What freedoms did we used to have in the U.S.A that we don't have now?

Yeah, so unfortunately! It sucks.

Just think what it's like in next 15 years... quite hard for us to forecast that. Only we probably can say less and less freedom. lol

Agreed. And according tothe McCain-Palin campaign, they are all in favor of passsing those restrictions that will severely infringe on American's freedoms.

Pretty much, every time a law is passed is further erosion of our freedom.

ironic thing is... every time a law is passed... we get more rights to equality. For ie - discrimination law, disability law, etc.

You just answered my question.

not really.

You haven't.

yes, I do have...

And since you haven't asked for accommodations, perhaps you are unaware of the restrictions placed on the rights of the disabled through the current Supreme Court's interpretation of the ADA.

everything function fine with ADA to meet my needs. *rawr*

Good for you. I hope that continues. I wouldn't suggest looking for a new job with the Supreme Court's most recent interpretations of the law, however. And you did answer my question.

So, How does segregation apply to the freedom that this country once had or hadn't?

The question is: "What freedoms did we used to have in the U.S.A. that we don't have now?"

We'd used to have the "freedom" or the "right" to segregation. We don't now.

I'll sue you! I'll see you in court with finest hottie interpreter! Ooo! You will see! *show fist*

The area that I see where we are losing our freedom the most is in healthcare.

Jillio has pointed it out as well as I did.

Most of you focused on security, etc. We have lost some freedoms in that particular area due terrorist attacks but nonetheless your freedom of confidentiality in healthcare is virtually gone.

People know about your health status, if you have insurance or not, etc.

Agreed. But this is a real life situation, and not a fictional account of something that is the creation of someone's imagination.

Those real life are reminder that we should be prepared every single day... Hurricane is a point out of what people's mind works after destruction.

If I was in hurricane path, I will arm up first because I know they will fight each other for surrival and looting proessions. Its not pretty place to be when it happens. People are crazy because they are not prepared for a situation such as Hurricane. Its show how much a character that people are not independent on their own.

Its all in mental thinking of situation. Jericho or Hurricane or not... its up to you to decide if you are prepared for next destruction from weather or war. Either way... are people prepared?

I'm always prepared.

I even have a place that is safe from everything, even the future WATERWORLD!

unfortunately no. the only way to make them be prepared is to reintroduce conscription law

I just looked up the conscription law... I have heard about those. Its true if everyone serve for 1-2 years in Military, they will be better off surviving anything that other countries throw at us.

This become a law is like ice's chance in hell.

I know this whole idea of conscription makes people angry, nervous, etc. But hey - if they spend 4 years at college... surely they can spend 1 year at National Guard training. They don't even need to live at barrack or whatsoever. It'll be the lax version of previous conscription law. It's still better than nothing. They will learn mostly about the inner working of everything relating to disaster - teamwork, organization, preparation, emergency procedures (CPR/etc.), firearms, etc. Best of all.... they will learn how to maintain their body and health - PT! MMMM GOOD!

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman's speech to graduating recruits -
Today, you people are no longer maggots. Today, you are Marines. You're part of a brotherhood. From now on until the day you die, wherever you are, every Marine is your brother. Most of you will go to Vietnam. Some of you will not come back. But always remember this: Marines die. That's what were here for. But the Marine Corp lives forever. And that means YOU live forever.

Full Metal Jacket Marching Song
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: I don't know but I been told...
Marines: I don't know but I been told...
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Eskimo pussy is mighty cold.
Marines: Eskimo pussy is mighty cold.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: MMM, good...
Marines: MMM, good...
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Tastes good...
Marines: Tastes Good...
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Feels Good.
Marines: Feels good.

This song always crack me up to no end :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:
(sorry to some who gets offended by it)

Good concept... people are afraid because they want to be 100% control of what happening around them. As instant gratification of play around. Self-center.

I am now raising a child, so I am past that phrase where Boot camp is not possible for me to go through. But if I was not married and not a father, i will consider go through the process. It will help us to really sober up.

Don't you realize that TV has been and still is a good source of media in teaching people what can happen in certain situations? Live or "created to show as close as possible". Say we are watching "Deep Impact". This is a movie made for entertainment, However, we can get a good look at what could possibly happen should an asteroid or comet strikes our planet? That's why Jiro makes excellent points here. One can only try to be as prepared as possible. Our government has a responsiblity to have the infrastructure and commodities we need in place BUT there are times that the gov't cannot help every single person.......hence preparedness is the key word here. My .02

We have the freedom to live as we like, but not if other people or entities like a communist government interferes with our freedom.

Preparing yourself for the reality of a natural disaster that will occur is quite different from preparing oneself for a disaster that is a fictional portrayal that has never occurred in the past, nor is it probable. I fully agree that people should prepare themselves for an impending disaster that is absolutely going to occur, or one that is likely to occur. I just don't thinkt hat preparing oneself for doomsday based on a fictional television program meant for entertainment purposes only is logical or healthy.
