Thyroid Disorders

You left that part out which puzzled me because now you said you heard it from someone else. Sounds like this person has another set of problem and that should get checked out as well.

Actually, it was from my mother's information. She never has any problem with her health. She attended many different health lectures a lot. I could go with her to some lectures, but it depends on what subject. A hospital service pays an interpreter which cost 400 dollars that would provide us as long as three people or more to show up there with two weeks advance. There were about 40 hearing people at the lecture, and I had one deaf to join with me so that the hospital accepted to pay the service. We had another lecture my friend did not show up, and the hospital agent was pissed off. It was not my fault.

Please forgive me for not saying sorry to hear that you all have thyroid problems. I was so exhausted and tired from work, run some errands and help elderly people, etc... I was not thinking clearly. I apologize!
I hope the medications help you. The meds help me, too but I am so concerned about my weight, I keep gaining from eating toooo much... and it's hard for me to lose my weight.. and that my thyroid level was very low. The questions are : Is Levoxyl causing me eating and gaining weight? (My PCP and the Endocrinologist both denied that it didn't cause me to eat too much and gain...) what will happen to me if my thyroid level is low again? Will I die from it? No one explained this to me. I should have asked the Endocrinologist, whom I saw last week about this but I didn't. Too many things on my mind.
I wish I don't have a thyroid problem, I hate having a scar on my neck, which show very clearly, etc. I keep asking why I have this, not my family. I was not happy about this.
Thanks for posting the links, Webexplorer. I find this interesting.
Thanks again.

I see what you mean about the food. The problem is that many doctors have their own opinion what they believe in. I really can't say to you, but it is my best judgment that many doctors do not care as long as their patients are alive that matter to them.

The food that you are talking about is a food addictive because of the food processing especially sugar. If you see the ingredients on the package, in case the first ingredient word is sugar, then it's bad. If the sugar is "last" or bottom of the ingredients which is good. Again, the top list of sugar has the large amount. The small amount of sugar is at the bottom of the ingredients. This is how the food companies trick you.

I wrote down some information on Phillips' blog a few years ago, but it is a sort of not related to thyroid. You will get some idea what it is all about. Here is the link: http://www.alldeaf.com/blogs/phillips/37-summer-2008-ader-weight-loss-support-group.html

Smithr, what do you mean forgive us? We didn't do anything wrong. Even though we have some health issues, but we are fine and not dying from it. It's nice you care, but don't be sad, okay? :cool2:

Webexplorer, I am done reading this link. Thanks.. I don't like to drink coffee, just white/green tea (I don't add sugar and milk, I prefer plain tea... )
I have admitted that I know that my weakness is that I eat a lot of pasta, bread and pizza, etc because I am an Italian. I should have eaten a lot of veggies, salads and fruits instead.. and also, I must exercise a lot, which I didn't because I get easily so tired when I get home from work, very stressful job. I am thinking of joining Planet fitness. I will contact them this weekend.

Thyroid Problems & Iodine Deficiency

Thyroid issues, overactive and underactive, affect so many body functions that when the thyroid isn't working well, the whole body is just plain messed up and life can become messed up, too. Weight-gain makes most of us feel even more crappy than we want to be, but the tiredness, the emotional roller coaster, the brain just doesn't want to work the way we want it to...it's not fun!

It's a good idea to see your doctor and work with him or her to get your thyroid back on track. But it is also an excellent idea to make sure that your doctor is considering the possibility that your thyroid issues could be due to the iodine deficiency that about 90% of our population suffers from. The thyroid gland needs iodine!! so does every cell in your body! Iodized salt, IF you are using it, provides enough iodine to prevent goiter, but that quantity is a mere tip of the iceberg of iodine that your body requires for optimal functioning. If your thyroid is complaining because it is not getting enough iodine, it's going to start to act up (stress and age increase the thyroid's demand for iodine, so it may have been able to function on the teeny bits of iodine it could get last year, but you have been consuming its toxic halide cousins, bromine/bromide, chlorine, fluoride/fluorine, and perchlorates that move in in iodine's absence and poison your thyroid and body, your thyroid just can't keep up anymore and it gets out of whack!). Before you agree to let your doctor kill your malfunctioning thyroid gland with radioactive iodine (a TOXIC form of iodine) or cut it out, make sure that you aren't just eliminating it when a simple supply of inorganic, nonradioactive iodine, such as that found in Lugol's solution or the solid, standardized form of Lugol's, Iodoral, in amounts sufficient to bring your body's stores of iodine up to sufficient levels, could let your thyroid gland function as it was designed to function. You may even discover, after bringing your iodine levels up to where they should be, that the rest of your body begins to function better as well.

Your thyroid gland has the greatest demand for iodine and stores the most. but after the thyroid gland has its iodine, the breast tissue and the ovaries and prostate have their own demands for iodine. Actually, every cell in your body needs iodine for normal growth and development. Without iodine, cell growth can get messed up. Cells develop without their normal life cycle, they can keep growing and growing, it can become a regular mad house party without any rules or curfews. Normal cells all have a curfew or a preset life expectancy. When the cell has reached that limit, it dies, making room for other cells. Cells deficient in iodine can grow wild...that's what tumors and cancer are--cells gone wild without limits. Iodine in the form of Lugol's solution has been used by the medical community since the late 1800's as a cure for many, many ailments---that is until a couple of researchers after WWII erroneously reported false, unsupported results on a rat study that were then disastrously interpolated to humans, and iodine became an avoided treatment. Iodine had been successfully used to treat both hyper- and hypothyroidism prior to that bad study. Iodine was successfully treating asthma. Today, iodine is used to treat fibrocystic breast disease. Iodine is used to treat cardiac arrhythmia. But, there is a difference between the inorganic, nonradioactive iodine/iodide found in Lugol's solution and Iodoral and the synthetic iodine compounds sold by pharmaceutical companies. The inorganic, nonradioactive form is the purest form needed by your thyroid, breasts, ovaries, prostate, and whole body and is not toxic, even at levels several hundreds or even thousands times greater that the current RDA. The synthetic iodine containing compounds, patentable by pharmaceutical companies and prescribed by physicians, contain other substances that are TOXIC and may fix some problems, but not without creating others with their toxicity.

There are treatments for thyroid problems that do not always require the destruction of the thyroid gland which is only showing the symptoms of the underlying problem, but may not be the cause of the problem itself. Check out the possibility of an iodine deficiency before destroying your thyroid. There is an great deal of information growing out there on the benefits of orthoiodosupplementation and numerous supporting studies. A couple of good starting points are Dr. David Brownstein's website and the Optimox website.

Do your research before you let anyone destroy your ailing thyroid. Eliminating the symptom is not eliminating the problem. Get to the problem and your whole body will thank you!

I'm waiting to hear the result of my blood test this week to see if I have thyroid disorder or not.

what made doctor thinks you might have it? Just curious since you took blood test.

I requested for it cuz my good friend told me to try it out. It doesn't hurt to check it out as well (except for a little painful prick in my arm :mad2: )

My long-time insomnia, eczema, and some little things may be the result of thyroid disorder. maybe. maybe not. If I'm tested negative for thyroid disorder, then I'm off to this specialist for sleep study.

not really eczema but a mild version of it. I get dry skin... damn sensitive skin. and no i do not have any allergy so that's why i requested for thyroid screening. It may be the culprit. :dunno:

Cool. My son has eczema too. I am trying to find out why he has it. He has a mild asthma. He has been seeing allergy tests and got nothing result but very very mild. i can't remember what kind of allergy.

anywayyy GOOD LUCK with your tests. Hope it isn't nothing serious and doctor would be able to find out what to do with your insomnia.

yea If not an allergy, skin may be "irritated" to certain chemicals in fabric, food, drinks, lotion, etc. These days..... many products we come in contact with have thousand of chemicals on it..... :(
