VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican will now allow gay men into the priesthood if they can show they have been celibate for at least three years, leading Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported on Friday.

The Church financial state must be in serious trouble if the Pope is now allowing gay men into the priesthood (no women Lesbian yet? Sarcasm!). Note that I have nothing against gays or anyone for that matter.

oh geez...how more obvious and ridiculous this new statement made by the Pope can be? New jurisdictions are needed to keep the wealth flowing to the Vatican's banks in Switzerland. And to fit their agenda, new pages on the big manipulative book were added (some eliminated) to fit a growing society.

You see God never came down and wrote no books (including the bible) men did. :madfawk:

I think all Catholic priests are required to be celibate anyway (hence the scandal that many priests have molested children even tho it is the cardinal sin-- TO THINK AND DO THE SEX!)

After all, what do you expect from Catholicism?

They said it is okay to be homosexual ast long you don't practice homosexuality. Hm.
It's fair after all-- there are lot of Catholics in this country that don't practice Catholicism at all. :)

Hmm... if this happens, they'll eventually allow gay marriages in America!

Then it will break down the America's foundation.

I don't see anything wrong with Pope's new rule, He seems like he is trying to be fair to everyone. (both homosexual and heterosexual) Pope knows that God forgives people of all kinds of sin, including the sin of homosexuality. That's makes him a good Pope.

The Pope is only a man, and whatever "rules" he ordains apply only to members of the Catholic religion. He cannot change God's Word just to fit political correctness, modern trends, or financial convenience. In fact, the Pope cannot change God's Word for any reason!

I am so happy that God's Word is never changing.

Correct! Lunz don't confused yourself what Pope is trying to do. It has nothing to do with the bible, He only doing it for the Catholic religion. :thumb:

It's not just for the Catholic religion, it's for the world. It may start with the Catholic religion, but it will eventually spread out and affect other religions and way of life.

Here's another good example: Years ago, we have always assumed that Jesus was single and never married. Someone found proof that Jesus had a wife, Mary Magdalene. The Pope reviewed the material and declared Mary Magdalene a prostitute. Of course, that's for the Catholic belief... but everyone else followed it anyway.

How do they prove it that they were celibate for at least three years?????!!!

Being a Catholic, Im shocked to read about this.

The Church is shooting itself in its foot. They should allow women to have more rights within the Church first before doing this! Why do gay rights come in before women rights? Not that I am against gay rights, but I want to see Church focus on women rights first! I go to Episcopal churches now and see women leading services.

That's very unlikely. The Catholic church is dominated by males. If you look at all religions in the world, what do most of them have in common? Men. Yep, their gods are pressumed to be males. They refer to their gods as "he". They visualize their idols as males. There are very few religions who have female gods. The most common female gods are the ones in Roman and Greek mythology.

We have gay priests for long time. Nothing new and I dunno why anyone want to blame CC here. I assume people believe gay priests molested children and they needed to be removed? Another false fear coming from population believing those child molestors are gay.

If your not Catholic then your should not discuss this here. Keep own opinions to yourself.

"We" who? It was not just an assumption. Jesus was single, and He never married. It has nothing to do with the Catholics or Pope. The fact that Jesus was single and celibate was established long before the Catholic church was established. There is no "proof" that Jesus and Mary M. were married because it never happened.

The Catholic church has made up a lot of things over the years (such as purgatory and limbo, the immaculate conception of Mary, etc.) but those things were never accepted by true believers. I don't mean Protestants; I mean believers who never were members of the Catholic church to begin with.

CC does not believe Jesus was married neither.

How do u know CC make these up? Many of them were removed from bible alike purgatory and limbo long time ago.

Purgatory and limbo were never in the Bible to begin with.

"The Pope reviewed the material and declared Mary Magdalene a prostitute." HUH??? Mary Magdalene has been declared a saint in the Catholic Church.

"Purgatory and limbo were never in the Bible to begin with."

Limbo is not official Church teaching. Jesus refers to Purgatory as a jail. See also 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 "for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, the work of each will come to light, for the Day will disclose it. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire (itself) will test the quality of each one's work. If the work stands that someone built upon the foundation, that person will receive a wage. But if someone's work is burned up, that one will suffer loss; the person will be saved, but only as through fire."

Also, you will not find the following words in Scripture: Trinity, Rapture (false teaching most Christians reject anyway), Bible.

"He cannot change God's Word just to fit political correctness, modern trends, or financial convenience. In fact, the Pope cannot change God's Word for any reason!"

And he never has.

If celebacy is required to be preisthood, then whats the point of sexual orientation? Priest should be NEITHER Gay or straight in the first place! Nothing more nor less. I think the ruling is plainly stupid! I believe it is just mind of a human being, not god's own mind! My perspective on this debate is totally absurd! I am sorry to be blunt.

I think the Vatican has some very serious problems. However, I don't think the average Catholic you'll meet in the States is like this. Many whom I have met are open-minded, levelheaded people with whom I can have a very good conversation.

On the issue of Mary Magdalene, what happened to cause people confusion is that in the medieval church, they assumed that three different women were one and the same: the woman who was nearly stoned to death, the "sinful" woman who washed Jesus' feet, and Mary Magdalene. They jumped to the erroneous conclusion that Mary Magdalene had to be a prostitute when in fact the Bible never said that.

For the Trinity one can make much more effective Scriptural arguments. I'm not going to get into it here, but I can at least say that one can have a much more fruitful debate on the matter. The same with the matter of the Rapture--which I disagree with, but it's all in how one interprets Revelation. Which is not an easy book to understand, for anybody, least of all myself.

Rapture theology is discredited throughout Scripture.
