Not quite...women were not allowed to work etc. My grandmother always lamented that she could never work and use her brains. She was reduced to a housewife, doing mundane chores. ..
Huh? Are we still talking about the 1950's, 60's, and 70's? Lots of women worked. Most teachers, bank tellers, secretaries, and nurses at that time were women, but also women were doctors, lawyers, authors, actresses, pro athletes, business owners, professors, and politicians. I enlisted in the Navy in 1970, and there were plenty of women in the military, including officers. Women were in the Peace Corps. Women ruled countries.

Also, since when is a woman "reduced to a housewife"? Wives and mothers are extremely important members of society and families. Their lives are "mundane" only if they let them be.

So? please do yourself favor, read in dictionary, and find what means "Average". One person died at 91 yrs old does not mean every one of us dies at 91! duh!

DHB

but it is off topic anyway.

I think 50s is better. My mom told me all the fun she had when
she was a little girl in the 50's in the South. Ice Cream was .25 cent.
And her mom cooked homemade foods from scratch.

... Most women were not encouraged to go to school unless they didnt care what people thought of them.

Back then, only jobs they could find were secretarial, teaching, nursing and factory work with low pay compared to men. Men quickly rose up in power and corporate ladder, etc.
I think you have been reading too many feminist magazines, or taking "women's studies" courses. It was not as bleak as you describe.

If women were not encouraged to go to school, how come there were so many women's colleges (very prestigious ones at that)?

Howcome we live longer than those people back then? Today, average life expectancy for us is 72 yrs old for men, and 78yrs old for women. Back then where there is no pollution, less job and those people live only up to 48 yrs old!!!!
1950's life expectancy: women 71.1, men 65.6.

Many old people don't even have a place to stay.
Did you see Florida, when those old people said
they got nowhere to go.... Their homes destroyed
by hurricane.

Who wanna live longer anyway?

Hey Miss Pee,
I make my theard here and i don't expect you to say about back 1800's..

so Don't even start the hell with it.

Please go back the topic about 50's 60's and 70's
Thank you for the DAMN cooperate

1960's, I don't know, though I noticed tons of hot rods with lots of power that went fast and were gas guzzling and rand on leaded gas. The skyscrapers were boxy and international style in many places, there were a major hippy generation in those years, too.

I don't even remember the 70's, I was only a lil toddler. I noticed that '70's had ulgy shaggy carpets, bland walls, depressing design of house. Nothing too exciting in the '70s, even the skyscrapers in the '70's mostly were ulgy looking, weird. I guess '70s were land of the ulgyiness, except the wilderness and the animals remained beautiful.

The cars in the 70's were underpowered and was a first generation of smog (emission controls) which sucked in those years. The cars coughed and ran slow in general.

I think 1980's rocks! The skyscrapers were a MUCH better design, skyscraper boom occured in many places in the west US, mostly at the coast regions. There were lot going on in the 80's, too.

I still remmy bit of 70s. My dad had sideburns...My parents used to play in a rock band, my mom would bang up this umm circle thing with cymballs on it. I don't remmy what it is called. I do remmy weird wide bell bottoms, plaid pants. They would sing, go bowling, drink, drink a lot, not drunk, I would wear asian dress (vietnam thing) with my hair all tied up in a ponytail on the top of my head. Mom would make me wear pigtails (on both sides), plaid dresses, pants or shirts.

I do remember my house, (built in 70s), we had red brick looking vinyl tiles in the kitchen and living room floor, carpet was light green then dark brown (came in 80s) along with dark colored furniture, couches was in kinda plaid... we had booger color looking sofa with oak posts attached to it. most of furniture was all oak which I guess it was so popular and cheap.

our kitchen was yellow, yellow refrigator, yellow oven range and hood, white counter had those little yellow flower looking on it along with stars on it. my aunt had red kitchen and my best friend had booger-olive green kitchen. I guess colors I have seen in kitchens were red, yellow, orange, brown, and olive green.

Early 80s was ribbons/bows barrettes...ribbons would be long enuff down to hold some beads. real real short Shorts with white stripes on it, tube socks with stripes on it, nike shoes like blue shoes with white stripes. hairstyles were wingbacks, long like facett.

late 80s.. oh boy, I do remmy, I did wear all colors of tube of socks like three at a time (later 80s). like aqua blue, green then white. it was a fad thing. Jammies shorts, wild colors, plastic/rubber braclets, would use up so much hairspray, lots of it where hair would stick up before mousee ever came. wild colors like neon colors. fold up bottom of pants like 50s rave. wear keds shoes.

90s. Was a preppy. rugby shirts, polo, jeans,.....

70's memories

I started HS in '75. VW Bettles were in EVERY parking lot. Drive-in movies were still around. Bell-bottom pants and polyester leisure suits were VERY popular, so was disco music. :barf:

A few of the guys had mustaches/beards. Shoulder-length hair wasn't unusual. I remember one guy in Honor Society had hair down to middle of his back.

I live in a trailer that still has a pea-green tub and sink in the front bathroom.

The earliest memories that I have go back to 70's. I remember coming home from school and wanting to watch cartoons. Every TV channel had men in suits sitting at long tables and talking about plumbing problem. I also remember watching GIs come off the plane and them kissing the ground before their wives. YUCK!

In middle school, two Presidents (LBJ,Truman) died in the same month so flag was at half staff for long time. I also remember hearing a story about crazy woman pulling a gun out of her bra and shooting President Ford.

What I really remember is my senior year (79). That was the year of the Three Mile Island meltdown at the nuclear plant and the takeover at the US Embassy in Iran. The hostages were released after 445 days and just minutes after Reagan was sworn in. The Attollah didn't want to mess with Ronnie. That and bad gas situation cost Carter the election.

I could probably remember other things, but I don't have my yearbooks with me and I need to get back to work. :)

I born in 1963 and saw different fashion styles between 1960 and 1980 where my mother and relatives wear.

I look up my mother wearing pencil skirt and short jacket when she picked me up from school bus in 60' time and wear light make up but heavy on her black eyes. After 60' my mother wear long leather boot to her leg with hippi clothes.

During teenage time in around 1972-75, I wear mini rock (short skirt) and slim T-shirt, also long collar blouse and long flag trouser and high shoes. I wear fashion styles that's time Elvis Presley and Scottish band (Bay Roller ?) around.

Between 1978 and 1980, I copied Farrah Fawett's hair style.

My mother told me that she prefer 1950 to 1960 times.

To me, I prefer 1960 time because it's nice atompshere. I like 1950 fashion style clothes and also 1980, too.
