Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if any Ohioans (or anyone else) had ASL signs for Ohio's three major cities:

"Columbus," "Cleveland," and "Cincinnati."

I once saw a sign for "Columbus" that is a "C" moved from left-to-right (like the movement for the signs for "Where?" or "Restroom"). I saw someone else use that sign for "Cincinnati", so I thought I'd see if anyone has any better information here on AllDeaf.

Also, if anyone has a sign for "Ohio," that would be great, too. As far as I know, it's a fingerspelled "O-H," but I'm not sure.

Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Ohio. Cool. :D

Thanks so much (in advance). I appreciate any advice/help people have to offer.

Thanks :ty:,
Sam

I don't believe there is an official sign for Ohio.

You just spell it out, OHIO or OH. :)

I'm learning cities/states right now in my ASL Interpreter's class. My teacher says that Columbus in Ohio is just like you said, "C" side to side
<----
---->

She also said that Ohio is spelled full. Anyone else confirm this? I'll try asking her about Cinci and Cleveland.

Sara1981 already confirmed it.

Although I think I have seen OH. But, I am in Iowa.

I've seen Ohio signed (here down South) like this:

2 hands, sign the O and going round and round, then sign the H, going up, then back to the O, both hands going round and round.

THa's a lot of work. We really just use the postal codes for every state here.

Use finger spelling for "OHIO" and "Cinn"

Cleveland - "C" sign left to right on top of chest
Columbus - "C" sign shaking

Just don't ask anyone from Michigan.

Buckeyes will understand. :giggle:

Columbus: shake "C" back and forth
Ohio: shake "O" back and forth or spell OHIO
Akron: same as "rubber" ("X" rubbed down on cheek)
Cleveland: "C" starting from left shoulder and moving to right shoulder
Cincinnati: "C-I-N-C-I" (in Columbus)
Toledo: "T" moved right and down, similar to Texas (done with an "X")
Dayton: "D" shaken back and forth

(Columbus resident for the past 12 years...)
