Oh, boy, do I have a story for you all...

My mother and stepfather took my sisters and me to a dude ranch in 1998. You know, one of those nice places where you can ride as much as you like, they feed you like you’re royalty and everywhere you go, they tip their hats and say, “Howdy.” Just like real live cowboys and cowgirls. It was a nice place, located upstate, New York.

Well, out of the three sisters, I’m the most adventurous. I don’t like the boring old “walk” mode when I go horseback riding. No, I have to gallop…or trot at the very least! Anyhow…my youngest sister decided that she, too, wanted to gallop. She was only about 10 years old, and kind of small for her age, so they were a little worried. However, they did agree to take us three girls out for a test ride. This was a mistake…and this is why.

We got onto our horses…the wrangler first, then me, then the middle sister, then my baby sister. Off into the woods we went, and through it to the clearing, where we were ready to begin our “run.” The wrangler signaled, we began to gallop, and it went well. We slowed to a walk. That was when things went bad.

A deer, which I never even saw in the first place, came out of the woods, startling my middle sister’s horse. He reared up, throwing her off. She landed on her ass onto the ground. Her horse decided that he’d had it and started walking in the opposite direction. I guess I was feeling concerned that the ranch would “lose” their horse, so I turned my horse around and kicked him in the sides, causing him to “follow” my middle sister’s horse.

What happened though, was this. My baby sister’s horse thought that we were playing “Follow the Leader” or “Race Ya Back To The Barn,” and took off running…and my sister was in no way prepared. I heard her screaming and then her horse zoomed right past mine and disappeared into the woods ahead of us. I said to myself, “Oh, SHIT!” and abandoned the middle sister’s horse. To hell with him, the baby needed my help since the wrangler was still tending to my middle sister…it was up to ME to help her.

So I tried to remember all the cowboy movies I had seen. My horse cooperated and took off into the woods after baby sister and her daredevil horse. My poor little sister’s head was bobbing up and down, her body was flying around in all directions and she was holding onto the saddle horn for dear LIFE.

“PULL BACK ON THE REINS!!!” I was screaming at her from behind. “CHRISTINA! PULL BACK ON THE REINS! THAT WILL MAKE HIM STOP!!!”

“STACY!!!!” She looked back at me, “HELP ME!!!”

“PULL BACK!!!”

I don’t know if she couldn’t hear me or she was too terrified to try. But ahh…she did end up being thrown off the horse’s back…and she landed in a pile of shrubbery. Her highly disobedient horse kept right on going, I guess he was smelling the hay back over at the barns. But, OH, SHIT!!!! My horse decides that he was hungry too. Lucky for me and for my baby sister, he did see her lying in the middle of the path…and he JUMPED OVER HER. I think I saw her life flash before her (and my) eyes at that moment. Finally, when he had passed her, I yanked back on the reins, bringing my horse to a stop.

I dismounted and dragged the horse over to where she was lying on the ground. She was holding her shoulder…it was broken, but hey, thank goodness nothing more serious had happened!!! It COULD have been a lot worse!! Long story short, my parents blamed the ranch for not having enough wranglers on the path, especially with beginner-level riders…

…and the ranch offered me a job…LOL. I think I impressed them somehow??? LMAOOO.

My sister’s fine. She healed nicely.

WHOA!!!! she is lucky!!! SHEESHH! :eek2:

Oh my dear Malyosich... I´m glad to hear that your sister is okay...

Here is my story which I already told my story at other forum... I copied there to here....

Greece
Paohna (Pahoa?) is the village approx 15 km away from Athens where we stayed is the most horrible. The Greek bullied homeless dogs & cats front of us. Few Tourists were furious & hitted them back. We went to hill for a walk & found dead dog with full blood in the plastic. Some of Tourist also saw dead cat, kitten, puppies etc in teh plastic, too. The Greek disgusted that way we (tourist) fed the homeless pets. We all ignored their nasty remark. The pets came to greet us because they know we brought those foods for them everyday.
I felt that the hotel is not right place to welcome the tourist but Athens.
We visited the kind of temples, one named Poseidon. We were on the temple of Poseidon to see the beautiful views.
The Athens is a large city with unfriendly atmospheres...
We sailed to 3 different islands called Hydra, Poros & Aegina with boat for 2 days trip. I must say that islands are much better than Athens. Lovely & friendly atmosphere.
It MUST be islands when we want to go Greece again.

Other story....

Disneyland Paris
We drove to there with car last year. One day after arrival, my son had an accident. His arm is fractured & bit scratch on his face by fall down. None of them speak German at Red Cross (First Aid) but English. A lady who work for Disneyland speak only German & translate for us. She accomplanied my son & me to hospital with French driver to leave my hubby & 2nd son at park. That French driver drove is real crazy & senseless!!! He drove real faster like if he want to kill himself on the narrow road like car race which it supposed for 30km speed - careful for the kids to play etc. It scared me but my son :P He swear at French languages to other drivers because they should move their car for us to drive to there but they sear back to us. I noticed that French drivers are very impatience... real faster like car race.. Oh my god, I will NEVER on French car again....!!!
Anyway we waited for 4 hours at waiting room with staring french people.. The hospital is tooo horrible... We can see many injured people lied at the hallway front of us, also just from operated...etc. blood etc.. It´s not well care hospital. I asked lady about this. She told me that there´re short staff there, that´s why they have to keep watch out by Receiption at Hallway until they went back their room...

:laugh2: :laugh2: ...Malfoyish...I feel soo bad for your little sister, poor girl...give her a hug from me, she needs that!....What a cowgirl you are!!...Have you ever thought of making a western movie?.. :giggle:

aww Liebling, I am truly sorry to hear that you had a horrible experiences during your summer vacation..... I surly hope the next vacation will be the blast as ever!... :fingersx:

Thanks for sharing your stories here Malfoyish and Liebling :ily:

Whoa! Way to go, Malfoyish! :thumb: for impressing the people at the ranch! :) My family used to go to this horseback riding club in Ingacio, CA (Near Point Reyes Station) (remmy, Java?)
One summer...I was about 10, I think....when my Mum finally mustered up enough courage to try riding a horse, by that time, I had been at that club 3 years (and continued until I was 15) and quite experienced in riding and so forth. My mum got onto Tim, a coppery coloured quarter horse and for some reason, he bucked and poor Mum fell off and Tim ran off to a short distance away. He was being ornery that day and Mum swore off riding horses from that day on! (she was OK anyway)

All my horseback riding experiences have been very good -- only a few were a bit scary, but nothing serious happened. At that riding club, my sister and I were the only ones allowed to ride by ourselves without any supervision (we were 9 and 10 years old, respectively). I even rode TK (my favourite horse - a cross breed of quarter and thoroughbred) bareback and without a proper bridle! I'd just use the halter and the rope to guide her around. Same with my sister on NorthWind (highly energised appaloosa).
That riding club caters to the handicapped (more of those wheelchair bound people and intellectually disabled as well).

Eeps...forgot to add the worse summer vacation I've ever had -- it was when I had turned 16 and was at a rebellious stage at the time when my family decided to go to Los Angeles and Anaheim for our summer vacation. Went to Disneyland, mini-golfing, 6 Flags Magic Mountain, Knotts Berry Farm, etc...I didn't really enjoy that vacation because I was struggling with issues with my relationship I had with my Mum. I kept on sort of ruining the vacation for my father, mother and sister by smart mouthing at Mum and being mean and so forth. :(

Ahhh, LOL but that story is in the family archives, I tell you...it's a classic...my sister, to this day, glares whenever we mention it. Ah, she'll get over it. ;)

I am not getting into details, but my worst summer vacations ALWAYS involve being with the same person, no names mentioned. One time, she left me for another guy, and 2nd time, she used me to get back with the other guy. I got suckered twice.
