Don't you realize that TV has been and still is a good source of media in teaching people what can happen in certain situations? Live or "created to show as close as possible". Say we are watching "Deep Impact". This is a movie made for entertainment, However, we can get a good look at what could possibly happen should an asteroid or comet strikes our planet? That's why Jiro makes excellent points here. One can only try to be as prepared as possible. Our government has a responsiblity to have the infrastructure and commodities we need in place BUT there are times that the gov't cannot help every single person.......hence preparedness is the key word here. We have the freedom to live as we like, but not if other people or entities like a communist government interferes with our freedom.
Of course TV is a useful media when it is portraying fact, not fiction. The news is based on fact. Entertainment is a figment of someone's imagination. Don't you realize that? Shall we all prepare Y2K again? That bit of fiction had numerous holes in it, and had people scurrying around like squirrels and acting like idiots. One freedom I still have is to disregard that which is absurd.
