High Frequencies and Dizziness

tomorrow after i see my audi and the dizziness specialist i'm going to walgreen's to pick up some dayquil and nightquil for my cold. i also plan to purchase a humidifier to help with my congestion. my nose is so stuffed up i can hardly breathe right now. the good news though is that i don't have a dry cough, so i don't think i have an upper respiratory tract infection.
Just a thought, but you might want to stick with dayquil since you have prescription sleep aid? Or at least check with the doctor. If the congestion moves to your chest, I would recommend Mucinex, and you can get that over the counter or, Mucinex DM, still otc but you have to sign for it. That is good news about no upper respiratory tract infection. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way.

you're exactly right, et. i'm currently taking trazodone as a sleep med and that could have serious interactions with nightquil. when i see my psychiatrist next week i plan to ask him what kind of decongestant i can safely take with my meds. by the way, thanks for the recommndation of mucinex and mucinex dm. i'll definitely look into those if any chest congestion develops.

It can get tricky when you have several prescriptions to juggle. I hope there is an alternative that is safe for you to use.
You are very welcome. I use them both, as needed and they do help me a great deal. I, too, have allergies/sinus trouble. My sinuses drain constantly all year round and the Mucinex really does help me. I alternate between floniase and zyrtec but that doesn't help with the mucous. Yuck!

hi dreama,

my landlord was able to increase the sensitivity level on my processors to the point where i am able to hear environmental sounds, so i am no longer in complete silence.

i'm still experiencing dizziness, but not to the same extent that i would if i were wearing my processors at full volume (i.e. numerical value of 12).

my left hand is still in a great deal of pain, but my physical therapist told me that she noticed an increased range of motion in it yesterday which is definitely a good sign. while this doesn't mean my severe cts will ever go away without the help of surgery, it does mean there has been some improvement and if truth be told, i will gladly take "some improvement" over "no improvement" at all.

I'm glad their is some improvement with your cts. Hope you get more improvement.

Also sorry to hear about dizziness. Hope that is all sorted out soon.

(hugs)

thanks, dreama.

i have absolutely no idea what the dizziness specialist is going to do tomorrow. hopefully i won't have to take any meds though because i'm on enough as it is.
<hugs back>

something else i've noticed is that the batteries in my ci's are dying alot faster than normal, but i have no idea why.

Are they getting old? I know that rechargables will eventually just stop recharging and you will have to buy new ones.

Do you have a new MAP?

no, the batteries are new and have an expiration date of august, 2011.

i do not have a new map at this time, but i assume i will be receiving one when i see my audi tomorrow. i haven't had a new map since april.

Aaaww.. Thanks for lovely hug that was very sweet of u, Hear Again. Good for u & keep up lots of fluid. Don't forget to buy kleenex box, too. <hugs> T'care.

How are you today?,

I have a question to ask, does your bloke live with you or do you have a assistant? (if you have one that helps with cooking etc?? Kudos to you if you are doing it solo!) would they be able to adjust your CI's for you?

Lots of hugs for today.

hi charlotte,

i have a bad headache this morning, but that's because of some stress i've been under lately.

my boyfriend does not live with me. i do all of the cooking (and other errands) by myself.

thanks for the hugs! hugs back!

The battery consumption is probably an important piece to this as well. I notice that when I use my CI at louder volumes and am around more noise, the consumption is faster than if I'm in quiet room and have lower volume settings. I've thought this could be due to the electrode activity being higher. I've never read anywhere or heard from anyone that a program can get corupted and for both CI's, I wouldn't think that is to likely. Keep looking for clues. Post what you observe. It may help others as well. I'll ask my audi on Friday more so if the electrical path can change over time or with illnesses.

Has your Audi ever told you how long the batteries should last. My rechargable according to my current settings and mapping should be lasting 11 and 12 hours. For some reason I'm getting more than 17 hours. I noticed a considerable improvement when I was upgraded from the tan bodied battery to the ones with a white body. The end cover is still the tan color though.

Hope your able to find some relief soon.
Steve

steve,

i use zenipower batteries, but have been very dissappointed with their overall life span. i only receive 3 days of power compared to 5 days with power one implant plus. my audi recommended that i use the latter due to the fact that my ci's use strong maps, but i wanted to see if there was any difference between the zenipower's and the power one implant plus batteries. from now on, i think i'll spend a little extra money for longer battery life because it's so frustrating having to change batteries every 3 days -- or 2 days if i'm using my 3g processors. let me know what your audi says about the electrical path being changed over time and/or by illness. thanks. if i remember to, i'll ask my audi the same question when i see her later today.

Hear again, I use Power one Implant plus and do average 5 days before batteries dies. As they are provided by the centre i haven't tried other batteries. I use my CI long hours and around noisy places.
Why don't you try few packets of batteries to see if they made any difference before forking out for alot of batteries? (if you were nearer i would be happy to send mine)

I do admire you for your bravery in cooking solo without being able to see.

Wow. 5 days on disposable. I get 17 hours on rechargeables and between 30-40 hours on disposable (just over 2 days).

I guess I'm a power hog. haha.

I am running pretty loud programs and 1800 speed. The very interesting part is my new 2400 speed supposedly has longer battery life. Not sure how the electrode strategy changes the power consumption but I'll be asking for more information on Friday.

I also have not listened to 2400 for any length of time yet to see if I can notice any difference. I'll be trying that later today.

Very interesting.

BTW, I did try some disposable batteries that were included free from a company that I ordered by last Power One batteries from. These samples lasted longer than the Power One. I'll be looking for the brand name. I have heard that different batteries perform differently based on discharge rates so basically, if you have a fast discharge rate, one battery may work better than for someone who has a slow discharge rate if that makes any sence.

Steve

Steve, can you list the speeds, Is that's 500, 900, 1800, 2400 and 3500 correct?

I think I am 1800 or something But definely within the 1000's.

My batteries do drain quicker if i am using Ipod.

hi everyone,

i just got back from my appointment.

my audi gave me a hearing test to determine which frequencies were causing dizziness. she did the same thing afterward in which she played tones from lowest to highest. most of the low tones were painfully loud, but the high frequencies were loud and caused dizziness. she ended up turning off 6 high frequency electrodes on my left ci and 6 high frequency electrodes on my right ci for a total of 12 electrodes.

i'm no longer experiencing any dizziness and speech sounds better than it has in a long time.

the only exception is music. music sounds like it is being played through a small, tinny am transistor radio and i'm hearing volume fluctuations depending on what frequency i am hearing. for example, a song could start off sounding very soft and then suddenly get very loud and then soft again.

my audi plans to talk to my ci surgeon to find out why this is happening. she said it's unusual that something like this would happen after me having my ci's for as long as i have.

if my audi and ci surgeon can figure out why this happened, they will let me know.

right now i'm just happy because i'm no longer dizzy. music sounds like crap, but that's okay just as long as i'm able to understand speech.

Hi hear again.

I am glad that you have managed to sort the problem with your CI and dizziness out.

So now you can hear and not feel dizzy. that is good.

(hugs)
