I was on my way home from horse feed hays, driving in a 30 mph zone (and doing the speed limit) when all of a sudden this dog ( Fox terrier or other small size mutt) came bounding out of nowhere. I tried to swerve but I see him or her run into the side of my Dodge truck pick up and felt thump... I screamed and turned around and drove up and down the street but I couldn't find dog . I hope he's going to be okay. Why in the world, if you love your pets, wouldn't you keep them confined or on a leash???? That's what makes me so angry about this...and sad. I sure hope he's okay. ugggggghhhhhhh :(

"why is this happening to me??" vent :)

Ive had that happen except I was riding a school bus at the time. I wasnt the only one flipping, but the driver couldnt turn around, he had to keep going.

I agree that if you have pet and if you love them, you will set physical boundaries for them the same way you would do with a child.

When not home, have the dog kenneled in the crate indoors, or at least confined in an outdoor kennel. They dont have to be there 24/7, but they are there to keep your pet alive.

Sorry that had to happen to you, but not your fault. Can't chance hurting yourself badly when a dog runs out in front of you like that.

oh man i am sowwy it happened to u.. sometime i hit pet and made me cry cuz of pets are innocent..

Wow, it's not your fault...

Once, I went up to my best friend's house in very country area, I end up saw a Basset Hound laying on the road and died, NO ONE STOP for that dog! So I told my best friend to stop! Of course, I cried so hard becuase I felt that no one respect that dog. So she called the police for me(she could talk, but can't hear anything) and police showed up and pulled that dog over to the shoulder where we was, I was petting it and told it that Im sorry... And found the license on that dog, he called owner and he came here and got upset. He said that his dog was ran away, he's only maybe 10 years old? Also, it's a male... I told that owner that Im very sorry, he said that it's not my fault since he is glad that I have some respect for that dog so he took that dog with him to bury or whatever he is doing with that dog.

I hate people who isn't stop for any animals to respect.. To making sure if it's alive or moving it over the shoulder of road, call someone or whatever like that. But if in Michigan, someone catch you drive over any KIND of animal(cat, dog, bird, squirrell or any) they have a right to call the police and they will send you the ticket to fine for killing animal. Depends on how much, 500 dollars to 1,000 dollars also depend on what kind of animal... Even include if someone takes that animal to vet and they will send you the vet bill too include the ticket. Wow, I like Michigan's law because they seems like that they have respect for animals but still, weird...

Phillips, I'm sorry that you hit a dog but it's not your fault that it happened. He came out from nowhere. I'm glad you tried your best looking for that dog. My heart goes to the accident you had.

It is not your fault. It happened to me on my new car back in 1988. I hit the cat and turn around trying to find the cat and went up and down about 3 or 4 times to find the cat but no luck. I was hoping that the cat is ok. There was a dent on my new car under the bumper.

Here in AR they are pushing for animal neglect and cruelty to be considered a felony rather than a misdemeanor. We are one of the first states in a while to consider the bill.

I think alot of it came from the CC Baird case where he had a puppy mill facility and he was starving and beating the dogs and shipping their bodies off for research at major universities in the south. People would go to a flea market and sell their dogs to him for $20 bucks then he would turn around and sell a heartworm positive dog to research for $200 or more.

It really was sad.

I wish all states considered hitting a dog and leaving the scene a felony animal cruelty offense. I can see if it were accidental and you made every reasonable effort to miss the animal and in that case the owner of the animal would be fined.

I wish we had animal laws like they do in Australia, it is strict but they have fewer puppy mills and bad owners there than we do here.

I'm so sorry that you had such an awful experience. :( You did your best.

well, law say we cannot stop during driving if any animal run over because other cars would be behind us. double accident. That why we have to hit animal without stop. We must pull over and check animals.

Our traveling, We went to AZ. We were on highway. We saw duck with babies ducks were walking over during we drove. My husband cannot stop so fast because other many cars were behind by us. We had to hit them and we were so upset. No choice. If My husband stop so fast then we will have very serious car accident because we drove over 70 mph. It was not my husband's fault.

I've had it happen to me.

I've run over birds, squirrels, armadillos, etc.

Bird? Couldn't be helped. I was on a highway and a bird flew right towards me, then flew down under my car. POP!

Squirrel? I was driving on a busy street with a lot of curves and no room to swerve out of the way. I saw a couple squirrels run onto the street quickly and each ended up under each tire. POP-POP!

Armadillo? I was driving home late one night on a un-lighted road. Suddenly, I felt a huge bump. I thought it was one of those big reflectors that they put in the road for left turns in the medians. They sometimes come loose and end up elsewhere on the road (has happened a few times before). The next morning, I was driving back on that road and saw where I hit a bump... an armadillo... with its shell still intact. Eep!

Oh sad!!!! I hope the poor puppy is ok I feel bad for you too. I hope your ok to. Thankgod we live out in the country where there are no cars and if we are out on the streets we always have leashes on i wish people would take better care of there pets.

It is not your fault..it does happen...I almost hit some different animals...I did hit the coyote but was alive till the big truck hit it, probably dead.

I agreed with few others that the animals are innocent!!!

I've hit two quail before and I actually felt bad because that was two less quail I was going to get to shoot in the fall,

then again I had a dove fly right into my grill -- DOOF!! When I got out part of the wing was hung between the grille and the headlamp. oops.

i am sorry to hear that u hit the poor dog.. :( u cant help .. sigh.. i have hit an armadillo before.. i felt so bad.. it happened late at night time where i couldnt see .. :( once i was with a friend and driving.. i saw a dog running across.. i told him STOP STOP.. he didnt .. he just kept driving on.. then I heard THUMP then dog got thrown in air then landed into the ditch... i was like OH MY GOD.. i cried so hard.. i couldnt believe it.. i told him STOP STOP.. he said no.. i cried more and more.. i felt so GUILTY ever since ... but i asked God to forgive him .. and hope to take the poor dog home where he wont feel pains.. :( i cant believe he woudlnt stop.. damn it.. grrrr.. stupid friend..

usually i see a dead cat or dog.. i would pull over and pull the body off the road and look for tag..if theres one i would call and let them know that i found the body and its on side of the road.. they would come and get the body.. i have done that few times already when see a dead pet .. never an easy task to call someone.. :( but if no tag.. i would just pull the body off the road and leave it there.. hope someone will find it.. but if a house is close by i would ask is that yours?? once i did and thought it belong to that people and i asked but it was not theirs? so i just leave it on side of the road..

it sucks losing a pet.. u r right they should be responsible having it on leash or put up in fenced where its more safe.. or in house.. where u know they are safe ... but i dont like a dog being chained.. its like PRISON to them.. CHAIN is BAD.... it can cause dog to get aggressive and go ballistic.. i believe chain the dogs are abuse... period..

i love animals.. they love you unconditially no matter what.. they are like kids to me... :)

Sorry about that.. I stomped on possum WHILE the possum was already dead. My mom stomped alive Squirrel, and my brother stomped on a rabbit. It's very sad that animals don't understand about the roads..

Thank you all.....:grouphug:

This morning I was driving down the same street and check again.. None sees dog there? Soooo... ummm

:):):)
