Jiro: Discussing travels and costs on motorways

What price would you guys perfer instead of $7?

what Sequoia said. However - I want it to be COMMUTER-FRIENDLY. For ie, the motorcycle/scooter costs $6-7 for tolls.... WTF?? It should be $2!! It was increased from $4

Wow, thanks for the link, Jiro. I didn't realise THAT many cars pass through the bridges daily.

it's a typical statistic of "bloodline" bridge. GWB and Lincoln Tunnel are basically the bloodline of NJ-NYC.... that's how NYC replenishes itself... they need supplies coming from NJ and vice versa. We have the major shipping ports - Port of Newark and others. (that's why we have cheaper gas compared to other states)

Central NJ area = Newark + major airport + major industrial zone. NYC's a very hungry beast...

Golden Gate Bridge Facts - Traffic

* Average crossings: About 40 million per year, counting both north- and southbound crossings, compared to 33 million crossing the first year it was open.
* Fewest crossings: January, 1982, during a storm which closed U. S. 101 north of the bridge. On January 6, only 3,921 southbound vehicles passed the toll gates.
* Most crossings: October 17, 1989, after the Loma Prieta earthquake, when Bay Bridge was closed. 162,414 vehicles (counting those going both directions) crossed the bridge that day.
* Total crossings: Through October 30, 2002, the Golden Gate Bridge Highway District says 1,754,094,967 vehicles crossed the bridge.

I'm actually very passionate about traffic system. I don't know why but it fascinates me. I would love to work for NHTSA or NTSB.... any of those agency/private contractor that specializes in traffic. I'm all about traffic efficiency, high speed, and road safety. Yes I want speed limit of like 100+ mph as well!

Excellent road system = people will start living farther away = less crowdy metro-area.

Mini trains....what do you mean by that?

it's one of those um..... "Light Rail" train.

Ohhh lol....that's what we are going to have here in Seattle on July 2009 from Sea-tac Airport to downtown Seattle. That picture is a diesel powered light rail train. Notice there is no overhead power line to conduct electricity to power the trains?

Good observation. I didn't realize that. in here - it's powered by electricity. Funny thing is - that light rail train is from NJ as well (see the logo on front?)... but in south. I suppose it's probably diesel-powered. :dunno:

That bridge ONLY has 5 lanes....the median doesn't exist, so it moves left n right depending on how much traffic going north and southbound. It has special cones in the middle of the highway, northbound could be 3 lanes and southbound could be 2 lanes.

Yeah, that's probably the extension of the new line.

Oooooh, these magazines seems interesting

I've been a subscriber of Popular Mechanics and Popular Science for about.... 10+ years. Love every single issue. :cool2:

Does some of the stories in the magazine plan to come in the realility someday, si?

Sadly, nope. Many of them never came to reality to this time of the decade or so. It's just that many of the technology isn't feasible.
