Do we need more Deaf Psychologists? Why or why not?

Than you Nic for the thoughtful ways of looking at all this. I like the idea and concept of math in that I'm aware of the importance and validity of it in every day life that we take for granted. Here is what I have so far regarding pro and cons for both fields. Psychology ~Pro~ Natural...

Do we need more Deaf Psychologists? Why or why not?

Doesn't have to be in the states for the Masters degree but I have to keep in mind that other countries' traditions and culture ways of handling behaviors have a high chance of not being the same as in America. Otherwise, I'm opened to it. Got any insights about why you suggested the question?

Do we need more Deaf Psychologists? Why or why not?

Thanks for the replies so far! Derek, I could understand your view. One thing I've been told is that once a person obtains a masters degree in psychology, they are able to go ahead and take the license test to get the rights to counsel and/or diagnosis the clients among other things, boosting...

Do we need more Deaf Psychologists? Why or why not?

I am at a cross road where I could either start a new path into Engineering (to which I have no Math background per se but love science just as much as I love the science of human behaviors) or go for a Masters in Psychology. I currently have a Community Psychology degree which I consider to be...

To Cochlear Implant or to re-Hearing Aid; know thyself what you want, my Deaf ears?

It was only after the death of my analog hearing aid this year as well as the sudden loss of certain sound waves in my left ear that had prompted me to seriously ask myself such a question as this: will I be ok with a cochlear implant? A little background: I was born hearing but at 18 months...

    help me out?

Screw this. Ally Bird, I will do the interview with you and answer any questions you wish no matter how "insensitive" it might be. I rather further the population's knowledge about Deaf folks rather than rant on them for their presumed blissful ignorance. Don't worry Ally, I won't bite and I...

searching for a deaf or hard of hearing woman for serious relationship

So...we have a 13 year old "marriage minded" boy that wants to play house with a lady? Yeah, okay. I can play along with that. I'm a woman, now go mow the lawn and rake the leaves for me while I go BBQ a steak for myself while watching football.

    Would you kiss her?

Don't need a long tongue. Just put some caramel into your mouth and start moving it around with your tongue. Voila! Stronger tongue muscles that women will swoon over.

    anyone remembered Kristen Henson??

The ghetto language is not exclusive to a select few people/group, anyone can join in but there will be prices to pay whether it comes from erroneous use or used in a disrespecting fashion or any such that can provoke confrontations. Same thing goes for Sign Language, do it the right way and get...

i am new here and need help

It's a fee of enrollment and processing the paperwork, etc. It also helps screen out those that are willing to be committed to a college education and remove those that just wants to enroll and pile up papers upon papers onto the staffs' work pile and still end up not enrolling because there is...

    anyone remembered Kristen Henson??

If sign language was for everyone (outside of gesturing which is not a language), then the world would have used the entity of it all in a fully fleshed out language for thousands of years thus registering the spoken language as never the sole language but since that is not the case (as well as...

    What's your superpower?

Turn invisibility on and off at will for many useful reasons. 1. can have as much money as I want to take 2. go into places traditionally not allowed such as off limited areas 3. be able to stay outside the laws 4. be free to see the world in anyway I see fit

    anyone remembered Kristen Henson??

Not disconnected at all. Like dereksbicycles said above me, that person is taking advantage of the fact that a lot of Hearing people do not know the cultural aspects of how things are being said, thus can cause a potential confrontation with other Deaf people out there that think it was rather...

What are you thinking about? Part VI

Correct, that would be an ideal quote in reflection of "Whatdidyousay!" underestimating me because I am careful on not underestimating others but that does not mean that opponents are always deep thinkers.

What are you thinking about? Part VI

Naw, it's based off experience of 30+ years. Example of closed minded comments: "...as you had already made up your mind that we're that dumb slow thinkers." which is a reflection of not seeing what or why the other person is saying what they said so you decided to put words into my mouth that...

    Practicing ASL

Best way to learn ASL (Other than actual schooling) is to go to deaf events of all kinds and get "overwhelmed" but that's an excellent way to fast track to higher ASL skills, especially when it covers the cultural aspects of ASL as opposed to just ASL alone.
