Jiro: Discussing travels and costs on motorways

True and I agree with you. Jiro, is there tolls all over in USA, or just the major cities?

No tolls in most of the metro area, except on Tacoma Narrows Bridge and the HOT lanes on SR 167 that's all.

Fee for bridges are the same as tolls in a similar way so talk about fees on anything related to motorways are cool :cool2:

it's same thing. it's a toll for bridge, not fee. NYC and the surrounding have way too many tolls... :mad2:

True, what is the necessarity for bridges to collect the coins lying around? :hmm:

over millions of cars and trucks pass thru every bridges in NYC and the surrounding daily. They have to perform routine maintenances everyday, non-stop. we don't see them because they're inside the bridge, rust-proofing, tightening bolts, etc. Can you imagine the stress and wear n' tears on bridges?

The M7 EZPass booth looks great. Never saw a road with glass walls!

Anyways good thing is that Tennessee doesnt have any toll roads anywhere.
Don't know if you are aware that Governor Phil Bredesen favours toll roads in Tennessee. I don't know how far they have talked about it.

This is the toll at Ga 400 in the northern part of Atlanta. It is nightmare driving on Ga 400 during rush hours (4:30A-10A and 3P-7P). I no longer have to drive anywhere on and near Ga 400 - I certainly don't miss driving on it.

Georgia is/was seriously considering to expand tolls in the Atlanta area and elsewhere in Georgia. I believe they have been funded to study whether it would be feasable to have toll roads.

There were talks of expanding parts of I-75 (freeway/motorway) in suburban Atlanta into a 24-lane freeway that would include toll lanes strictly for truckers and commuters. I can't seem to find the articles on the Internet at the moment.

*shrugs* have fun chatting with Jiro...I leave this thread alone. goodnight folks

makes sense. that's the only way to pay for bridge maintenance. remember the scary report by DOT (i think) about our failing road infrastructure in USA in the wake of bridge collapses (minnesota, wasn't it?). I think the total repair cost is over a billion dollars... :eek3:

Now, Jiro... are you exaggerating on that part a bit?

Was that bridge old, yes?

lot of bridges in America are old anyway but that bridge was not maintained properly. They used wrong bolts and stuff. I think several people went to jail.

I think the report said it cost less than $300 million to rebuild the bridge, not sure. I am pretty sure it wasn't more than $500 million, though. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge here in Washington state, the second bridge built next to the old bridge cost $735 million to build. It's a suspension bridge similar to Golden Gate or Venzensta Narrows in New York City. That is why we have tolls to pay for the bridge construction cost plus mantience.

there you go but... it does not make sense to charge so high like $8 toll for GWB. :mad2: I don't know why DOT is not aggressively renovating the area to be more mass-transit friendly.

$8 toll for that bridge in NYC? You're kidding? I bet the people rater take the subway instead. :giggle:

That is a good reason to pay to use the bridge but what about the motorways that doesn't have bridges? :mad2:

$8 toll for the Minneapolis I-35 bridge?! You're kidding right?

GWB = George Washington Bridge... it's the major major major bridge (and you've probably see it in many movies). It's the bridge between NJ-NYC.
