Tell us something about your town

...and best of all, good golfing there.
Since you mentioned golf, I was wondering if you've been to Myrtle Beach or Kiawah, too?

my hometown, Portland, Maine.. is the biggest city in maine, Home of The Tate House, Longsfellow House, Old Victiorian Manison, Portland Sea Dogs Stadium, And Portland High School (my alumni mater) is one of the oldest high schools in the US. Portland used to be the captial of Maine, but it was changed to Augusta because the governer decided they wanted a more central location for the captial.

beautiful coastlines, Casco Bay Bridge, used to have the Million Dollar Bridge, which was destroyed to make room for the casco bay bridge. That sucks, IMO!

We also have Back bay cove, which on a foggy day, is gorgeous and you can see the birds that fly around there. Beautiful.

I could give more info, but I'm going purely on memory here.

so.. where you should move? :)

Dunno yet :) Still thinking about it...

That's true. Texas wants to be uhh.."number one public schools" or "bestest public schools" in United States of America. I don't know why. But you graduated from high school, so, don't worry about being live in Texas. lol

lol of course I don't care about the schools anymore because I graduated, but I care about the children, I don't want the adults to make children to feel like overcontroled...

yes I have, and Hilton Head. If I lived there and didn't have to worry about money, I'd golf every day of the rest of my natural life there.

I hail from a tiny, unknown hometown of about 250 inhabitants on coastal meadowlands in New Jersey where my paternal family have lived for many years (since 1700s). The main industry at my village is shipbuilding, agriculture and fishing. Nowadays, a lot of people work for one of the two State Prisons in a neighbouring town. This prison lies on the huge expanses of land which was owned by my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.

Four years ago, I moved to Utah and currently live in a suburb southwest of Salt Lake City. I love the mountains here, but do not appreciate the inversion layers in the winter, or the recent layers of smoke from all the bushfires here in Utah. I love hiking in the mountains here. The recent Deaflympics was a great fun here as I volunteered full time for it. I only wish that SLC wasn't too far from the East, because it makes flying to Europe (or to Asia) expensive.

Charleston ranks as 4th best North American city
For the second consecutive year, Travel + Leisure magazine ranked Charleston the fourth best city in the United States and Canada.

The Holy City jumped up two spots last year and held onto that accolade for the 2009 World's Best Awards. New York, San Francisco and Quebec City topped Charleston this year.

Three local properties also took spots on the magazine's Top 100 Hotels in the Continental U.S. and Canada. Planters Inn ranked eighth, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort came in at No. 16 and Charleston Place took the No. 22 spot.

"We've known for quite a while that Charleston is a special place with world-class amenities and attractions," said Helen Hill, executive director of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The fact that the sophisticated readers of Travel + Leisure also recognize this is an added bonus."

Travel + Leisure has a circulation of about 1 million.

There's nothing interesting about the town i live in. But the nearest city to me is Manchester where Manchester United is based. My hometown is near a football stadium. I don't know if it is known or not.

You can always find something to do ... especially by the strip ... the night life is pretty cool if you ask me :)

:giggle: Las Vegas!!

I live in Victoria, BC, which has a lot of people coming in and out. I like interacting with people of different cultures and I like how open-space the area is. I got sick of the rows of buildings that Edmonton had and just moved to a green and small city. Also because I am considered as a deaf-blind, transportation is a major issue for me. I like being able to walk to most of the major service areas in less than 3 hours. In Edmonton, it can take up to two hours to go from northside to southside in a car that I hitched from a friend.

I like being by the water too, since I can go boating and not be discriminated against by not being permitted a license since you don't need to have an eye exam. I like to be able to go places ulitising whatever means I can come across and not have to rely on other people or public transit if I can. The fact that I am close to the water is the reason why I chose Victoria over Vancouver.

Also, Vic has a vibrant music scene. The only time I ever felt truly equal is at punk shows and ska gigs when no one could understand each others, and it is more about the vibration from the floor than the actual lyrics or petty instruments, like piano, that go into the frequency that I can't hear. Hope that makes sense.

Actually, due to the high volume of international tourists coming through the city, I feel more equal here than anywhere I have lived in Canada. Weird.

I live in a small town called Cicero, Indiana

I'll let the music video say it all, pretty much like his small town of Seymour, Indiana

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eDkAG3R0h8&fmt=]YouTube - John Mellencamp - Small Town[/ame]

Lyrics:

Well I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Prob'ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities

All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity

Educated in a small town
Taught to fear Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another born romantic that's me

But I've seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll and brought her to this small town
Now she's small town just like me

No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look who's in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and that's good enough for me

Well I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And that's prob'ly where they'll bury me

Hey I know about Manchester united's football team. U ever go to a game?

Houston's hotter than Hell right now. Check back in the winter, when we'll be celebrating Christmas in our shorts.

My city has a landfill that look like small mountain and it smell like HELL ! It a real drag as it is really pretty little seaport city ! The whole down town was
done over years ago and our high school is the oldest school in the country.
As I was told. George Washington use the building that is now our public library.

no, I don't like my town. It's boring here and the only thing that's good around here is the food is cheap and plentiful and there are plenty of useful stores nearby. When my friends ask me where I'd like to go to hang out, I can't really think of anything. I wish I can reside in another area.

The city i live in is located approximately 2 hours north of the capital city of the country i live in. Palmerston North in the North Island of New Zealand. It is called PN for short the N refers to North which is named because there is another Palmerston, in the South Island. Just for convenience to avoid the muddle. Muddling up where the mails goes is an obvious reason among many.

This city is actually a big town, with population of approximately 100,000 including a large university campus residing just over the Manawatu River.

Its very flat, good for biking around, has some hills but not much at all. It gets windy if not Very dangerously windy, just mostly cold and wet in winter, very rarely we get sleets (snow flakes) almost never get snowed (but bloody cold enough, but i think since it is approximately 100metre above sea level may be the main reason sleets never accumulate enough to be snow.
It was once known as 'Rose City' now this is changed to be 'recognised as "Knowledge City" this is part of the movement to attempt put NZ on the world market for university study.
In the middle of this city there is a park, known as the "Square" it has a duck pond on one quarlet, a flat green being used occassionally for an outdoor public entertainment venue, another two 'quarters' is picnic, resting area and war memorials statues.
It can get pretty boring here, as it is a 'big place' for many 'small place" minded people with 'small town mentality' too many pubs and cafes were aplenty, many of those closed down since the recession or struggle to continue.
It is very much a city acting as a hub locating in the centre of a vast farming regions which spans much of the lower quarter of the North Island of New Zealand.

I guess a place is only as interesting as you make it, its not a bad place, but not terribly exciting either. I like it for now due to its economical sense in being a student, until then its fine, and i have a feeling I will want to venture elsewhere as since we all only allowed to live once, I am going explore, so why not.

Where I live is approximately 2 hours from the State Capital, and about an hour and a half from the western state border. The town is nestled between two National Forests (Read: Trailheads galore!) The Ozark National Forest is to our North, and the Ouachita National Forest is to our South.

My hometown made it into the Reader's Digest for having the weirdest team mascot, we seldom make the news, but when we do it is usually for something bad. However our schools were recognized for being the most diversified and having solid FFA programs as well as a top-notch Drama and Theatre program for a school of our size.

My math teacher made national news in 1998 when Van Denton and Ruiz were finally executed for killing two of his co-workers, he was handcuffed to his dead co-worker, stuffed in a trunk, shot in the head and chest and left for dead, but miraculously survived the ordeal. He passed away back in February after a 3 year battle with lung cancer.

Believe me mate it is known. If I ever get my rump over the big pond in my life time, one of the places I want to see is Old Trafford and watch Man U play.

GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!

I actually meant that I don't know if my town's football team is known which is not Manchester, that is in the next town. My town is also known for Britain's best bread as the production company for it is in my town
