What freedoms did we used to have in the U.S.A that we don't have now?

Ahh, Jolie - I remember when I was a kid livin' in Fresno, Calif...there were no fences around on the front yard. We ( siblings ) used to run across the neighbors' front yards back and forth, just playin'. The neighbors don't mind it, never complaint about it. In 1985, I was 25 years old at that time and decided to visit my old house where my parents used to live - to my amazement, there are some fences on each neighbor's front yard. They do not want children or any pet to play on their front yard and even, they have their own bars on their windows as well. I remember there was no bars when I was a kid at that time. So much changes alot lately. :-o

I remember the feelin' when I visited there... gee, my feelin' was like " it's not the same anymore ". There's no trust nowdays. That trust is gone. It makes difficult to make friends. No more carefree in a sense. More control nowdays and less freedom.

Indeed, The "feel" of roaming around closely to home is not as what it seems to be like in the old days. We still do have the freedom to go to neighbor's houses or friends house that are nearby but however, with the increase of the crimes, fear, security, so and on - That alone has violated a lot of our confidence and senses into being able to look at other people for a chance to help each other, being able to inter react with others, to go to a place where we all can feel safe.

Unfortunately but it is true, We are living in a time where fear is taking control of us. I'm not saying everybody are living in a fear but in a sense, we are, sort of.

I have heard the same thing. My rural area, i have seen many dead dogs because of sheep herd. One night there was mass killing of sheep for some reason. Figured out and went after all dogs in the area. So many dogs died that day. I have seen few dead bodies and how they carried them away.

Now I dont live in rural, I dont hear about dogs being killed over sheep or cows. But its true it does happen.

I live in a coastal/rural area and have some experience with this.

First of all, there are many dogs that people abandoned on rural farms. The dogs that I have seen are unleashed, no collars and can be viewed as a threat to person/property. There is nothing worse seeing a pit bull run up to you and one wondering if it is a friendly dog or not. I had several close calls. Unfortunately the dogs are killed. Just don't assume that a farmer/rural/coastal person will take your dog in, chances are high that we won't due to having our own personal pets plus raising animals is an expense.

If one is going to surrender an animal--do it humanely. There are shelters.

The other thing I've noticed that no one has mentioned is that part of rural/coastal living is that sometimes dogs become contributing members of the food chain. There are wolves/coyotes/ black bears where I live and I've seen the bigger predators in action against a dog.

Should I intervened to save the dog's life? H*** no! I am not getting in the middle of a coyote/wolf/black bear fight with a dog/cat! (It's brutal!)

Sorry folks, if one can't leash their pets on the farm/rural/coastal areas--they may be the next meal for a bigger predator. And they are out there.

I'm not, greatly, concerned about leashed pets as I am about children not leashed.

Seriously, any pet that draws blood (or "has a taste of blood") needs to be put down. That's not only a law, it's common sense.

Freedom to put dogs to sleep? We've lost the right to let pets murder humans?

That's right.

Gators get the small ones here.

Smart move!

Sadly, many end up as road kill, too. :(

that's why my public shelter has a small gated area with a little dog house outside its facility for any stranger to SAFELY abandon the dog there. many people rather dump dogs on street than surrender dogs to shelters to avoid troublesome paperwork and possibly fee. I have heard of a horror story from a fellow shelter in upstate NY that the asshole tied the leash to the front gate of private shelter in freezing winter (it's a fenced private property and the gate was locked during night). poor dog barely survived through the whole freezing night until the volunteer came in the morning. :mad2:

Our freedom of right to bear arms is being slowly removed. I fear if we lose this right, we will slip into communism or socialist regime at large. We need rights to bear arms so we can defend our own home at least. If everyone knew everyone had a gun in their home, they will reconsider breaking in. But if remove the right, everyone will know there no weapon in each house, and will consider breaking in.

If you want true freedom on gun, move to Kennesaw GA. In order to live in that town, you are required to own a gun to live in that town as its part of town ordinance.

It no wonder this town has the LOWEST crime rate in the metro area.

I'll be the one with the bestest lawn ever done seen by any person! Wait! Wait a minute: nobody there like me? *sigh* Ya'll have a good time now, ya'heah?

Yeah, if you mow my lawn, I will reload your ammo. Bartering is alive and well!!!!

:hmm: sorry buddy. I'll have to turn it down. I think it's gun owner thing or something... I don't trust even my own gun if it's not loaded or handled by me.

Gun Safety is a serious business :mad2: lol

I hate how we can't punish our kids (non-abusive way) without getting in trouble with child protection services.

aaahhh.... if that's the case.... then.... :dance2: I was considering buying it but.. it was a too much hassle :aw:
With the price of ammo going up, that might be a good deal from Tousi.

I take care of two yards now; one more is no big deal. Maybe I'll volunteer to barter with Tousi for ammo myself. :P

I remember when my kids were young & I had spanked my kid she was so pissed she told me she was going to turn me into the CPS folks (yes they learned this in school) and I told her go ahead call I could use a break anyway :laugh2:

I think she thought she was going to scare me with that crap
sorry but my opinion is you dont help me raise my kids, physically or monitarily then you have no right in telling me how to raise my kids and yes that includes spanking them if needed.

The problem is we have to damn much government -
