Heres another reason why stay at your parents house. Homeowners insurance is VERY HIGH AND VERY EXPENSIVE!! Allstate raised their homeowners policy by 28%!
my home owners insurance isn't that expensive i only pay $530 a year.. is that expensive?

It varies by the location.

Wow, I wish I had those parents! :jaw:

I'm living with my parents after I moved back to Chicago area after my divorce in Ohio. I just got a job and now saving up to move out soon. I guess that is a good reason for me to current living status.

Hey Ravensteve, if you want to discuss about cost of living, housing expenses, etc, why not create a new topic/thread solely for those issues as this one is about people living with parents and why or how that happens to be.

I think the cost of living and housing expenses are very relevant to the topic of living with parents. Financial reasons are very important reasons that people live with their parents. Many of the postings that I have read in this thread state that the posters are living with their parents for financial reasons.

I lived with my mother for 6 months just this past year when I came back to the States from Australia - now I'm on my own, having moved out and living with my boyfriend.
I am and will always be grateful that my mother let me stay with her until I got back on my feet.
I see nothing wrong with living with parents - in exchange, we, the kids, will have to take care of our parents when they're older and need assistance and support at home...that's karma for us - good karma, that is.

Whoa! That's too much..

Here where I live.. I only pay the house payments and insurance with GEICO, I pay $400 a month. My husband and I brought the house for $109,000 and put $25,000 down payment and we only pay $400 a month. Is that expensive or too cheap?

Does that include taxes?

I never heard of that before. You are truly blessed with very rich parents!

YES... the payment is only $346 a month, plus tax is like around $50.00 a month, that pay with other taxes included property. We only pay 1 year insurance with GEICO which is around 800.00 a year. It's not bad.

Looks good to me. :)
We pay about $1,500 per year ($125 per month) for property taxes, and $1,200 per year ($100 per month) for homeowner's insurance.

Reba is because of the democrats making it harder for you get out on your own.Too many regalations and taxes are just too high! So far residents of south dakota have grown smart all the sudden thats why the voted out tom daschile cause they got sick of his bullcrap!

CrazyRedHead and Reba,

I have some question for you over tax property. Why they charge you alot of money a yearly because I know your houses are not villa or castle?

I have relatives who live in England who paid 700 pounds ($1,274) tax property a year. She own tiny house with 2 bedroom and tiny garden. I was like wow because her house is not villa or castle.

Small house/garden cost around $50 to $150 a year tax property in Germany. I paid $250.00 for tax property a year due house/garden measure. It would be more than $250 if there're villa/castle.

That's a good question. I sure would like to know the answer myself! Taxes will increase again next year.

Our property taxes pay for our municipal (city) and county government expenses, fire and police departments, schools (including the tech college), libraries, and trash/recycling pick-up service.

The tax amount is based on the appraised value of the property, and the local millage rate.

I think it is okay to live with parents temporarily (6 months or less) while getting on your feet, but to just move in permanently seems to be rather BUMish to me. I haven't lived with my parents since I moved out when I was 18. I have gone through the death of one husband and a divorce from another and have never moved back. Of course, there are exceptions....if one were physically limited (and no, I do not view deafness as being that limiting) then it is quite acceptable to stay with parents or other family members.

You know -

In an earlier thread, whose title will remain unnamed... someone was put down for living with his parents...and I had a moment to reflect on this.

You know... I still live with my parents. And I'm in my mid-40's.

Reason?

I have been paying off bills that were incurred during my chemo treatments and recovery from cancer - the insurance did not pay the full amounts and I missed so many days from work that I did not get a full paycheck... I fell behind on my bills and eventually ended up deep in debt.

My parents were very understanding - they allowed me to move back in from my apartment and roommates from hell, and live there rent-free with the understanding that I would use at least 80% of my paycheck to pay off the bills. I have been with them for nearly 5 years, through one move, through several deaths in the families, etc., etc., and now I am nearly debt-free and looking forward to moving out in October of this year.

Just because some of the members here still live with their parents, does not mean that they may be free-loaders. There may be other reasons for this kind of situation, and no one has the right to put down anyone for that.

Always ask before you point the finger.

I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through...I made a thread about 2 months ago that I have leukemia cancer...it is slow spread...What frustrates me right now is the medicaid insurance will not pay for the medical bill at all..they claimed that I have to apply for medicare plan B!

What type of cancer do you have? It is very understandable that you had no choice and pay all these medical bills...that was very kind of your parents letting you to live with them...my parents told me recently that if I get worse later on...they welcome me to their home...so they will take care of me unless if Im not married. If I get married, I wont need to stay with them.
