What do you think of walmart starting banking? is that monopolying since it's gonna hurt mom and pop's banks into business crash.

I think if Wally World does enter banking, it will force its banking competitiors to change drastically and radically especially when it comes to this section of the article in order to compete with wallyworld's proposed banking unit:

Mortgage lenders who surprise their borrowers with last-minute junk fees.

Banks that nickel and dime their small account holders to death.

Auto lenders who add discriminatory surcharges on loans to black and Hispanic buyers.

Credit card companies that use every excuse to jack up rates.

Check cashers and payday lenders that levy usurious charges on their customers.

Besides Wally World wouldnt be able to monopolize almost every thing it can lay its fingers on due to US anti-monopoly laws. I dont think it would be a monopoly, but just a big and nasty shock treatment to the other banks in order to make them either improve their services or get crushed under the wallyworld steamroller.

What "Mom and Pop" banks? That is a thing of the past already. Almost all of them have been bought up by huge banking conglomerates. Regional wide banks, even though they keep their local names, are the norm now. Check your local banks and see who owns them.

Yeah, SCUBA—stop complaining. This is your big chance. You can plan an inside heist (nobody will suspect the deaf guy), and have a getaway helicopter land in the parking lot which will take you to an offshore oil drilling rig. Then you tie the money in waterproof bags around your body, jump in the water, and SCUBA dive to an awaiting submarine which will take you a Caribbean island with no extradition treaty. From there you can transfer the money into Bahamian banks, and spend the rest of your life on the beach, sipping pina coladas and watching the beach babes walk by all day. :deal:

That's true. a local bank that my mother uses was bought up by a regional conglomerate but it was allowed to retain its name.

The '90's and 2000's saw a lot of banks merging with each other to keep competitive in a cutthroat industry. Now with wallyworld setting foot on their territory, expect to see more bank mergers accelerating away.

Agreed....I can't think of one 'local' bank in our entire city. Some are regional with a dozen or so locations but I wouldn't consider them 'Mom and Pop'. This is one of those situations where I think it would be good for banking and make the current banks get their act together.

I have bank accounts with several banks, and its actually a credit union that I'm happiest with (great service, great rates...and I even earn interest on a small savings account). The other banks here, while clerks are friendly, offer very poor service.
