Real "Sybil" was a multiple personality fraud

Overdrive.com is the largest supplier of general e-books, and EBSCO Host (ebscohost.com) has a huge selection of academic books, textbooks, abstracts, databases, etc. You need a library card from someplace to check out books from them.

Yes to use EBSCO data base you have to access it via the ATU library.

Perhaps when I re-enroll, I can to go the bookstore and inquire if they have any electronic versions of their books that can be purchased and downloaded through their store via a school code on a site. I hated lugging around a 10 lb world lit book and a 6 lb algebra book, and throw in a 4 lb Spanish book, and a 2 lb Writer's Harbrace. Now that's a stack to lug around for a day, especially if they are scheduled to where I really don't have time to run to my vehicle to exchange books, then throw in all of my notebooks and other class materials I needed.

Boo.

I wish I could have downloaded all the books onto a tablet device with a search and bookmark feature. I could just carry the tablet device, my notebooks and my class materials. All that together might weigh 10-15 lbs at most.

Course Smart (Sponsored Listings) rents etextbooks. Amazon has a kindle text book rental for ebooks, as well. Rental is quite a bit cheaper than purchase, especially when you try to sell your books back and only get pennies on the dollar.

I think you are talking about the research data base. You need academic or professional credentials to access it and to get articles for free. Most data bases will only provide abstracts without professional or academic ID.

Just because you can get into the data base doesn't mean that you can access the available materials.

I also download stuff from project Gutenberg (Project Gutenberg - free ebooks). Mostly classics. But occasionally, it's also interesting to read the older "scientific" stuff to get an idea of people's thinking in other era's.

Yes, ATU pays an annual subscription to allow unlimited access to their data bases for research. When I was in Uni, it could be accessed only from the ATU library computers and you had to use your ATU student to log in and get access and print them off for educational uses only. I spent many many hours in that library poring over the data bases for information pertaining to a paper I was writing or researching as part of a group class project. I would usually go to the 3rd floor where there were fewer people and fewer distractions.

Far different than what the movies and such portray it to be. You might want to read First Person Plural by Cameron West, PhD or A Fractured Mind by Robert Oxnam. These are both pretty typical cases of DID. But I warn you, as interesting as they are, they are nothing like the fictionalized cases you see in the movies. Robert Oxnam is internationally recognized and has accompanied people like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and George HW Bush and Barbara on trips to Asia as an advisor. He is a specialist on Asia and was president of the Asia society for more than a decade. Needless to say, no one ever suspected that he had DID, and he was a very functional individual. This is usually the case with people who have DID.

Another very interesting case of DID is The Minds of Billy Milligan. His case is very atypical in many aspects, very typical in others. Because of the severity of his problems, he was not functional in the way that most people with DID are.

Now there's something to munch on regrading DID. I will have to look up those cases that you cited.

If anyone is interested in actual cases of Dissociative Identity Disorder, I will be happy to recommend several books of actual, confirmed cases. It really is an interesting disorder.

No thanks, I would actually like to learn more about what Reba thinks than have a thread hijacked by you to only make it something about you.

Our local library is very small and carries more fiction than non-fiction. You can't conduct any real research beyond the elementary level. I tried that once, found nothing serious. I doubt they would have these.

So does mine. I think I may have to order those books from Amazon. If I lived in a place like Charlotteville, I would have an easier time there. The University of Virgina is in Charlotteville. It's the same size as Lynchburg but much better educated.

Did you expect someone in a profession like jillio to remain silent in a thread like this one? If so, you're naive. I have the feeling there are some on this forum who would like to discredit her profession.

I like that site, as well. Have downloaded several classics that I have re-read. Probably would never have read them again were it not for the Gutenberg site.

Yeah, Steiny. We know how you try to find any post I have made as a way to act out your obsessive grudge. You probably should see someone about that, but we are also aware that you have an obsessive hate for psychologists, psychiatrists, and all mental health professionals. That's okay. We understand you are often not in control of your thoughts and feelings. You have also made it very clear that you don't have much of an inclination to become informed and educated regarding any topic.

Usually those that could benefit greatly from my profession.:P Their issues are generally pretty obvious to all.

There are those that benefitted from my services right here on this forum. In fact, one of them that that received services pro bono via email from me, at their request, is one the dissenters.
