anywhere.
 
Just north part of NY only....from Albany to Buffalo close to PA Boarder, that's where it end of toll. And bridge from Buffalo to Grand island (only cute 75 cents I think) to go across (just once) but from Grand island to Buffalo, no toll. Weird. Mass and PA have tolls as well. Vermont, NH and Maine I don't think they have tolls. It's pain in ass anyway!

Oh yea now I remember... bridges, you pay some fees. One of bridge we went on recent summer, we paid 12 bucks!!! :shock: that was on Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Virginia Beach, VA. Anyway sorry for off topic on bridges. :lol: I know some states does charge a fee for bridges.

Fee for bridges are the same as tolls in a similar way so talk about fees on anything related to motorways are cool :cool2:
