question about nightmare..

Wow. You are making a lot of leeway and you are determined to heal! Good luck with writing the letters. It's intense but at the end it's totally worth it, as you know already from writing the other letter. If you need any online support I'm here for you.

<hugs>

thanks, nika! it was very difficult to write the letter (since i shed alot of tears), but once it was written, it was if a giant weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

I am glad for you! I did that and it just p*ssed me off at them more.

You are a very strong person.

i was extremely angry too while writing the letter, but found that to be therapeutic. i was able to release alot of the hurt, guilt and anger i have been feeling towards this particular person for many, many years.

I applaud you!

thanks, typeingtornado!

i think the second letter i write won't be too difficult, but the third will be *extremely* challenging because my life was threatened. i know i'll probably experience some flashbacks while writing it, but perhaps i can bring my braillenote along to my tdoc appointment and write the letter there in an environment where i feel safe.

No problem. What you are doing is amazing. I left you a visitor message.

I have a question for you all... is it possible to recover from ptsd? my counselor said i had ptsd and borderline personality (i understood only very little of what that meant but knew it is not good thing lol) but ever since i left my ex i felt like i have returned to my old self. no trigger of yet.

do i declare myself as recovered or is it just temparory thing? since i just moved to new state i am hesistant on getting counselor especially now that seem like nothing triggers me anymore. i havent gotten anxiety attacks or panic attacks for quite long time now.

now after reading what you guys were talking about... i only can relate to what i remembered in past and kinda felt like im an outsider here cuz i do not experience any of those anymore. i still wonder if i should still be on guard for it or not. to be honest i do not know my triggers anymore cuz my ex WAS my trigger along with many others.

SpiceHD, some people recover from PTSD and some don't. It depends on the the number of traumas, their duration, if you have support from friends, etc. Just because your PTSD symptoms subside doesn't always mean your PTSD is gone, although it may. Depends if you have Acute or Chronic PTSD. I know that whenever I am stressed out, my PTSD symptoms flare up. And when life is going pretty well, lots of times they'll subside. I might even go a few months where I think it's really gone, only to find out the next year that it's far from. This doesn't mean your PTSD symptoms definitely will come back, but I would just be open to the possibility, especially during stressful times.

If you don't feel like you need a counselor, don't get one. And if you start to have symptoms again, you can always find another counselor.

Good luck with everything, SpiceHD.

nika is correct. this is what my therapist told me as well. he also told me that it isn't always necessary for those with acute ptsd to seek therapy -- much of this is dependent upon how well you are coping with your symptoms and triggers.

as for myself, i've decided that i may hold off for awhile on dealing with my ptsd after tomorrow's appointment. i need to get my rapid cycling under control and know how well my bipolar meds are working before i can address my ptsd. once i've been stabilized for about a month or so, then i can start to tackle my ptsd symptoms. we'll see. then again, if i feel like i made progress tomorrow by talking about the letter i wrote, perhaps i'll take things extremely slow with my therapist so i don't have to worry about mood swings being caused by the things we discuss.

if anyone is interested, i will let you know how tomorrow's appointment goes. wish me luck.

Thats scary. This doesnt necessarily pertain to spice, but some people think they're fine and they don't need therapy of any sort. Advising someone to judge that themselves is probably not good advice.

Some disorders that have anosognosia (believing one is well and fine when they are clearly NOT!) as a symptom includes:

bipolar disorder, eating disorders, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, and many more.

Please be careful about advising anyone for or against therapy. Alot of times, someone simply isn't able to be clear minded enough to judge whether they need help or not. Many times, people seek treatment only when someone else steps in and intiates it for that person.

:gpost:

i couldn't agree more.

when i was experiencing my first manic/psychotic episode in 2006, i was in denial that anything was wrong. my sister had to call 911 so i could be evaluated by a psychiatrist. as it turned out, i was hospitalized for over a month and only sought therapy after a year of being diagnosed with bipolar. i'm glad i eventually decided to seek regular therapy, but wish this had been recommended for me by the hospital. therapy has enabled me to accept my illness and most recently, is helping me cope with my diagnosis of ptsd.

If you feel you need it, you should seek it. I don't know your situation enough to advise you directly, but I can tell you that with certain mental illnesses, therapy is a must.

Borderline personalitiy disorder is a diagnosis that requires therapeutic intervention. Usually, people with the disorder need the help of a trained person to help them manage their symptoms. If you feel you need support, please seek it. It can only help you in the long run.

i'd like to echo what ocean said.

if a person is dealing with a diagnosis of BPD (borderline personality disorder), PTSD or bipolar for that matter, it is essential that they receive therapy.

i can tell you from personal experience that receiving therapy to help me deal with my bipolar was one of the best decisions i've ever made.
