What do you think if there was a toolbar made for AllDeaf members?

If it was made, would you use it??

*no ad/spyware in this deal.

I actually thought about this around the time when Google's toolbar first came out. If AllDeaf was to have one, how would it be beneficial to our members? My initial thought was something like displaying the latest threads/posts, et al.

:dunno:

Button ideas:

User CP, FAQ, Members List, Calendar, New Posts, Search AD, Quick Links, and Log In/Out

eh I dunno...I kinda liked this design we are using now...

but if you think that would be such an improvement, then go ahead...I QUIT!

lol kidding...we can give this a try, if you want

Yeah it is a long shot but it is worth a try.

Hey—there’s an IDEA! The winner of the next contest (if it ever gets off the ground) gets to be "Administrator for a Day". For 24 hours, that person gets to do whatever the hell he or she wants. They can zap anybody’s posts, ban anybody they want, post hard-core porn in the food and beverage forum, whatever their heart desires. What would you do if you were "Administrator for a Day"? Mess with everybody’s avatars? Set everybody’s post count back to zero? Piss everybody off by bringing back the reputation system? The possibilities are limitless… :D

Okay, if we put those in this so-called toolbar... then what do we do with the exact same links that's already in AllDeaf? It's like double of everything. If Alex were to remove it so that it would be in the toolbar, then what if members don't want the toolbar... how do they get the links?

if there is toolbar for alldeaf.com - it gonna be another mess on Internet Explorer.

:werd: I've got my Internet Explorer set up exactly the way I want it. There's no need to duplicate what we already have in AllDeaf. Google and Yahoo already have all the options.

The more I think about it, maybe it’s not such a hot idea after all. Everything you mentioned (Search, User CP, etc.) is just 3 mouse clicks away anyway. And every time I try a new toolbar I always wind up getting rid of it a week later—I like my browser window as big as possible. If I remember my VB 6.0 correctly (it’s been awhile), there’s a way to add a button to the IE toolbar. A single button which pulls up new posts would be convenient. I would definitely use that.

I agree with illustrator, why waste have other bar on ie and would make the ie window smaller.

You don't need VB for that. You can simply add the URL as a Link on your IE.

I’m not sure what you mean. I was referring to adding a button to the IE toolbar, not adding a link to the New Posts URL in the Favorites drop down menu. IE doesn’t seem to have a built in capability to do this. As far as I know, this requires writing code which modifies the Windows registry to load the button, and code which dictates the button’s click event procedure. I found a freeware program called AddaButton 3.1 which will do it for you. I’ve tried it and it works, and runs fine in XP. It comes with some dorky default icons, but if somebody could make some custom alldeaf *.ico files, we could use those instead.

It's very simple. Click on "New Posts" then save it to favorite places. You can copy the exact URL:

http://www.alldeaf.com/search.php?do=getnew

And... add it as a link. You can also create a shortcut on the desktop and refer it to that URL as well. That way, when you click on it... it will go straight to the new posts.
