Skyscrapers in other countries

Uh...No, but it was world's tallest skyscraper in 1930's. Which it affected Hitler jealous. lol

Not really. Empire State Building was world's tallest building for fourty years until World Trade Center completes and took the title. It lasted for one year when Sears Tower got built and stole the title and keep it for over twenty years.

Yeah, that would be 100,000 staff.

And very funny, Texan Guy. ;)

Read my post again, I said over 50,000 workers in both towers. This new complex could hold up to 75,000 to 100,000 workers when it completes.

Well, then Empire State Building stole the title once again

Oh, my bad, didn't read it properly! >_<

Only for New York City not the world. Many skyscrapers are already taller than Empire State Building.

Yeah, sorry, I meant for NYC but do you know any buildings in other states not to mention Washington D.C and what about Seattle? I see that there is plenty of tall ones that is close to have the title?

Washington D.C. is not allowed to build any building that is more than 13 stories (I think) because they wants to keep the views of Washington Momount and Capitol Building.

Seattle doesn't have skyscraper that tall compared to another supertalls. Seattle only have one skyscraper that is almost 1,000 feet tall. Seattle has no plan to build new tallest yet.

Is it according to the FAA building code, yes? And it has effected to my hometown here too as we don't have any skyscrapers here, like washington D.C we are the same.

Why's that?

FAA wasn't number one reason why Washington D.C. got height limition. It was US government decision to protect the view. In my opinion, its lame.

Why's that?

Back in the 1980s, Seattle had big high rise boom that popped up out of nowhere. At that time, many Seattle residents were very angry that was completely out of control so they forced City of Seattle councils to put the height limition on to control the growth. After that, skyscraper construction slowed down dramatically. Very few skyscrapers got built in the 90s and early 2000s. Seattle Mayor Nickel wants to raise the height limition to encourage more skyscrapers to get built in downtown Seattle area and he wants to protect the rural areas from being developed by suburban communities. The City of Seattle councils finally approved the proposed height limition raises just two years ago. Guess what? It attracted so many developers to come to Seattle and build more and more skyscrapers! It is getting out of control right now. I don't mind! :) Same issue for Bellevue. There was a talk about buildng new Seattle tallest a while ago but didn't happen. Maybe one day developer will want to build it.

It would be a lame excuse, but what sort of view is there? mountains? BUt there is other reasons at the least, to protect the limitations.

Whoa, the 'out of control' has returned once again, but this time, did anyone get pissed off? But IMO, it seems that every city is in a challenge in purposing of the tallest skyscraper titles. ;)

Nothing. Washington DC doesn't really have mountains. Only views they wanted to protect... Capitol Buliding and Washington Monount. That's it.

Some people complains about it but City of Seattle councils ignored them and encouraging developers to build more and more skyscrapers.

1. Really? It must be the president who ordered them I guess. But leaving them like it, sounds fine, as it has attracted some tourists ;)

2. Let me guess, these people who complained will have to get used to it, and skyscrapers can attract more people, why complain? I wouldn't! ;)

Some people don't like the changes. Some people thinks skyscrapers are stupid. Some people are plain stupid.

I'm sure, there's mountains in some part of Maryland or even in VA, if you can drive and touch here.

Good point, but mate, I have not have thought of anything... let me seeeee....The empire building in New York? What is the accurate name of that?

Cool, my favorite is the Shanghai World Finance Center that you saw earlier in the thread. My other favorites is 2 union square, US bank Centre, Washington mutual tower, Columbia Center, Space Needle and some more. It seems most of them are in Seattle. :giggle:

Hehe! My all the time favorite building is Two Union Square in Seattle, Washington. In my opinion, it is over two decades old and still looking very beautiful and new all the time! :)
