New Oklahoma driver's licenses
Oklahoma is going hi-tech with its new digital driver's license system.

Tuesday, Governor Brad Henry became the first Oklahoman to be issued the state's new license. Each license will have your photograph and signature, along with a bar code and digital fingerprint.

Governor Henry and Public Safety Commissioner, Bob Ricks say the new technology will nearly wipe out the chances for forgeries. “There are some who have talked about big brother. It really has nothing to do with that concept.”

Public Safety Commissioner Bob Ricks, “it became apparent more people were coming to Oklahoma to illegal driver's licenses, be it illegal aliens or the criminal element.”

The new driver's license technology should be delivered to tag agencies across Oklahoma within the next three months.

You do not have to get one of the new licenses until your current license expires.

:eek: make it harder to have fake ID.. Sure look Cool license.. wish we minnesotans have those kind of design.

oh well.. minn driver's licenses is boring!... make something more cool!

EDIT: after a close look at the new driver license.. i notice the small icon shows "hearing loss" with a picture of an ear and cross... REMOVE THAT DANG!

Yeah... why have those icons or warnings that the bearer of the ID is Deaf/HoH? I understand if in case of emergency, but I think it's just somewhat discriminatory.
 
hmm I think it would be better to remove that Deaf ear stash thingy icon, but it would been better if they type the word "deaf" on it.
 
I like to have deaf icon on my driver license because i can speak very well.. most of times anywhere needs id.. dont believe me that i am deaf.. eh..
:) whats more.. if you are in accident or passed out by anything (drunk, health problem) EMT tried to wake you or talk you.. but unresponsive, they thought you are in coma or cant talk from injury.. so they will check your ID and see deaf icon.. so they know.. :)
It happened me few times when i was out.. they thought i had something in my throat or coma..

You got a point there...still, perhaps a different icon indicating deafness or hearing loss would be better than the ear with slash across it. A bit of a discrimination note there, so -- I reckon it'd be best if they did put down a different type -- a non-discriminationary icon. :smash:

What does the deaf icon looks like? Cuz I don't have that on my driver License.. All I have is like a code matched the number in the back .. which says I need to have 2 Mirrors while driving a car. Thats about all I have for a deaf code.

It doesn't have to be for an emergency. What if it was 3 am and you got pulled over. At 3 am, most cops are going to be a bit jumpy since there's no one around. If you start acting deaf on him, he's probably gonna get all jumpy and something could happen! :crazy:

Here in Missouri, we have "J88" on our licenses which means that we're deaf. That's it.

If you feel prefer add Deaf Ear Logo means .. r u Deaf proof that which is not discrimation.. None of that. Worth try you can ask Driver License Office and ask them can put LOGO that r u Deaf. Easier for Everyones likely eg: COPS, EMERGENCY and others no matter what if in case r u in accident or cop trying to point their gun to you.. As far I've known that cops loved snooped into your pocket or purse and to checking ID.. whoa r u Deaf.. Cop will stop and try their best service to talk you prompty than MEANING on you..

Just my opition as far for you ideal..
Looks like logo.. but it's canada in ontario,Canada. I wish I really want that ear logo on my DL, and ID etc etc.. easier for them to recoglized that I'm DEAF.. than sorry busted wrong person.. U know.. what I mean?

Don't worry about WORDS.. Just look at Ear Logo.. Is that worth for you likely.. Do something ideas about Ear Logo. Enforcement make sure teach them understand what mean ear logo stand for DEAF. simple.

I prefer it doesn't show that i'm deaf :P

I'm glad Minn doesn't have any code on drivers licenses that show's the person's deaf.

I agree with you there MsGigilz,...

For Example : If I was in a home or an office being held by a gunman....I Would want the police to check in their computer system to id who I am and when they do see the deaf icon on it they are aware that I'm deaf and find another way how to get across of me.....or the police will let the other officers be aware that there is a 'deaf person' in there and not to kill the wrong person!....

There are alot of reason why we should have those deaf icons on our driver id not only to save our lives but to make others aware of who we are and how to be able to commuicate with us.... :mrgreen:

I'd have to disagree with you. It's important for others to know that you're deaf. What if you were in a car talking to another deaf person. The cops don't see anything to identify that you're deaf, they could take your hand movement as a kind of aggressive gesture towards making a physical move or attack... which puts them on a physical defense.

Then it is their problem because they misjudge (just like taht thread where cops tried to fine a deaf woman for using cell phone when she is actually just adjusting her frigging ear aid)

That is why the police force need to learn about those kind of scenarios. In San Diego, many police are required to take seminars about how to deal wtih deaf/blind/disability etc and they do offer a course where they can learn signs regardingw tih apperances etc so they can ask the questions themselves than getting the answers third-handed (and thus always are misinformed because everybody has a different usage of words than the first person would like to say)

Yes, they could. However, if we were to do that with deafness... then they would have to do it with other people. They would have to do that for glasses. Licenses have glasses warning too. If person crashes and the cop sees the person without glasses and the other person being a kid, the cop might arrest the kid. What if it was really the person without the glasses fault? Well, the cop didn't know cuz it wasn't on the license. Glasses is a handicap as well as deafness.
 
That license is old news in Arizona. Utah just started doing those new types of licenses around 2002. If the system doesn't use the fingerprint system, then they will use the signature system. I had to sign in my name on a tablet and it was recorded into my license.

When I came in to get my license renewed and because my old license had a bar across the ear sticker inside the lamination, they were going to put in "Hearing Impaired" on the back of my new license. I used a firm voice, "You better change that to 'Deaf', please!" The person at the counter got confused. They were going to be stubborn with the label "Hearing Impaired" and I got upset and asked them to make my point, "Do you call those African-Americans the ~N~ word?? No?? Then it's the SAME thing as calling Deaf people (held up both my hands and made quote signs) ~Hearing Impaired~!!" The person jumped up a little and quickly asked the lady in the next window how to change the license and they edited my information in a snap. They took my picture and gave me the temporary license as the permanent one was being made and sent in the mail. Now I know 2 other Deaf people in the State of Utah have "Deaf" on the back of their licenses! The rest of the Deaf Utah people with new licenses have "Hearing Impaired".. They are pissed that the 3 of us have "Deaf" and they don't.
 
Another quick note: I think the label "Deaf" is enabling when "hearing impaired" is disabling. I think it's just somewhat discriminatory to go with "hearing impaired".

:fruit: Yeah, Deaf258 told me about it, so I did it at the DMV last month asking them to change it to "Deaf" and at first they were relucant to do it. Then I said my deaf friend has "deaf" written on it, not H.I. so they were like "Oh ok" and changed it for me. In case you haven't seen my licence, its at this link:

Actually, saying deaf is more discriminatory since it's considered offensive through the eyes of the government. There have been cases when people were sued because they used the word "deaf" when "hearing impaired" is politically correct. It's like calling a person "short" or a "dwarf" when he or she is actually "vertically challenged". Yes, we can be sued for many things. That's why they use "hearing impaired" on licenses instead.

So, you're telling us that you refuse to listen to the cops? You're refusing to listen to other people? That's what you're sorta telling everyone else. According to the definition of "hearing impaired", you are unable to hear, your hearing doesn't function properly, your hearing is disabled. According to the definition of "deaf", you lack in sense of hearing or you are refusing to listen. Now, "deaf" has a double definition and can possibly be used against you.

People should accept the word "hearing impaired" and move on. It's a drivers license... not a use of slang or proper social wording. You can always tell people that you're deaf, but "hearing impaired" is just for their records. Not everyone knows what "deaf" means... "hearing impaired" is more recognizable.
