That's terrible to using her daughter as a pawn!! - Remind me of the film Oliver Twist's, Fagin using his boys to steal things for him!!

LAKE HARMONY, Pa. (AP) -- A judge sentenced a woman to prison for making her 6-year-old daughter steal a volunteer fire company's fundraising jar, a crime that netted the family $1.85.

Judith Weidner, 42, had told police she needed the change for gasoline, but in court she blamed a heroin addiction.

Judge David W. Addy sentenced Weidner on Monday to one to three years in prison for the January 2005 theft.

Security films show Weidner distracting a convenience store clerk while her daughter took a small fireman's boot used to collect change for a volunteer fire company effort. The boot was later found in the trash at a car wash.




"What I did to her was wrong," Weidner said. "I feel so bad about it."

Public defender Paul J. Levy said Weidner, a mother of five from Tobyhanna Township in northeastern Pennsylvania, suffers from bipolar disorder and other mental-health problems. She pleaded guilty last year to corruption of minors and conspiracy to commit theft but failed to show for a November sentencing date. She was then arrested April 29.

Weidner's attorney said her children are no longer in her custody.

"She has hit rock bottom," Levy said. "I think knowing what she did got the better of her."

*shake my head disguistly* Thats very stupid to give a child bad example... It makes children think it´s okay to steal anything.
 
Happens all the time. There’s a guy here in Simi Valley not too far from me who uses his two teenage sons to break into neighboring houses. He taught them how to do it, and sends them on assignments to burglarize homes. Not really a very smart move—half of the LAPD lives here. Someday they’ll both get shot, and the father will be to blame.
 
yeah.. my ex boyfriend's sister steal things from store .. she even taught her kids how to steal then sell them to earn money on street.. i was like appalled by that..

my niece do the same.. as she learned to steal from her mother and her brother.. she was caught eventually and fined and do community service .. but now is off probation as she passed GED .. i dont trust her as i am afraid she would steal something from my home? sighs..

my 3 nephews broke in few houses to steal stuffs .. one of my nephews was sleeping in van.. van got on fire.. and others inside house escaped when they heard sirens.. my nephew sleep in van.. but caught and was sent to prison for 2 yrs.. he didnt steal? he was just caught in wrong place and wrong time.. ouch!
 
Oh brother more bad example to the children. No wonder the society is getting worse.
 
Goes to show how drug addiction really destroys a family in the process. Hope they both will get help then eventually start to be a normal family again. She will have to go through 1 to 3 years of prison before she can see her daughter again and 1 to 3 years is a very long time, probably longer in a kid's eyes to be without a mom.

Hopefully they will be back together happy and she is clean again, then her daughter can really see the mom's side of being a real mom and she will be able to say, now that is more like it. God Bless that family somehow ..... :angel:

$1.85 stolen?? pfft...I disagree about mom going to prison from 1 to 3 years...I mean come on...It was only $1.85...it was not that expensive to fine her going to prison...The Judge should give her for probation instead of going to prison...:roll:

Yes, I agree it is so wrong for mother to teach her child like that...Her mother should've known better! The mother deserves punishment for the crime she had committed but going to prison? *scoff*

What's the difference does it make? When child molester goes to jail for short period of time then gets out to get long time probation...:ugh: Why not treat the mom the same? She needs probation instead of going to prison!

I feel bad for the children...poor thing...

Im thankfully that my parents raised me from right and wrong...When I was little girl about 7 or 8 yr old...My family and I went to people's home for dinner...I sneaked into boy's room and stole his play gun..I hid it under my jacket...When We got home...My mom was tucking me in my bed...I was feeling so *guilty*...

I told mom that I didnt want her to get mad at me if I did something bad...She said whats wrong honey?...I said, Here's the gun I stole it...I want to give it back to the boy...:giggle: I've NEVER stole anything since! ;)
