Why do most Deaf people don't like to hear the truth? Do they prefer to be deaf to the Truth?

Hmm? What's the 'truth' were you speaking of?

And hearies (or hearing people) have the same problem with truth, I can easily point out many examples to backup my statement. So deaf or hearie, there is no difference between them in this 'truth' issue.

IMHO, I feel it is a gross generalisation to say that most Deaf people do not like to hear the truth. I am Deaf and I prefer to be told the truth to my face whether it hurts my feelings or not. I don't like to be pacified, I'd rather have the blunt honesty told to my face rather than behind my back. I don't pussyfoot around the truth, granted, people may not like this but it's best to tell the truth instead of "flowering the vocabulary" as a good friend tells me.

Magatsu is quite correct at this so assume that tiptoeing around the truth lies only within the Deaf Community is a statement I disagree with.

I believe in the quote "agree to disagree" and I do wish people, and this applies to Deaf and hearing, would do this as well.

I also don't think this is exclusive of the deaf. I am hearing, and I see a lot of people, hearing and deaf alike, who have a hard time dealing with honesty.

I have to agree with Cookie Monster. I am someone who can deal with the truth, and would rather a person be honest with me about things rather than resort to playing games with me. I despise people who indulge in head games. Especially, when it serves no useful purpose other than to hurt someone.

When it comes to telling the truth, I believe one can do so without being hurtful. I believe in being tactful with the truth. I don't believe in cutting out someone's heart in the name of "honesty". What does that solve? That's just as hurtful as game playing is.

I can think up of several situations where this original question is applicable. I think it is a matter of point of view or perspective. For example, if person #1 is talking about something as if he/she is thrilled about it, although he/she does actually realise that it will not be an easy thing to go through. Then the other friend (#2) replies in a frank matter saying "we shall see." It just seems like a party damper, whereas to that #1, it might be a challenge that she/he thrives on. #1 might perceive the attitude of #2 as lack of support or being glad for others.

Other situation may be that some people may think that we do not know any better and try to intrude into our lives by telling us things. When I was in high school, I wanted to study linguistics or cognitive psychology, however the adults in high school thought "it was in my best interests" not to pursue these careers and to select something more praticial. So, I went into architecture, only to regret it and now I am going back to my true self and doing what I would be happy with, even though my parents or these adults think I could be pig-headed about it. They think I don't know the real world, and that I am ignorant of the hard path that awaits me after graduation. I keep telling them that I am more than aware of it and that I am ready to face that challenge. Their comments, I perceive as lack of support although I know they really do support me. I chose not to fall into the trap of going through 25 or 30 years of shitty job, looking forward to retirement. I chose to find a job for myself that I will love for the rest of my life, AND NOT LOOK FORWARD to retirement. It is not about the truth, but different POVs that people don't get at all.

I don't know why there are some deaf people do not want to hear the truth. But, When I know the truth myself, and if someone wants to lie or twisted the truth, It will backfire someday, the truth will come out eventually, and bite that dishonest person in the butt. :thumb:

Erm...not all deaf are deaf to truth. I'm a very honest person and have turned many off with my straightforwardness and pure honesty. I believe that life is damn too short to beat around the bushes, so to speak.

Unfortunately I've experienced many Hearing folks being dishonest, etc. Needless to say, Deaf folks has lied to my face. It boils down to each individual, not whether she/he is hearing or deaf.

Honesty sets one free.

I have heard this statement all my life, in fact I believe in, If you tell the truth It'll shall set you free, And it does. ;)

i'm not afraid of the truth and i tell it like it is. i have nothing to hide i have always been a open book unlike for poeple who tries to twist everything i have all my doucuments to proof them too if anyone wants it please don't hestiate to pm me i ll be more than glad to mail them all to you and to see the facts and not the fiction.

Not to rip off Pontius Pilate's famous line... but nonetheless!

What is truth, truthmatters?

Most deaf people dislike to hear the Truth because they reject Jesus Christ. Praise Him because Jesus Christ is the Truth.

Not always true, Jo.

I ve met so many so called Christians claming that they are Christians and have accepted Jesus Christ, yet continue to lie. Yet I ve met many people who are not Christians yet have pure honest souls.

Religion has no relations to whether a person is truly honest or not. Period.

By the way, I am a Christian and do believe that Jesus is the Truth but then again, Truth is a such broad term.

Note:I am not really sure what Truthmatters is referring to when asking us why Deaf people reject Truth.

HAHAHAHAHA. That's truly funny and baloney ever I hear around here! Many of them would accept Jesus as their savior but they don't want anyone to shove the Bible & beliefs down in their throats. That's a hard fact which certain Christians refuse to acknowledge.

Well said, I'm a Christian too. I don't have the reputation of being a liar at all, even though I've been accused of misleading people in the past. Though these accusations were made by intelligent serial bullies that I dealt quite often.

I can come on very strong once in a while causing people to feel uncomfortable and insulted. But I don't intend to do that, I am simply telling the truth from my heart. The truth itself is quite broad like you said. Everybody has their version of the truth, and some will go to extreme measures to make sure that they are right and that we are wrong.

A crazy world we are living in.

Again, Askjo out does himself in his myopia. Let's examine his latest contribution:

He must think a bald assertion is true by default. But it remains to be seen whether he can prove it.

I agreed with Meg, that truth does set you free. I completely disagree that deafies being 100% liars! There is ABSOLUTELY no difference between deaf and hearies. Liars does not discriminates!!! World's famous con artist, known As Frank W. Abagnale Jr. (Catch me if you can) himself is hearing! Stole 4 million dollars though forged check. He lied to alot people! Have you know any deafies that is much liar than Frank W. Abagnale Jr.?

To some people regardless of its disablity, race, and other bullshits that it is alot easier to live in lie. On other hand, those people who lives in complete honest ALWAYS gets the last laugh.

In addition to this topic, many deafies think deafies gossips more than hearing. The truth is their theory is DEAD WRONG!!! Hearing DOES gossip BIG TIME! The only difference is that for hearies they tend to gossip within their community while deafies anything happens in New York city, deafies in Los Angeles will know... sigh
