Saints Row IV banned in Australia

I'm saying about some gamers behave like high school kids that have no respect to anyone, especially women.

Well, what would you say about this?

I and a female friend went up to the bar to obtain drinks. We were buying drinks for a group of coworkers, and this includes a drink for my friend's brother, an editor at a major video games news outlet.

As we were waiting, a man at the bar started mocking me, saying my glasses were cute but I am not, and my friend laid into him. I, an idiot, repeatedly apologized for her "behavior." Soon enough we were flanked by two men, one of whom admonished my friend for "being insecure."

These two men, I soon learned, are developers at a noted AAA studio. I advised them to "google me," and I left to return to our group. My friend's older brother, an editor at a major games news website, wanted to talk to them (or beat them up). I teased him: "We don't need you to white-knight us." Then he was upset, and I promised I was kidding.

The two men, noticing my friend and I knew other people at the party, started following us around. At one point they sent a female coworker over to bum a smoke off me.

"Women, huh?" one of the two asked my friend's older brother, who is, again, an editor at a major site. The editor remarked he didn't catch the dev's meaning, so the dev continued, something about "if you can make a woman feel bad about herself you can sleep with her, but it just isn't working tonight."

Well, what would you say about this?

We have plenty of immature adults in real life.

I had been approached to many people who disrespected me, so there is nothing for me to do, except for move on or tell their behavior is inappropriate.

So, I suppose that female gamers should suck it up and get over because it's just part of real life, right?

EDIT: Well, if you don't see something happens to female gamers at all, I guess I'll shut up then...

Oh wow, that's not what I means.

You have deal with plenty of rude people in real life - I don't say about it is ok to do it. *SMH*

What does "looks good" for a video game mean?

Just curious about what makes certain games more popular than others.

On a visual level, it must might be graphics. However, most gamers are more into the type of game play whether it be first person shooter or real time strategy. And, some games are even a mixture. In addition, some people just follow a franchise because they have played the preceding episodes of the series.

To be honest, sometimes you have to dig deep into a game to get into it. Yes, it might look cool, but they don't all hold your interest.

I remember playing Colossal Cave(Adventure) which was all text based and it was just awesome.

Oh wow, after bitter battle about oral language, I agree with you above.

@Reba: What makes a game look fun or appealing?

Having a lot of interesting things to do. Having a variety of locations to explore. Have appealing or intriguing characters. Nice graphics and sound effects and music help.

Examples from the Saint's Row series as per the above:
-you can totally customize your character's appearance including gender, body and facial features, clothing, and even the way they walk or behave.
-you can collect a huge variety of vehicles and customize their performance and appearance, effectively building a fleet of dream cars.
-the city is huge and varied, with lots of different locations to explore including parks, business and industrial areas, suburban streets.
-the game uses very crude, outrageous humour.
-you are given free reign to do almost anything you like: commit crimes, go for a drive or walk, explore the city, follow the story
-there are lot of little jobs and tasks to do as well as the story, which can earn you money to spend on more vehicles and weapons and outfits
-you can invite a friend to play in your city via the internet, and go through the story together or just mess around and cause trouble. Race street sweepers! See who can throw passersby the furthest!

The appeal of a game like Saint's Row is basically like having a huge Hot Wheels playset that comes to life. You might want to make up a story for yourself, see how fast you can make your car go or how far you can jump a motorcycle, how long you can evade capture by the police.

Generally you can see evidence of these appealing features in the screenshots and descriptions shown on game news sites.

Now, it is all clear up - this game is banned because of alien anal probe and illegal drugs (alien narcotics), however I remember about alien anal probe in South Park shows.

I don't recall any games include real world rape or sex assault - I never seen after played many mature games during teenager and adult era. In case, if it is included so ESRB will give AO (Adult Only) that effectively banned to run the game on all consoles - Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft, also Valve/Steam doesn't allow AO games on their marketplace and clients. There are many major retail don't allow to sell AO games either because AO is entirely about porn, nudity and sexual related violence.

Yes, I agree with you.

Saints Row is very friendly to male and female, also you can play male or female as main character, unlike GTA V will contain male characters only.

Some of my girl gamers from Steam. They love gore, blood, sex games because, they are emo girls and gothic girls. shrug...

You know what's funny? Oppose on reality death and support the virtual death as enjoyable. That's very conflict feel.

...I'm more concerned with movie and TV shows that contain sexual assault, including rape. Banshee, the TV show from Cinemax contain sickest rape with nasty assault in real picture.
In that case, I would think that interactive video games would be more troublesome to you. If a person is watching a movie or TV program, he's passively involved. If a person is playing a video game, he's actively involved. In a game, he's not watching something that he can't do anything about; he becomes a participant in the activity. That's a lot different.

Even though it's fantasy, it's a fantasy in which the gamer participates, not one that he just views. That's the difference.

Thank you. That's what I wanted to know. It gives me a better understanding. :)

I forgot to make additional comment.

If my future kid blame on video game for his behavior so it is great opportunity for me to take his game console away and possibility banned him from play any violent games, however Mario Kart will be allowed. :)
Why wait until your kid displays bad behavior? By then it might be too late because the damage is done.

In my view, the video game isn't solely blame for behavior problem because there are many things that influence on behavior problem.
Of course it's not the sole reason for behavior problems but it can reenforce those problems and make those problems seem acceptable.

Saints Row has fantasic/cartoonish graphic to make look totally fake.
Really? I thought gamers preferred realistic graphics and shunned fake-looking ones.

In video game, you are followed by story or plot to beat or kill someone so you cannot avoid it.
Very troubling if a player feels that bad behavior (such as beating or killing) can't be avoided. The player is actively involved in the story but has no control over his behavior? That is most troubling. :(

Interesting.

I can see how FPS games make a player feel like part of the action.

It isn't too late - some of boys' behaviors are improving after take game console away as loss of privilege.

You can have behavior problem if you play Everyone rated games too.

That's not true in some cases.

Simple - don't play video game if you don't want to kill.

Good point.

I'm the opposite. I believe killing in real life might be necessary (self defense, war) but I get no pleasure at all in watching it happen on TV or in movies, much less playing death as a game.

Killing might be necessary at times but it should always be regarded as something serious and ugly. It is not enjoyable (to normal people), and it is not a game.
