Hello, first post here. Ok, so i recently got a new roommate (she posts here, thats how i found out about this site), and the other night she asked me a question, i guess it wasnt suposed to spark the conversation that it did... so i figured i'd use it to give me a reason to post ;-)

Ok, she said, what if the ratio of deaf to hearing people was reverced, she asked me if hearing people would have they're own language. I told her i didnt think so. My thinking was that sign language was created out of a need for the deaf to communicate with eachother/the world. My thinking tells me that if the ratios were reverced that the hearing people would likely learn sign language, and life would go on like that. She didnt agree, saying that hearing people wouldnt learn it or whatever. I'm not exactly sure why. But i think that if there was a language all hearing people and deaf people could understand, what reason would there be for the hearing to create another language if there wasnt any already.

So thats my thoughts on the subject. So say hi and tell me what you think.

to answer ur question -- hearing ppl learn signs qq they would learn if they were MOTIVATED -- but ive noticed those that do learn are usually the KODAs (kids of deaf adults), terps (novice and professional/freelancers), parents of deaf kids

But again remember that in this senario the ratio of deaf to hearing is reverced, so again, what reason would there be for the hearing not to learns sign language in that senario?

The reason for a hearing person to NOT learn ASL would be the same for a deaf person who does not want to learn english (acceptable english that makes sense.) :D Had to add from our "argument" :D

You wanted to know what most of our opinions are if in all over this world...that high percent of the people would be deaf...while low percent of people would be hearing..

Sure, it would be so awesome. Imagine a full deaf resturant and hearing people skipping the "order box with camera" at a drive thru because they don't know signs. :p
 
What a fantasy deaf world that might be! Everything we see thousands of hands flying around... That sound like we'd have our own friends... perhap this alldeaf.com might never be created at all... or perhap allhearing.com might be created! LOL... That mean hearing will be struggling fighting for their rights... *wake up from the dream* damn I'd be rich working any job I'd be able to do anything... ugh!

Omg... ok i'm not a porn star... and jamie wont let me touch her ;-) so i'm not quite sure how i'm her porn star. My job is actuly very un-interesting, so i just thought i'd throw that in there. This actuly reminded me of something, i can hear.... So i would have never thought of this without jamie.... porno's dont have subtitles, i checked ;-)
